Salute To The General -
Chapter 2442
What?
Cayden jumped to his feet, thunderstruck at the news.
Nathan actually defeated all four patriarchs of the Reclusive Families? And he even defeated Theron of the Zuckerberg family?
Frode went on, "After defeating the four Reclusive Families, Nathan ordered them to retire on the spot and banned the members of the Reclusive Families from entering the secular world to cause trouble. Forced into submission by Nathan's dominance, all of them retreated into their ancestral homes in humiliation. Even when they left, they did not send anybody to greet us."
Layden was silent for half a second before speaking again. "It seems that I have underestimated the kid."
Nathan's combat prowess is terrifying to have defeated Theron. Furthermore, he also knows about my relationship with Ariarica.
The thought made Layden even more uneasy.
"Having just returned from abroad, I didn't intend to expose myself by personally dealing with Nathan. It appears that I have no other choice in the matter at this juncture."
As his monologue trailed off, he turned to Frode. "Tell Nathan that he has incurred my attention and ire for opposing me and incapacitating my brother. Tell him that he is free to pick a time and place to resolve the matter with me in private." Frode and Jett exchanged identical looks of shock.
There is finally going to be a duel between the old and new Gods of War!
Frode did not dare question Cayden's decision. "Understood, General Quillen. I will relay the message to Nathan at once." With another smart salute, the butler hurriedly withdrew.
"Mr. Quillen," Jett blurted as soon as they were the only ones left in the room. "Is a fight to the death with Nathan what you really want? You will soon be the Assistant Chief Military Governor, while Nathan sits idly at home. You are gaining momentum while Nathan has already lost his power. Why would you risk a duel with him with so much at stake?"
Cayden glared at Jett. I will not even deign to consider the question if somebody else had asked me this.
However, Jett was the closest thing Cayden had to a son. "From the beginning of my return, Nathan has tested me at every turn. Also, he probably knows about my relationship with the Ariarican. His very existence poses a threat to my exposure. I cannot afford even the possibility of that happening. Since it is already impossible to replace somebody willing to or capable of killing Nathan, I am forced to take matters into my own hands."
Jett was stunned, though he could not contain his curiosity. "Mr. Quillen, what do you think of your chances to beat Nathan?"
"Since Nathan has bested Theron, I'd like to think that my odds of winning are exactly half seeing as how it is a little difficult for me to defeat Theron," Layden mused.
Jett's eyes widened in disbelief. The image of his teacher as an invincible existence in the world had solidified in his mind to such an extent that he had trouble picturing Nathan's strength to even be on equal footing with his teacher.
Meanwhile, Frode was shown into the Windsor residence as he sought an audience with Nathan.
The latter was seated on the couch.
His legs were gracefully crossed before him as he puffed on a cigarette.
Colin's intimidating figure stood behind the couch.
fro de could hardly believe his eyes. This man looks more like a prince than a soldier! To think that he had actually defeated the patriarch of the Zuckerberg Family.
"Mr. Cross," he began cautiously, "General Quillen is intent on punishing you for the repeated transgressions you have committed against the Quillen family, and for injuring Mr. Leroy. He also suggested that if you wish to make preparations for your confrontation, you may pick a time and place to settle matters with him."
The corners of Nathan's lips rose slightly at the butler's message. "Very good. Go back and tell your master that I am ready to meet him in a week's time. The venue is yet to be decided. In any case, I will be sure to address his grievances with me within a week." Frode nodded. "Very well, I will convey your words to General Quillen verbatim, Mr. Cross. Good day."
