Salute To The General -
Chapter 2779
Everyone was in shock, and they couldn't pry their gaze away from Nathan. Their eyes also glowed in a way like they were witnessing a miracle. If Nathan wasn't a Eurasian and his opponent wasn't a duke, the citizens of Eaglcland would likely already go on their knees and worship Nathan. "Carlos, jump three times, and that'll corner his piece. Penny, take out her bishop with your knight."
As Nathan fought Szymon, he issued clear orders to Carlos and Penny. He never even looked at the boards. It proved that he knew the games so well that he didn't need to check anything.
Even though Nathan was dealing with an international expert like Westley and a prodigy like Sandy, he was as cool as a cucumber and could instruct Carlos and Penny without having to think much.
On the other hand, both Westley and Sandy had to take their time to strategize. The calm grin on them had since faded and was replaced by anxious sweat.
Nathan was fighting against three opponents. He was fighting while telling Carlos and Penny what to do. Yet, he never needed to even glance at the board. Despite all that, every single one of his moves was strategic and good.
When Westley and Sandy realized just how skilled Nathan was, they knew that they were facing the worst enemy they had ever met.
Neither dared to relax. They went all out and thought long and hard before moving their pieces.
They were both experts in their respective fields and had earned a number of international competitions.
Still, they were having a hard time against Nathan, despite giving the game everything they had.
Westley kept getting cornered and had to sacrifice his pieces to save the game. Hence, he was in more and more trouble as time passed.
Sandy wasn't having much luck in chess either.
Nathan's Queen was exposed, so all she had to do was take that out of the board. That would set the stage that would, in turn, ensure her victory. Unfortunately, every time she was about to get close to the Queen, Nathan would retaliate in the most graceful way. Things were progressing less and less favorably for Sandy. For a moment there, she was almost certain that the pieces could talk and mocked her.
If things kept progressing that way, Sandy wouldn't just be defeated. Her defeat would be certain!
At that moment, neither Westley nor Sandy were acting like experts. Both were crouching down and had practically shoved their faces to the board.
Their minds were spinning rapidly. They were strategizing and thinking about their every move. They wouldn't make a move until they thought ten steps ahead.
Many spectators on site, like Ava, didn't know how to play chess or checkers.
Since she knew nothing about checkers or chess, she didn't know if things were going well.
That prompted her to turn to Colin and asked, "Hey, do you know anything about these board games? Any idea if our boss is winning?" Colin glanced at Ava and saw how eager she was when she waited for his answer. He grinned and answered with his head held high. "I know nothing about board games."
Ava was stunned when she heard that. She rolled her eyes when she came around.
"Why did you keep your head up and speak with so much confidence if you know nothing about it? Dang, you fooled me into believing you're an expert for a minute there."
Colin smiled. "I may not know anything about board games, but I know that our president is winning." Ava and the other members of the Elite Eight were delighted when they heard that, but their glee didn't last long for suspicion replaced it soon enough.
Ava asked, "If you know nothing about board games, how do you know that our president is winning?"
Colin smiled and replied, "I may be an idiot who knows nothing about sophisticated board games, but I know how to read people.
"Take a look at the checkers expert, Westley. He is practically stuck to the board now.
"He is also sweating profusely, and the panic in his eyes is undeniable. It looks as though he wants to shrink and walk onto the board itself to look for a way out. All that suggests he is in a terrible position and is about to lose."
Ava and the others turned their attention to Westley and realized that everything Colin said was true.
Colin's smile remained just as bright when he further pointed out, "Now look at the chess expert, Sandy. She is playing with her earring to ease her tension, but she is still so jumpy that it is as if she is sitting on needles. Her graceful side has vanished, and that shows that she is in trouble. She can't replace a way out of her dilemma."
Again, everyone turned their attention to Sandy and saw the truth.
It seemed that the president truly was gaining the upper hand in both the games.
They couldn't help shifting their attention to Nathan, who was fighting against Szymon at that moment. His smile and steady moves made their eyes glow. It was as though they were idolizing the most powerful deity there was.
