Salute To The General -
Chapter 3053
Just when Hepburn was about to talk, Nathan said impassively, "Please, take a seat."
Ava placed a chair near Hepburn as soon as Nathan said that.
"Thank you," Hepburn muttered.
Then she sat down in an elegant manner.
Hepburn cleared her throat and said in a serious tone, "Mr. Cross, we have received reports saying that you've antagonized the vampires lately, and now they want you dead. Not only did you wage war against them, but you've also killed their earl, even a duke." Nathan listened to her calmly. "So?"
"As you should know, the church has a blood feud with the dark clan. For hundreds and thousands of years, we have not wavered in our effort to get rid of vampires and werewolves alike. We have a long history and experience of fighting them after all this time. The Pope is of the opinion that the church should strengthen our ties with Eurasia, especially us working together in the war against the dark clan."
Working together, huh?
Nathan was starting to have an inkling of the reason Hepburn was sent here.
The church had been fighting the vampires for eons. Despite having the upper hand all these years, the church had never truly defeated them.
The church had countless followers, and they could always cultivate new warriors to fight for them.
On the other hand, the vampires could never compete with the church in terms of numbers. That was one of the reasons that the vampires were at a disadvantage against the church.
Then again, the true elites of the vampires, especially the vampire dukes and princes who had lived for hundreds and even thousands of years, were leagues ahead of the elites of the church. Even though the church could suppress the vampires for centuries, they had been unsuccessful at eradicating them.
Could it be that the church is already at the end of its resources and they're seeking to work together with me after knowing that I've killed a few of the vampires?
Nathan's surmise was not far from the reality.
What he did not know was that it had been over a hundred years since the church had last killed a vampire ranked earl and above.
However, to the church's surprise, they had found that Eurasia's God of War, Nathan Cross, had not only killed the infamous earl of the vampires, Niels Tulin, but also a vampire duke, Vince Hopkins. Given their lack of progress in the nearest century, the news had sent shockwaves through the church, and even the Pope himself had been alerted.
Astounded after hearing the reports on Nathan's prowess, the Pope had gone silent for quite some time before he finally said, "This is unbelievable. Could he really be the chosen one?"
The church had always made it their priority and mission to exterminate the dark clan.
This year, they had gotten nowhere while Nathan had managed to kill multiple of them from the vampire clan.
The Pope was getting exasperated at their lack of progress, fearing that they might lose their reputation as the forefront of the war with the dark clan.
As such, the Pope decided to get Nathan to work together with them.
Once Nathan agreed to the collaboration, he would become the church's ally.
The church would be able to bask in the glory of Nathan's achievements and proclaim that they had been working closely together with Nathan to annihilate the vampires.
It was the perfect plan to reclaim their ground.
Regardless, it was up to Nathan to accept the offer.
Hepburn glanced at Nathan nervously, her beautiful eyes filled with hope as she anticipated his affirmative reply.
"The offer is pretty good," Nathan said with a smile. "However, I actually do have other matters to take care of. I think it is best that the church is left to exterminate the dark clan as it has been for the past centuries. I think I'd better stay out of the church's way." Nathan's intention was clear enough. He was the premier leader and the Chief Military Governor of the country.
It had never been his intention to strike the vampires. Rather, the vampires were the ones who had tried to stir trouble in the first place, and Nathan had only fought them to teach them a lesson.
He was a busy man and had to deal with a multitude of different things every single day. He would not have the time to deal with the church.
Hepburn had had a hunch that Nathan would reject the church's proposal. However, she could not help but feel dejected, especially after hearing it right out of Nathan's mouth.
Disappointed, she said, "Okay, but I do hope that we will have the chance to work together in the future."
Nathan did not deign to respond to that and merely smiled as he ordered Ava, "Please arrange to see Ms. Hepburn on her way back."
"Sure," Ava replied.
Nathan turned to Hepburn and said, "Thank you for your gift, Ms. Hepburn. Enjoy yourself in Eurasia. Everything will be on me." "Thank you, Mr. Cross," Hepburn replied absent-mindedly.
Nathan said nothing thereafter.
Shrewd as Hepburn was, she knew that it was Nathan telling her that it was time for her to leave.
She bade goodbye to Nathan and left with the bishops and bodyguards that she had brought along with her.
