Salute To The General -
Chapter 3528 A Pawn
Hepburn fell silent.
After a long time, she slowly began, "Mr. Cross, I'm going to be completely honest with you. I'm afraid the situation is out of my hands now. The vampires will not agree to withdraw from the human world just like that. The proud vampires will not consent to live in seclusion among the barren mountains, spending each day with gnawing hunger. Primordial vampire elites like Shadowbeard won't agree either. As for the enigmatic Morgon, he won't like that idea, too."
Nathan asked, "What's wrong?"
Sighing sadly, she continued, "I've only just realized that I'm merely a pawn on a chessboard. My destiny is gradually slipping out of my own control."
Shadowbeard... Morgon...
Nathan's eyebrows were tightly knitted.
He, too, could sense that recently, one or several unseen puppeteers had been subtly and deliberately orchestrating the return of vampires to the human world, intentionally stirring up conflict between vampires and humans. Individuals like Shadowbeard and Morgon as such might all represent a certain power.
They appeared to be assisting Hepburn, but they might have their own agenda. Hepburn was perhaps merely a pawn in their game.
Hepburn had already recomposed herself and said lightly, "Moreover, the Curia has declared their intention to annihilate the last of the vampires. Pope Eugene has expanded the Holy Army tenfold. Even if we're willing to go into seclusion, I doubt Pope Eugene would agree. The Curia is determined to exterminate us. This battle is bound to happen sooner or later."
Nathan fell into deep thought, remaining silent.
Nathan said, "Trust me. Manage the vampires well and stop killing humans, including evil humans who are guilty of countless crimes, let alone turn them into vampires. All you have to do is keep the vampires in check and don't let them act recklessly. I'll go talk to the people at the Curia. Let me try to persuade them to resolve the conflict peacefully."
Hepburn said, "It's useless. The Curia won't listen to you..."
Nathan cut her off, "We won't know if it'll work until we try. Can you promise me to keep the vampires in check?"
Hepburn hesitated for a couple of seconds, then nodded firmly. "Okay. I promise that from now on, the vampires will not do anything out of line."
Nathan stood up. "All right, I'll head to the Curia now to meet with Pope Eugene. Until a conclusion is reached, you and the rest of the vampires can't mess around."
Hepburn hadn't expected Nathan to leave in such a hurry.
She quickly walked him out of the hall, where Colin, Shadowbeard, and the other vampires had been waiting for a long time.
They all breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that both Nathan and Hepburn were still alive.
Hepburn declared, "No one is to stop Mr. Cross from leaving.
Furthermore, from this moment on

no one in the vampire clan is to indiscriminately kill humans. Wait for my instructions on everything."
All the vampires wore looks of surprise and disbelief upon hearing Hepburn's words.
The primordial vampires, especially, exchanged shocked and furious looks.
They were all primordial vampires from the Divine Realm.
They came to Earth with the
intention of aiding the vampires in their expansion. Ideally, their aspiration was for the vampires eradicate humanity entirely,
assimilating them into their
fofd.

Ultimately, once the vampires had amassed sufficient power, they would proceed with a pivotal clash against the Gods.
Either the vampires perish, or the Gods fall.
Unexpectedly, just as the vampires were beginning to prosper, Hepburn issued an order forbidding them from killing humans. How could the vampire clan expand without killing humans?
The primordial vampires all believed that Nathan had ruined their plans and began harboring murderous intentions toward him. However, they couldn't openly defy Hepburn's orders, so they all turned to look at Shadowbeard, hoping he could make a decision. Shadowbeard responded calmly, "Yes, Your Majesty. I will escort Mr. Cross out."
After saying that, without receiving approval from Hepburn, he stepped forward and extended his hand toward Nathan, saying solemnly, "Mr. Cross, allow me to escort you. This way. I'll see you off."
Nathan glanced at Shadowbeard and said impassively, "Okay. Thank you for leading the way."
