Salute To The General
Chapter 3386 Gossip

Eugene IV spoke calmly. "Although the human alliance has defeated the vampires, the remnants have fled to the mountains and forests, disappearing without a trace, but as far as I know, several vampire princes are still alive. So are half of the clan's elite members. Their strength remains intact, so they can retaliate at any moment. Moreover, despite Herod's death, I heard they have elected a new king."

Hepburn exclaimed in shock, "What? Is that true?"

Eugene IV said, "The information should be accurate."

Hepburn asked, "Who is the new king of the vampires? Was he chosen from among the surviving princes?"

Eugene IV shook his head. "I don't know. Our people aren't able to identify the new king's identity, but recently, I've heard something on the grapevine."

Hepburn questioned, "What kind of rumors?"

Eugene IV said, "After the great war, the alliance captured many bondslaves. Based on some of their confessions, Nathan had ventured into the vampire's headquarters alone back then. Posing as a warrior, he challenged Herod. His audacity stirred a huge commotion. Thousands of thunderbolts streaked across the sky. No one could interfere in the duel between him and the king. Moreover, in the end, Nathan successfully slew Herod. Naturally, he became the new king of the vampires."

Hepburn's face turned grim. She couldn't hold back her emotions and yelled, "Absurd! Such foolish remarks! The people spreading these rumors are either stupid or malicious. Mr. Cross led the alliance, personally slaying countless King-Class vampires. He even executed the Patriarch, Herod, with his own hands. He is indeed a great hero of humanity. I can still remember clearly when he stepped into Eternal Darkness beneath the Dark Canopy, resolutely marching toward his death to duel with Herod. Now that we've defeated the vampires, some scoundrels dared to harbor ulterior motives and slandered and defamed our hero. I won't let those who defame Mr. Cross get away scot-free!"

Eugene IV was actually aware of Hepburn's feelings toward Nathan. If it weren't for the fact that Nathan was already in a relationship, given Hepburn's personality, she would likely pursue him even if it meant going against the grain and courting him. Eugene IV had expected her strong reaction.

Yet, he said indifferently, "However,

met

this rumor seems to be brewing day by day. I've summoned you here today to assign you a covert mission. On the surface, you're make a friendly visit to the Curia in Eurasia, but in reality, you're there to investigate Nathan. Find out if he's part of the vampire clan and

whether he has become their new

king."

Upon hearing this, Hepburn looked at Eugene IV in shock, exclaiming, "Pope Eugene, it's one thing for those with ulterior motives to spread rumors, but for you to doubt Mr. Cross, this is too—" She wanted to say that it was too much.

However, the person in front of her was the Pope, so, ultimately, she didn't voice her thoughts, as it would have been too disrespectful.

Eugene IV knew what Hepburn

wanted to say. He didn't take it to heart, simply stating calmly, "I understand that doubting a hero like this might be a bit too much, but the Curia has always been at odds with the dark clan. Didn't you declare earlier that you have a deep-seated grudge against the vampires and can't coexist with them?"

Hepburn anxiously interjected, "But-"

Eugene IV interrupted, "I know you think investigating Nathan is absurd, especially considering the current situation where Nathan is hailed as a great hero of humanity. However, what if it isn't just a baseless rumor? Even if there's only a one percent chance of it being true, shouldn't we investigate thoroughly?"

Hepburn still wanted to argue.

Eugene IV added, "Moreover, I'm

asking you to investigate because you have a good personal

relationship with Nathan. Your

presence won't be jarring, and bet

won't be on guard. Besides, if you can prove his innocence in your investigation, won't it be good for him to restore his good name and put an end to those rumors?"

Upon hearing this, Hepburn figured his words were reasonable.

Hence, she readily agreed, “All right, I'll take on this task. I'll journey to Eurasia and prove that Mr. Cross is not a vampire, let alone their king. I won't allow anyone to slander my hero."
