Salute To The General
Chapter 2420

Leroy panicked. He ran over to bar Sage's path and hurriedly point out, "General Tomlinson, my brother complained to the Chief Military Governor about Nathan Cross' immoral actions, and the Chief Military Governor ordered you to punish Nathan Cross..." Before Leroy could finish speaking, Sage interrupted in a stern voice. "I think you made a mistake. It is true that General Quillen spoke to the Chief Military Governor about the issue and asked the latter to punish the culprits. It is also true that the Chief Military Governor regarded this matter as a serious issue and had ordered me to personally investigate it."

Confused, Leroy asked, "Exactly, so why are you doing all this now?"

Sage sternly replied, "You should pay attention to the details. The Chief Military Governor never ordered me to apprehend Nathan Cross. All he asked was for me to investigate the matter and punish the wrongdoers."

At that point of the story, Sage paused and pointed his finger at Matias before saying, "I have investigated the issue. Matias harassed Mr. Cross' cousin, Kylie Tonkins. The former also tried to take advantage of the situation and joined forces with his comrades to gang up against Mr. Cross to beat him up. In the end, Mr. Cross retaliated and wounded them, but those wounds do not pardon Matias for their sins. They must also face legal repercussions. That is why I am here. I will apprehend them and have the court decide the due punishment they should receive."

W-What?

Matias and the others turned eerily pale after they heard what Sage said. Their eyes shone with hopelessness.

Leroy was so surprised that he was speechless as well.

His brother had personally gone to the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor to ask the Chief Military Governor to punish Nathan.

How did things turn around? Why is the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor protecting Nathan and punishing my brother's comrades instead?

It was obvious Sage knew exactly what the problem was.

Unfortunately, Leroy was still foolish and asked the question. "General Tomlinson, is there some sort of misunderstanding here?"

Sage firmly replied, "I've investigated the matter thoroughly, and there is no mistake. If there is any error, they can talk to their lawyer about it. Boys, take them away."

Matias and the others panicked. One after another, they begged, "Mr. Leroy, save us!"

Leroy barred Sage's path once more. The former gritted his teeth before pointing out. "General Tomlinson, there is nothing I can say if you insist on taking these men away. However, Nathan Cross has undeniably hurt me. How will you settle this matter? Nathan is a soldier, so ordinary police officers can't deal with him. You, on the other hand, can't ignore it. You have to get justice for me because this is within your job scope."

Sage frowned.

That was when Janice stepped up and introduced herself. After that, she steeled herself up and told Sage the truth. "I don't think Mr. Cross is at fault here. He should not be blamed. The truth is that..." Janice spoke succinctly and gave a clear summary of what had happened earlier.

The nurses there stepped forward as well. Bravery filled them and they supported Janice's words. "She's right. Mr. Cross is simply helping us out and seeking justice on our behalf. He should not be blamed for this."

Sage turned to Leroy. The former's eyes carried no warmth. "You heard what everyone said, right? How can you blame Mr. Cross for everything that had happened? If your family hadn't been letting Matias and his friends get away with everything, they would not have become so arrogant and barbaric. You and your family should be held responsible for what they did. Besides, you are the one who told Mr. Cross to attack you, so how is he at fault? If you insist that I do something about this, then allow me to tell you that you had it coming."

Leroy was enraged to hear that. His entire body trembled, and he pointed at Sage's nose before shouting, "Are you saying I deserve this?

"Sage Tomlinson, don't assume you can do anything you want just because you work at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.

"My brother is about to become the Assistant the Chief Military Governor. In other words, he will be the second in charge there. You will be nothing but a mutt to him, and you will have to do everything he tells you to, even if his orders are as ridiculous as having you slap yourself!"

Slap!

In a fit of anger, Sage flung his arm over and slapped Leroy right across his face.

That slap was even heavier than the one Nathan had delivered earlier.

It caused Leroy to spit blood and sent a few of his teeth flying.

Infuriated, Sage roared, "First of all, your brother's promotion is not official, so he is not the Assistant Chief Military Governor yet. Secondly, it won't matter even if everything is official. I will still be serving under the Chief Military Governor, and you have no power over me. If you ever disrespect me or speak to me in that tone again, I will shoot you!"
