Salute To The General -
Chapter 3073
Laura was still somewhat angry when she left Nathan's house.
To her, Nathan was being insolent and ungrateful.
As many dreamed of being chosen by the Curia to be the next Holy Maiden, she believed i I was something to be proud of.
She assumed Nathan was angry because he saw Hepburn being hunted down a few days ago, which gave him a bad impression of Holy Maidens.
A few of her subordinates quickly rushed forward and escorted her to the car.
Her trusty subordinate, Sergio, even opened the car door for her.
"Mr. Cross is a lot angrier than I had expected. He has already arranged for someone to contact the Pope. He probably thinks it's dangerous for his daughter to become the Holy Maiden. We need to dispel his worries as best we can. From this moment on, we will protect Queenie in secret at all times. Do not make any mistakes, or I will have your head on a silver platter," Laura said as she sat down in the back of the Maybach.
"Don't worry, Cardinal Laura. I'm a Holy Knight of the Curia, so I'm sure I can keep Queenie safe!" Sergio replied with a confident smile.
Laura nodded. "Make sure to update me immediately if anything happens."
"Got it!" Sergio replied.
Laura then left in the car while Sergio and a bunch of elite Curia members stayed behind.
They hid near the Cross residence to protect Queenie in secret.
Nathan was sitting in his study room with a gloomy look on his face when Penny came in with a bowl of dessert.
"What's wrong? Are you still angry?" she asked while glancing at him.
Nathan let out a wry chuckle as he replied, "No, I'm just unhappy with the Curia. Those guys will do anything to get what they want. This time, they're using my daughter. That is something I will not stand for."
Penny nodded in agreement. "Ava told me just now that there are mysterious individuals lurking outside our house. She says they look like Laura's men. I'm guessing they're protecting Queenie in secret," she said while setting the bowl down on his desk.
Nathan frowned. "Queenie does not require their protection. Besides, those clowns won't be able to do anything if fighters from the dark clan get wind of the Holy Maiden and come to attack Queenie."
Just a few days ago, I witnessed Hepburn being hunted down by Max, who had been turned into a vampire. Max was able to kill all of Hepburn's bodyguards with ease, so I doubt these people from the Curia are capable of protecting Queenie. Besides, I would never place my daughter's safety in the hands of others!
With that in mind, Nathan sipped on his dessert while calling out to Colin.
Colin entered the study room and asked respectfully, "How may I be of assistance, Mr. Cross?"
"The Curia has announced that Queenie is the next Holy Maiden. I'm worried that the b*stards from the dark clans will come after her. From now on, I want you to increase the number of people protecting her," Nathan ordered.
"I have instructed the Elite Eight to increase the level of protection on your family members, Mr. Cross. If that is not reassuring enough, I can have Sevan protect Ms. Smith as well," Colin replied.
Oh, that's right... I almost forgot about Sevan! He must be bored out of his mind since he hasn't been assigned any work lately!
"All right, go tell Sevan that his next task is to protect my daughter," Nathan said with a smile.
Colin nodded. "I'll take care of it right away, Mr. Cross."
Two days later, school had just ended in the afternoon when the clear weather turned gloomy all of a sudden.
In just a matter of minutes, the sky was filled with flashes of lightning and the sound of roaring thunder. It wasn't long before a torrential rain started pouring down from above.
Kylie was driving a BMW with Sevan in the passenger seat as she went to pick Queenie up from school.
After picking Queenie up in the heavy rain, the three of them headed home in the car.
However, the rain got so heavy that the roads were flooded, and some of the trees on the sidewalk had fallen over.
Eventually, the heavy thunderstorm resulted in a citywide blackout.
Visibility was reduced to a few meters due to the torrential downpour, much to Kylie's dismay.
Her forehead was drenched in sweat as driving through such horrible weather really put her skills to the test. On top of that, they would be in deep trouble if the engine died while driving through the flooded areas. Sevan's life was slowly returning to normal as he regained his memories little by little.
"It's dangerous to drive in the heavy rain with such low visibility, Ms. Tonkins. How about we pull over somewhere and wait for the rain to stop?" he asked.
