Salute To The General -
Chapter 2567
Although the citizens had gathered to give them a warm welcome, Nathan and his family did not make a public appearance.
Despite the fact that his identity as Eurasia's Chief Military Governor was already revealed to the public, Nathan had yet to show his face. After the incident of his family being held hostage, Nathan became extra careful with his privacy. He didn't wish to put them in danger again. Keeping a low profile, Nathan and the rest of his soldiers returned to the
Southern Fleet.
He then handed Zach all of the work that was required after the drill. Under the watch of Colin and the Elite Eight, Nathan and his family left the base to return home.
Along the journey, Colin brought Nathan up to speed with the latest news as he drove.
"Sir, after the Secret Service got control of Jessica, they were able to get proof of her involvement in the kidnapping. Furthermore, she has also divulged a few other pieces of information under torture. Unfortunately, they got careless.
While in captivity, Jessica found a way to commit suicide. She must have done it to prevent herself from exposing more information. Despite their best efforts, they failed to keep her alive," Collin stated solemnly.
Jessica is dead...
Nathan's brows knitted together.
On the other hand, Penny was dumbfounded by the news. I can't believe a traitorous Ariarica woman like her chose to kill herself.
For a few moments, Nathan remained silent before he spoke. "Death was the better option. Her life wouldn't be easy if she chose to live." The calmness in his tone revealed his indifference. "Since she chose to commit suicide for her country, return her corpse to Ariarica and tell them the truth behind her death. Let's see if they will be brave enough to publish it!"
"Sir, in order to get revenge on you, they even dispatched the Wasp Special Attack Unit to kidnap Mrs. Cross and Ms. Smith! Even Jessica, Ariarica's Minister of Foreign Affairs, got involved. I believe Ariarica will choose to keep Jessica's death a secret to keep things under wraps," Colin replied.
"Of course they would. They are the ones in the wrong here."
"Also, we finally got to the bottom of things. Max, Ariarica's Five-star General, was the one who personally ordered this kidnapping," Colin added.
A dark expression loomed across Nathan's face when Colin mentioned Max's name. "Max is an Ariarica militant. He's involved every time Ariarica tried to attack us. Furthermore, he contacted several other countries to create the 88 Alliance with the sole goal of going against Eurasia. So long as he remains alive, we will never know peace." Colin remained silent; he did not dare to speak another word in response. I'm not in a position to discuss this matter. I should just go along with what Chief Cross orders.
As Nathan spoke, he glanced out the window. "Sooner or later, I will settle things with Max once and for all."
It didn't take long before their car arrived at their home in Channing.
Benson and Leah had been worried out of their minds when they learned of the kidnapping of their daughter and granddaughter. Upon seeing that Penny and Queenie were all right, they were so relieved that tears of gratitude streamed down their cheeks. Similarly, Kylie heaved a heavy sigh of relief when she spotted them safe and sound.
That night, Benson and Leah cooked up a feast for them as everyone gathered around the table to enjoy the hearty meal.
"It's been a long time since we had a proper dinner like this." Nathan smiled warmly. "Since Mom and Dad cooked such delicious meals for us, we should enjoy them to our heart's content."
However, just as Nathan picked up his spoon, he was interrupted by his phone's ringtone.
The caller ID indicated that the caller was a foreign number.
Although Nathan was thrown off, he still took the call. "Hello?"
The sound of a man's hearty laughter echoed across the phone. "Haha.
Chief Cross, I must apologize for this sudden phone call. I hope I didn't interfere with your work."
The man's foreign accent caught Nathan by surprise. Astonished, he asked, "Mr. Gammon?" "That's right! Initially, I planned to reach you via the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor. But, I had a change of heart. After all, we are both friends. Besides, I'm calling you this time to talk about a personal matter so I thought it'd be better if I called your number. Chief Cross, I hope you won't take offense to my boldness."
