Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 36: A conversation with Alpha Victor

Alpha Knox POV

I felt like a total dumbass, Chloe finally came forward and everything I wanted to say went out the window. My brain literally went blank. I must of looked like a teenage boy trying to talk to a pretty girl for the first time. I internally scolded myself for looking like an i***t. Lucky for me, she didn’t seem to mind my inability to speak and started telling me about her past.

I was beyond excited that she was ready to open up. But that was short lived, once she started telling me about her past, my b***d was boiling. Not only did Cameron try to rape her, but he rejected their bond and killed her mother right in front of her eyes. My wolf wanted control, he wanted seek revenge for our mate. I agreed with him, I want to kill Cameron, but now was not the time. Chloe needed us, she needed our comfort and love. I made a silent promise that Cameron will die for what he has done and that seemed to mildly settle my wolf.

It bothered me that Chloe thought she was weak for abandoning Tatiana. If only she knew how strong she actually was. That’s something I want to work on with her, making her see her worth and strength.

I took her home after dinner, the car ride was silent, we were both deep in thought. I was still dealing with a murderous wolf in my head, that was thrashing and growling like a rabid beast, just begging to be released.

Even thought dinner didn’t quite go as I wanted, it was a step in the right direction for Chloe and I. She opened up but not only that, when I told her that I loved her, she seemed genuinely happy. I really hope I can help her heal from everything that scum bag put her through.

When we reached the pack house, I kissed her goodnight, before she retreated into her room and I made my way outside.

My wolf needed to run off his frustrations, if I wanted to get any sleep at all, I needed to let him out.

As soon as I reached the tree line, I stripped out of my clothes and let Gunner takeover. He took off like a bat out of hell through the forest. He ran for hours, until he was completely spent and finally collapsed on the ground.

‘We will make him pay for what he did.’ I tried to comfort him.

‘I want to kill him, now!’ He exclaimed.

‘We have to be smart about this, we can’t put our mate or the pack in danger.’ I replied and he huffed in frustration.

‘Fine, but if he tried to take our mate from us, he’s dead.’ He growled.

‘You have my permission to rip his throat out if he ever tries.’ I replied and that seem to calm him for the time being.

‘Now, can we go back so I can sleep? We still need to deal with Kyle tomorrow.’ I asked.

‘Fine.’ He huffed, before getting up and making his way back to where we left our clothes.

I shifted into to my human form and got dressed, before heading up to my room.

I was completely exhausted, it didn’t take long for me to fall asleep once my head hit the pillow.

******

I must of been tired, because when I finally woke up it was already 9:00am. I didn’t have the best sleep, but the run we went on definitely helped. I climbed out of bed and had a quick shower before getting dressed for the day.

I left my room and headed to Chloe’s, but there was no answer when I knocked. I figured she must of gone down for breakfast already, so I made my way downstairs.

I reached the dinner hall and smiled to myself when I saw her sitting at a table with Max and Sheryl. All three of them were talking and laughing, even Sheryl seemed genuinely happy. She no longer had that sad, defeated look in her eyes, something seemed different about her. I couldn’t quit put my finger on it, but she did seem more confident.

I decided not to interrupt and let them have some girl time. In all honesty, maybe that’s what Sheryl needs to open her eyes when it comes to Kyle.

I grabbed a breakfast sandwich and headed to my office. I had a few things I needed to take care of today, before talking with Sheryl about Kyle’s punishment.

I was going over some documents when the phone rang.

“Alpha Knox, speaking.” I greeted, after picking it up.

“Alpha Knox, this is Alpha Victor, from the Black Hawk Pack. Do you have a moment?” He asked.

I knew Alpha Victor very well. He use to be one of our biggest allies, until my father betrayed him several years ago. We haven’t been on good terms since then. He’s one of the alliances that I was hoping to mend at the Alpha meeting next week. He’s a good man, but a little bit old school. I have a lot of respect for him and how he leads his pack.

“Of course Alpha Victor, how can I help you?” I asked curiously.

“I would like for us to meet in person before the Alpha meeting next week. There’s a few things that I would like to discuss with you in private.” He replied and it only peaked my curiosity more. I wonder what he wanted to discuss?

“Of course, Alpha. Why don’t you come see me tomorrow? We can have lunch?” I offered. Maybe this will be my opportunity to salvage our alliance.

“Great. I’ll be there around noon.” He replied.

After hanging up the phone, I got back to work. I kept thinking about my conversation with Alpha Victor, I’m surprised that he reached out first. He hates my father with a passion, hopefully he see that I’m not like him and that he can trust me. I was brought out of my thoughts when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in” I announced.

