Salute To The General
Chapter 2069

Chapter 2069

Clifford was taken aback.

However, being a person who had his mettle often put to the test, he recovered just as quickly.

He attempted to sidestep the issue by professing that they had misunderstood the situation, not realizing that Sage was only acting upon the Chief Military Governor's orders, and proceeded to offer him a seat at the table.

Sage, too, was a proud man.

He stood behind Nathan staidly. "Thank you for your hospitality, Mr. Tucker. As I am but a subordinate of the Chief Military Governor, it would only be proper that I remained on my feet next to him."

As politely as he had put it, it was obvious the man refused the offer because he had taken exception to his own treatment earlier.

Sage's declination left Clifford and the others in an awkward position.

Upon assessing the mood, Nathan's lips curled into a smile, "My man here is a bit of straight talker, Mr. Davier, so I hope that you wouldn't mind."

Even if Clifford felt slighted, he was not about to spell it out loud.

"No, not at all," he chuckled.

Nathan then casually asked, "Right. Your brother insisted on my presence here, stressing that you have a matter of great importance to discuss. I wonder what instructions you might have for mef "I wouldn't venture to think that I would be a in a position to instruct you, but there is indeed a matter in which I would like to seek your input," Clifford said with a smile.

"Please speak freely," Nathan said.

Clifford then picked up his drink. "There's no hurry. May I propose we begin with a toast?"

Clifford and Shae exchanged glances before they raised their glasses in unison. "To you, Chief Military Governor."

The man smiled subtly as he regarded the figure in the Leviathan mask.

He had long wondered who was behind it.

It was a shame that despite his best efforts, his men had not been able to uncover the Chief Military Governor's identity. Clifford's plan in leading the Davier family in a toast was an attempt to make him unmask himself.

And when he does so in order to drink, they will all be able to see how he really looked like.

Nathan inferred their sentiments from the look in their eyes as they were nervously fixed upon him.

His glass was held in his right hand.

Just as everyone thought th

Chief

Military Governor was going to unveil Rimself, Nathan lifted the fingers on his left hand and lightly tapped upon his own face.

It seemed to have activated some sort of mechanism.

The lower half of the Leviathan mask instantly vanished and exposed his jaw.

However, with just the jawline made visible, no one was able to recognize him. Clifford and the others were dumbfounded.

Never could they have expected that the mask has this sort of feature.

The corner of Nathan's lips lifted

slightly as he raised his own glass to pander to those in attendance, before he took a swig from it "Good wine."

The Davier family members exchanged looks upon the realization that their ploy had fallen flat.

Shae visibly bemoaned the missed opportunity.

On the other hand, Clifford swiftly reverted to his jovial demeanor. "My family's specialty, produced in limited quantities. I've brought it out especially for the Chief Military Governor."

"Looks like I'm in luck," Nathan replied with a smile.

Clifford motioned for Shae to top up Nathan's glass.

The woman got up to her feet and approached ostentatiously. "Allow me, Chief Military Governor," she said ardently.

None of the other young ladies in the family did not look upon Shae with envy.

However, Nathan did not reciprocate her overtures.

He did not make eye contact and merely nodded when she poured more alcohol for him.

That left her greatly disappointed.
