Salute To The General
Chapter 3052

Nathan grasped the situation at once.

The dignified and tall foreign woman before him was Hepburn, the Holy Maiden.

He stood up and chuckled. "Is it a coincidence that you found me dining here, or is your church that powerful?"

As the Holy Maiden, countless people came forth to worship Hepburn wherever she went. Even the heads of state treated her with reverence and lived in fear of appearing inhospitable. It's good for her to visit Eurasia. I'll treat her like an ordinary tourist for a change.

The high and mighty Holy Maiden was furious that Nathan, the president of Eurasia, did her the discourtesy of refusing to see her.

However, Hepburn was no pushover.

Using the contacts of the Eurasian churches, she discovered Nathan's whereabouts after much difficulty and came to him instead.

She had vaguely sensed Nathan's dissatisfaction when he made the remark about the church's influence, so she quickly put her resentment aside.

"The foundation of our faith is in the West," she said with renewed humility. "There are only a small number of believers in Aploth. We are nothing before you, Mr. Cross."

Hepburn was aware that Nathan was the God of War with an instinct for decisive bloodlust.

She could tell that Nathan was mocking her about the church's influence to have even discovered his whereabouts and began to panic upon sensing his displeasure.

She feared Nathan's imperial rage would spill forth and cause all the bishops of the churches in Eurasia to be expelled.

As a result, she did not dare gripe at Nathan any longer.

"There must be something going on for you to insist on seeing me," Nathan surmised. "Please, speak your mind."

Hepburn was upset that Nathan did not even invite her to sit but asked her to speak while on her feet.

Nathan could not be blamed for being displeased that the Holy Maiden had inquired about his whereabouts and come looking for him uninvited. Naturally, he would not be cordial with Hepburn.

Furthermore, Nathan was the leader of a great country as Eurasia's president. There was nothing wrong with sitting and listening to foreign envoys.

If blame were to be placed, it was Hepburn's fault for being revered wherever she went. Her trip to Eurasia only to be treated normally made her feel uncomfortable.

"I dare not lie to you, Mr. Cross," Hepburn said. "I have come this time by order of the Pope. We learned that Vince, the notorious vampire duke, was killed in Eurasia. The Pope specifically ordered me to uncover the truth."

"Have you found the answers you seek?" Nathan asked.

For the first time, Hepburn's eyes showed genuine respect. "I went to the West, and I have confirmed that the vampire who died was Vince. I also learned that it was you who killed him. I, and the church I represent, thank you for your charitable act, Mr. Cross." She produced a box and brought it to him. "This is a little gift from me to you, Mr. Cross. I hope you like it."

Ava stepped forward, took the box, and opened it on the spot for inspection.

She found, upon opening the box, twenty-four silver carved bullets neatly stacked inside, and hastened to show her employer.

Nathan frowned. What is the meaning of giving bullets as a gift?

"These are not ordinary bullets, Mr. Cross," Hepburn explained. "These are special mithril bullets manufactured by our church. They have special effects when they strike vampires."

Mithril bullets! Special bullets for dealing with vampires.

Nathan could not help recalling Ava's mithril dagger. He glanced instinctively at the inconspicuous weapon on Ava's waist.

Hepburn also noticed the dagger on Ava's waist. "This lady's dagger is made of mithril, also produced by our church," she said with a smile. "It is very rare and possesses a special suppressive effect on vampires. I'm sure you have already witnessed its powers firsthand, Miss."

Ava nodded. "It comes in handy for dealing with vampires."

"These mithril bullets are also fantastic weapons against vampires," Hepburn said. "However, mithril is rare, and bullets are limited. These are all we have to offer to you, Mr. Cross."

As Nathan had recently provoked the vampires and often fought them, the gift was a useful one.

He handed the box to Colin before turning back to Hepburn. "I don't think you came all this way just to verify Vince's death," he said with a chuckle. "Now, you can tell me your true purpose for coming to Eurasia."
