Salute To The General -
Chapter 2147
Chapter 2147
What Damien said made Penny uncomfortable. It was so overwhelming she did not know what to make of what she just heard.
But judging from his evasive attitude when Nathan interrogated him, Penny could more or less guess what happened.
Although the real reason why her so-called biological parents lost her was still unknown, the fact that Damien advertently left out important details when he spoke pointed to one possible explanation-Penny did not go missing by accident-the Camden family deserted her on purpose.
Camden Group was one of the ten largest international consortiums in the world.
Given its prominence, it was impossible that they were unable to track down a lost child, but still, it took them a good twenty years to finally come to Penny.
She was now Cross Group's chairman and had a worth of hundreds of millions. This could well be a reason why they came looking for her now. Penny doubted the Camden family's sincerity since Damien kept bringing up Cross Group every now and then. This itself was solid proof that the family had an ulterior motive for reaching out to her now.
Penny looked at him coldly and retreated back between Benson and Leah. "The only parents I have since young are Benson and Leah. Aside from them, I have no other parents. As for the Camden family, I'm not interested at all. I don't care if the family owns one of the most eminent companies in the world or not. I'm living my own life now, and I have no intention of changing it.
So go back and tell the family to stay away from me. Since they are the ones who deserted me back then, we should just keep things as it is and go our separate ways."
Her blatant rejection made Damien anxious and his tone turned crotchety.
"You can't do that. You're Sir
Camden's daughter, and he is your father. We value family above all else and we have an
uncompromising stance when it comes to respecting our elders. As someone who bears the family.
name how can you refuse to ne
go
back to your father and your family? You should at least show some respect. There will be consequences and punishments for members of the family who go against our family values. You're not well-versed in the ways of the upper echelons, neither are you refined in your etiquettes. I can overlook this and go easy on you as long as you agree to go back to Ospea to meet Sir Camden."
Punishments?
Penny was infuriated. Did I even acknowledge the Camdens as my family, to begin with? I don't even like them! And you want to punish me according to your own family's rules?
"I finally understood why the family
forsook me last time. The Camdens have all it takes to make unreasonable demands. After all, Camden Group is a huge
consortium. But you know what? I'm not the helpless baby y'all threw out anymore. I'm a full-grown woman and I decide my own destiny. I decide the life I want and the person I want to be with. As I said, the only parents I have are Benson and Leah, and I just want to spend the rest of my life with my parents, my husband, and my daughter. I will never go to Ospea with you.
Damien did not expect getting Penny back to the family to be this difficult.
He had always thought that she would readily take up the offer when the Camden family extended an olive branch since this was a privilege many vied for.
Yet Penny turned him down with such resolution.
His face turned sour as a smirk slowly spread across his lips. "Since Sir Camden commissioned me with this task will not let him down. You'd better cooperate when I'm talking nicely. If you refuse, I will drag you back home by hook or by Crook. By then, even your parents will be affected."
Everyone from the Smith family was appalled by Damien's impudence, but since Damien was the Camdens' butler, no one dared breathe a word in retaliation.
Penny was on the verge of lashing out at that point. She was an agreeable and gentle person in general, but Damien's behavior was just too much. "Hubby!" she raised her voice and called for Nathan, who came over immediately.
He looked at Damien apathetically and warned, "There will be unimaginable consequences if you make my wife angry. Kneel down and apologize to her. This will be your last chance to salvage the situation."
