Chapter 233
Winston’s gaze swept over Millie, his eyes burning with anger.
Hadn’t he told her that night to stop targeting Joanna? He had thought if they could get along, Milliewould leave Joanna alone. But now, it seemed like he had overestimated her decency.
Millie ignored Winston’s scrutiny and fixed her eyes on Joanna. Deep down, she sarcasticallyapplauded Joanna for being so pretentious. What a show she had put on!
“What did I do to you?” Millie was determined to get to the bottom of it. Wasn’t she the one whotried to break up the fight and got injured by mistake?
Probably because of her harsh tone, Joanna shuddered and sought refuge in Winston’s arms. Sheappeared even more delicate and pitiful now.
Winston frowned while gently patting Joanna’s back. “Millie, it wasn’t Joanna’s fault she gave thefake Snowdrop. She was deceived too. I know you gave the genuine one, but there’s no need to beso aggressive.”
“I don’t see how I’ve been aggressive.” Millie looked at Winston in confusion.
“You’re being aggressive right now!” he responded coldly. To him, her insistence on an answerreflected her aggression.
Millie was at a loss for words.
“You’ve already beaten Joanna like this. What more could you possibly want?” Winston questioned,a hint of disappointment flashing in his eyes. “Do you not realize she’s frail and can’t fight?”
Holding a bottle of iodine, Hazel watched as the two were about to argue. Her lips parted sligh as shthought of clarifying that Millie hadn’t beaten up Joanna.
However, Joanna glared at her, signaling her to hold her tongue.
Millie stared at Winston, her doe eyes filled with resignation. Joanna was frail? She was the typewho could fight anyone that came her way.
The same situation would happen whenever Joanna was involved. Winston would surely lose hisrationality. She was always his top priority, the one he deeply cherished.
As Millie recalled his recent gentleness, she could not help but replace it ironic. She had thought thatWinston no longer saw her as a cruel woman. But looking at it now, his kindness seemed to benothing more than a gesture of charity.
Winston was merely bestowing a hint of insincere affection to Millie, the evil woman who constantlyprovoked his unforgettable first love.
Truly, men were not to be trusted.
“Yes, I wanted more. I regret not taking the chance to siap and kick her a few more times!” Millieyelled, her voice breaking with sobs.
She thought it was really unfortunate that she had missed out on such a good opportunity.
Winston’s gaze darkened instantly. He looked at Millie, and a surge of fury welled inside him.

He didn’t want things to escalate this far with her, yet it seemed like she was unaware of hisintentions. Why did Millie insist on confronting Joanna? What could she possibly gain from hurting
her?
In the end, her actions would only slowly extinguish the flicker of tenderness he harbored for her.
“Millie, I’m truly disappointed in you,” Winston said in a low voice, his eyes betraying a hint ofsadness.
Millie choked up upon hearing that. Then, she could not help but chuckle. His statement was trulyridiculous!
Winston observed her smile and couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a blatant provocation. Howcould she display such arrogance, showing no remorse for hitting Joanna?
“I’ll get to the bottom of why you brought up the Snowdrop issue again.”
Winston looked at her coldly before scooping Joanna up and walked out. When they walked pastMillie, he deliberately bumped into her with his shoulder.
Millie stumbled back. The moment she lifted her head, she caught a triumphant glint in Joanna’seyes. It was as if she was telling Millie she could not be outmatched.
The air grew heavy with tension, and even Hazel felt suffocated. It seemed like the situation hadtaken a turn for the worse.
Just last night, Winston had been worried about Millie. He even rushed to the hospital in the dead ofnight to replace her.