The door opened, before Jag and Jo walked in. They made themselves comfortable in the chairs on the other side of my desk like they always do.

“So? How was your date with Red? Jo asked, while wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.

“Can you not right now?” I replied, while shaking my head in disapproval.

“I also want to know. When are you going to mark her? Or even tell the pack that you’ve found your mate?” Jag asked with a curious frown.

“Fine. Our date was both good and not so good.” I replied with a heavy sigh. They both had curious expressions, but remained silent so that I would explain further.

“Chloe finally came forward and talked to me. She even opened up about her past and first mate, so that was huge progress.” I started explaining.

“I won’t go into detail since it’s not my story to tell, but what Alpha Cameron put her through almost made me lose my mind. At one point, Gunner took control and started to shift in the middle of the restaurant.” I continued and both their eyes widened in shock.

“Let’s just say, what he did to her is at the very top of the worst case scenario list. I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the meeting next week without killing him.” I confessed with a frustrated sigh.

“s**t man, I don’t even know what to say. That’s brutal. What are you going to do? We organized this meeting if we cancel it, it won’t look good on us.” Jag replied and he was right. I can’t cancel this meeting and I really don’t want Chloe coming either. Her presence would calm my wolf and I down, but what if seeing Cameron ruins all the progress I’ve made with her? I really don’t want to risk that. Not to mention, I don’t trust the guy. He’s already tried kidnapping her, I wouldn’t put it past him to do it again.

“We aren’t cancelling. I’ll just have to keep myself in check, avoid him the best I can.” I replied.

“If I see you losing your cool, I suggest you go for a breather.” Jag offered and I nodded my head. I was grateful to have such good men by my side.

“Alpha Victor is coming for lunch tomorrow, he wants to discuss something with me.” I said and they both looked surprised. Everyone was well away of our damaged alliance.

“Do you think it’s a peaceful visit? Or something bad?” Jo asked.

“I didn’t get any hostility from him on the phone, I’m hoping he’s open to talk about our alliance.” I replied truthfully.

“That would be good. He’s got a strong pack, it would be nice to have them on our side if we end up going to war.” Jag added and I nodded.

“Can you make sure the kitchen staff prepare a meal for our guests? I still have to deal with the Kyle situation.” I asked Jag.

“No problem. Speaking of Kyle, what are you going to do with him?” Jag asked curiously.

“I’m not sure yet. I’m going to talk with Sheryl a little later and make a decision after that.” I replied.

“Max was pretty impressed with how you handled Kyle. I almost felt jealous about how much she was praising you.” Jo admitted with an eye roll, causing Jag and I to chuckle.

“Sounds like you got some competition.” Jag teased with a wink.

“If I knew that beating up Kyle would have made Max all hot and heavy, I would of done it a while ago.” Jo replied with his own chuckle.

“How’s she doing since coming back?” I asked curiously.

“Good, we’re slowing making progress. She hasn’t opened up to me yet, but I’ll get there. Just trying to get her to put pants on has been a losing battle, so baby steps I guess. The woman is freaking stubborn.” Jo admitted, causing Jag and I to burst out laughing. Max wasn’t just stubborn, she was impossible to deal with. Making them a perfect match.

“The moon goddess definitely did well matching you two together.” I said, while still chuckling.

“Definitely. I couldn’t imagine someone else being my mate. She keeps me on my toes that’s for sure and it certainly doesn’t get boring when I’m around her.” He replied, with his own light chuckle.

I could see Jag’s expression sour a bit, the mate subject was always a tough one for him. I really hope he gets blessed with his mate soon. He deserves to replace her and I know he’s going to be a great partner to whoever ends up with him.

“It will be your turn soon, Jag, I got a good feeling.” I told him.

“I don’t know about that, it’s already been 5 years. I’m starting to lose hope.” He said with a heavy sigh.

“You’re going to meet your mate when you least expect it and who knows, if she’s anything like Max and Chloe, you better be on high alert. If I were you, I’d start wearing a hockey cup now, in anticipation of the potential violence. Remember when Knox first met Tatiana? She tried to kill him and Max threatened to cut my arm off and slap me with it. Not exactly what I envisioned happening when I first met my mate.” Jo replied and we all chuckled at the memory. It certainly wasn’t love at first sight on their end.

“I hope you guys are right.” Jag said, sounding a bit more hopeful.

Our conversation was interrupted when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in.” I announced.

The door opened and Sheryl stood on the other side looking nervous.

I guess this was a good time to have that conversation with her about Kyle and figure out an appropriate punishment for him.
