Salute To The General -
Chapter 2708
Terror manifested in Roman's eyes. His gaze spoke of his obvious struggle and resistance.
Regretfully, he had failed to hypnotize Nathan. It had backfired on him, so he had no control over himself at that moment. Instead, his body moved to obey Nathan. Right then, he was in the exact same situation as Colin was in earlier.
He picked up a gun from the ground and slowly lifted his hand, holding the gun to his temple.
His body and hand were trembling violently, making it clear that his subconsciousness was resisting his actions.
Alas, he still lost in the end.
Bang'.
A gunshot rang out, and blood spurted everywhere. In an instant, the leader of the assassin team collapsed to the ground.
He probably never expected to die in such a manner when he often hypnotized others and ordered them to take their own lives. How utterly ironic.
When Colin saw Roman dying at his own hands, he couldn't help sneering. "Serves you right, b*stard!"
Nathan turned and looked into the cameras of the journalists from Adrune. In a glacial voice, he asserted, "I'm not targeting every citizen of the countries within the Eight-Nation Alliance. Instead, I'm targeting the mastermind behind the terrorist attack this time and the idiots who have their sights set on Eurasia. They plotted to make an enemy out of Eurasia and destroy peace to create war. If you don't repent but insist on destroying the peace and instigating war, you'll only burn yourself. Never underestimate our determination to protect our homeland."
As his words rang out, realization showed on the faces of the journalists from Adrune.
The crowd present broke out in great applause.
Far across the ocean, Max remained sitting in front of the television, watching the live broadcast with his aides.
He stared at Nathan on the television screen. After watching the utter annihilation of the Dragon Slayer Team and hearing the man's warning, he grew so livid that he trembled all over.
Grabbing the ashtray on the table, he threw it hard at the man on the television screen.
With a crash, the television shattered.
All his aides and subordinates around him hung their heads, not daring to utter a single word.
After all, the assassination attempt had failed.
On top of that, the Eight-Nation Alliance, with Ariarica at the lead, had been humiliated before the entire world. Consequently, their reputation had taken a nosedive. Anyone could tell that Max was seething then, and no one wanted to get into the line of fire.
At that precise moment, a secretary rushed in and uttered apprehensively, "Admiral Max, President Bryon called and asked that you answer the phone immediately."
Max's expression darkened further. He hastily went to the office and picked up the phone after inhaling deeply.
No sooner had he answered the phone than a furious Bryon tore into him.
"Max, you'd better restore our country's reputation. If you can't do it, you shall be receiving your letter of dismissal!"
"President Bryon, I'll arrange for someone to respond to this matter at once and restore our country's reputation," Max assured.
"Respond? How are you planning to respond? How will you restore our country's reputation?" Bryon barked.
At that, Max answered solemnly, "I will personally clarify before the media that this matter has nothing to do with us or the Eight-Nation Alliance. We weren't the ones who sent those assassins. In fact, we even have the right to suspect that it was all an act by Nathan. He self-directed a show to establish a majestic and heroic image in the hearts of the Eurasians and boost their support for him. Not only will we deny any involvement with this matter, but we'll even condemn his action of putting on a show and affecting the reputation of Ariarica and the Eight-Nation Alliance."
Bryon was wholly stunned to hear that.
So he's going to make a false countercharge, huh? Anyhow, this sounds like a pretty good solution!
Assenting, Bryon threatened lowly, "You'd better clean up this mess. Otherwise, you'll be sorry for this."
"Understood!" Max replied.
