Salute To The General -
Chapter 3387 The Top Four Shadow Guards
Hepburn agreed to travel to Eurasia in the name of a diplomatic visit to pry into Nathan's identity.
Eugene IV unwittingly flashed a satisfied smile. He then took out a tiny capsule and handed it to Hepburn, saying, "This capsule contains a drop of liquid, called the Tear of God. Find an opportunity to spike Nathan's food or drink with it. Had he been nothing but a normal human, drinking the Tear of God wouldn't pose him any problem."
Hepburn furrowed her brow, unable to resist asking, "What if a vampire drank it?"
That made Eugene IV look up, speaking in a calm tone. "If vampires took a sip of it, regardless of their strength, they will temporarily lose control of their internal energy, thus revealing their combat form on the spot."
He paused for a bit to ponder.
A fleeting moment later, he continued, "Therefore, you all better be careful. If Nathan's not a vampire, we all can then relax. But if he was one, he'd definitely reveal all his traits as a vampire. For instance, he might bare his fangs or even expose his combat form altogether. If that happens, you all will be in great danger."
Hepburn stashed away the Tear of God, confidently uttering, "I have no fear because Mr. Cross cannot possibly be a vampire. I'll personally verify this and put an end to those malicious rumors circulating around, clearing Mr. Cross' name."
Eugene IV, however, did not appear as confident and optimistic as Hepburn. A sigh escaped him. "I sure hope so. Should Nathan become a vampire, it'll not bode well for all humanity."
In Hepburn's opinion, Eugene IV was overthinking it.
Regardless, as a subordinate, it was not her place to comment much. She simply gave a slight nod and set off.
After Hepburn left, Eugene IV sat in his office chair, lost in deep thought. Suddenly, he voiced, "Anoud!"
A tall and slender elderly servant, clad in a white robe, appeared then and there before Eugene IV out of nowhere.
"At your service, Pope Eugene!"
Then came Eugene IV's command. "Make a trip to the headquarters of the Shadow Guards and bring me Locryn, codename Havik."
Upon hearing the names, Anoud could not help but put on a shocked mien.
The Curia was home to a plethora of elites, among which the most renowned were the War Gods of the Light, Holy Guardians, Council of Elders, cardinal experts, and the Holy Knights.
Be that as it might, what many people did not know was that the strongest fighters of the Curia were all part of the Shadow Guards.
Even so, compared to the War Gods of the Light and Holy Guardians, the duties of the Shadow Guards were different.
The War Gods of the Light and other high-ranking experts of the Curia were responsible for the front-line tasks, such as slaying the dark clan, spreading the doctrine, and disseminating positive energy to the people.
What the Shadow Guards were entrusted, though, was poles apart from the rest. They would report directly to Pope Eugene, carrying out dishonorable missions.
For example, there would be times when those with power would challenge the majesty of the Curia but the Curia, due to its reputation could never openly take action That was where the Shadow Guards
came in and took care of the matter.
The Shadow Guards had always kept a low profile, so much so that even when the Curia waged war against the vampires, they did not participate.
Never would anyone expect that Pope Eugene would wish to meet up with one of the Top Four Shadow Guards, Locryn.
Beside Locryn who went by the codename Havik, the remaining three of the Top Four Shadow Guards were Adam the Governor, Eddie the Chief Justice, and Jovan the Executive Officer. The Top Four Shadow Guards possessed extraordinary abilities, and each one of them was an unparalleled elite.
Their given roles also differed.
Havik was specifically in charge of intelligence gathering while Governor was responsible for sorting and organizing the
information collected from a net
the globe before delivering it to
Eddie, the Chief Justice.
Eddie was in charge of keeping things under control. If there was someone posing a threat to the Curia, he would dispatch Jovan, the Executive Officer, to hunt them down and eliminate the threat. Never in a million years did Anoud expect that Eugene IV would want to see Havik. He reckoned that there must be a significant issue at hand waiting for Locryn to settle it.
Not a second more did he dare to waste as he darted off to summon Havik.
