Salute To The General -
Chapter 2421
In the end, Leroy returned home with his face swelled up and his spirit ashamed and enraged.
Everyone in the Quillen residence saw the powerful Mr. Leroy returning in such a disheveled state. They were surprised and curious, but no one had the guts to ask him what had happened. Inside the study room.
Cayden was polishing a sword. His gaze on the sword carried so much tenderness that it was as though he were looking at his lover.
The truth was that years ago, the woman he loved had given him that sword.
Back then, the two of them were promoted to major-general, and they were both regarded as the up-and-coming stars within the army.
They were competitors but were also friends who helped each other grow to be better.
They got together a little after the two of them were promoted to major-general.
Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with a terminal illness shortly after.
The sword named Arowana was the last gift she gave him.
Cayden could still remember every word she said when she gave him the sword.
"I thought I will fight beside you for the rest of our lives, but this illness has come after me, and I will leave soon. I can't stay with you forever, so I will give you this sword. It will keep you company in my place, and I believe you will achieve greatness." Cayden caressed the sword he had with him. It was still as sharp as ever, but the woman he loved was long gone.
He was still reminiscing about his bittersweet past when the door to the study room was suddenly flung open. Leroy barged in while looking all upset.

Layden sheathed his sword immediately. In a stoic voice, he said, "Didn't I tell you to knock before you enter a room? Why are you being so rude? This is very disrespectful."
Leroy tilted his head down and whispered, "Sorry, Layden. I was wrong."
Layden shot a look at his baby brother. Then, he
asked, "You look terrible. What happened?"
Leroy angrily roared, "That Nathan Cross is at it again!"
After that, he told his brother about everything that had happened in the hospital.
He ended his story with a furious roar. "Cayden, that Sage Tomlinson never took Nathan away. Instead, he apprehended Matias and the others. He also claimed that he would punish them severely. Darn it. The Chief Military Governor definitely ordered him to go after Nathan Cross. Yet, that guy did the opposite and cuffed our men. Seriously, why is that Sage Tomlinson guy trying to mess with us?"
Cayden was surprised to learn about what had happened.
Slowly but surely, his expression became serious.
"Sage won't do something like that without the Chief Military Governor's permission."
Leroy was taken aback when he heard that. "Cayden, are you saying that the Chief Military Governor is the one who is messing with us? So, even though his promise to punish Nathan, his true plan has always been to go after our comrades. Why would he do that, though?" Cayden answered. "Because he is the Chief Military Governor, whereas I am about to be promoted and become the Assistant the Chief Military Governor.
"As of now, he holds all the power in the army, but things will change once my promotion is official. He will still be the most powerful person, but he will have to talk to me before he makes any major decisions. That means he will not have the last say. I used to think that he is an upstanding guy, but at the end of the day, he is just a petty man who doesn't want to share his power. My guess is that he's doing all this to show off his power. He is deliberately messing with me."
Leroy complained, "That the Chief Military Governor is so shameless."
Cayden harrumphed, then pointed out, "There is nothing we can do about that, though. He is still the Chief Military Governor, and he still holds the power. For now, I am just an assistant, so I will let him have his way for a few years."
Leroy nodded. "You're right. We should hold our anger in for the time being. Once you solidify your footing within the army, we will slowly turn the heat on him and eventually take him out. We will get back at him after you have replaced him and become the Chief Military Governor."
Cayden replied, "For now, let's not mess with the Chief Military Governor. Nathan Cross, on the other hand, must die. We must deal with him, and we must do so quickly."
After saying all that, Cayden instinctively shifted his gaze to a mobile phone sitting on his desk.
That mobile phone was a gift from Nathan.
Cayden had since gotten in touch with the Five-star General of Ariarica, Max. It was confirmed. The phone Nathan gave Cayden belonged to Marshall.
That meant that Nathan must suspect that
Cayden was a spy for Ariarica.
Nathan is a ticking time bomb, and I must destroy him as quickly as possible.
Leroy didn't know that his big brother was a spy for Ariarica. The former assumed that the latter simply hated Nathan because he had been going against the Quillen family.
Hence, Leroy smiled and said, "Don't worry. Your birthday is in a few days, and of the five Reclusive Families, only the Norris family can't make it to the party. The Zartman family, the Zuckerberg family, the Jimmerson family, and the Gilham family... In fact, the heads of all those families will be here. They will lead their elite soldiers over to celebrate your fiftieth birthday with you. Every single one of them has fighting experts on their payroll, and any of those experts will be able to kill Nathan."
Layden nodded. "Hmm... you are right. It's best to let the Reclusive Families deal with this issue.
Rumor has it that the head of the Norris family, Claudius, once attacked Nathan. The former agreed to only throw one punch, and Nathan managed to survive it. Claudius kept his words and stopped attacking afterward. That is the only reason Nathan is still breathing now. Nathan will not be as lucky this time."
