Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) -
Chapter 109
Xavier did not receive an immediate reply once he had sent the message.
After all, it was already one in the morning. Winnie would most likely be asleep by then.
Nevertheless, there would still be people working diligently late into the night, such as Louis.
A minute ago, he had sent Xavier some documents.
Mr. Xavier, these are the documents from the logistic companies under Fairchild Corporation that Mrs. Fairchild had asked for. I did notice some discrepancies in some accounts as well as the shipping routes. Would you like to view it before I send it to Mrs. Fairchild?
Xavier immediately downloaded and opened the documents.
Louis had circled the discrepancies in red. As Xavier continued to browse through, his frown got deeper and deeper.
He knew that this clue had first been given by Christopher, the captain of the Narcotics Enforcement Department, to Winnie. Christopher was the one who had asked her to investigate the logistics companies. Nonetheless, Xavier could not get himself to like Christopher.
Xavier remembered that Winnie had mentioned that she and Christopher even had a mutual friend between the two of them.
Winnie also had never pretended to be mentally impaired in front of Christopher. Hence, Xavier refused to believe that Christopher did not have any feelings toward Winnie.
In fact, he was certain that Christopher had feelings for her. Otherwise, Christopher would not send her home, nor would he drape a coat over her.
Moreover, any investigation related to drugs would be dangerous. Christopher might be used to it since it was his job, but Winnie had never been involved in such investigations.
Xavier did not want her to take that risk.
Thus, he made a decision on his own.
Xavier: I've gone through the documents. You don't have to send it to Mrs. Fairchild, nor do you have to contact her any further regarding this. Please give me the contact number of Christopher from the Narcotics Enforcement Department. I'll contact him myself.
Louis: All right, Mr. Fairchild. Give me a moment.
Within a minute, Louis sent Xavier a phone number.
Here's the contact number of Captain Bennett.
The moment he received the phone number, Xavier dialed the number on the spot without any hint of hesitation.
Christopher's job was taxing, causing him to constantly stay up till two or three in the morning.
It was only a little past one. In other words, Christopher was wide awake, and within seconds, he picked up the phone.
"Hello, Christopher speaking. Who's this?"
"Hi, this is Xavier Fairchild. Are you free to talk right now? I have the documents regarding the logistics companies under Fairchild Corporation that you wanted. Other than that, I have a video clip that I believe you'd be interested in." After a brief pause, Xavier answered, "Sure. I'll send it to you in a few."
The exchange between the two men was brief and straight to the point.
Once they had ended the call, Xavier brought his phone and went to the room Yulissa was in. Yulissa had just finished injecting herself and was relaxing by leaning against the bedframe.
Seeing that Xavier had entered so suddenly, she immediately stood up and hastily tidied herself up.
Even though she had already accidentally shown him her evil and disheveled side, she secretly still cared about his impression of her.
To her dismay, Xavier did not even toss her a second glance but immediately stated the reason he was there. "Send me the video you've shown me just now. I want to submit it to the police. Any objections?" Yulissa's brows knitted together. She felt a little uneasy to do so. After all, if the video got leaked, it would be the end of her.
"Is that police officer trustworthy?"
"He has always been investigating you and Zyon. What do you think?"
"Okay, then I'll send it to you. Hand me your phone. The file size of the video is a bit large. It'll be faster if I just transfer it to your phone via Nearby Share."
"Okay." Xavier passed Yulissa his phone. Throughout the entire process, his eyes had not left his phone for even one second for fear that Yulissa might do anything suspicious.
However, just as she had just started to transfer the video, Josiah's voice came from outside.
He was calling for Xavier, and he sounded like he had an emergency.
Xavier scowled. Why must Josiah call me now?
Upon seeing Xavier's annoyance, Yulissa returned his phone to him.
"I know you're suspecting me and are worried that I'll do something to your phone. You can take your phone away first. Once you're done helping Josiah, you can come back. I respect the fact that you're still suspicious of me, but I hope that I can earn some basic trust."
Xavier accepted the phone and wheeled out of the room.
However, he was back within minutes.
That time round, Xavier also kept his gaze fixed on his phone till the video was transferred.
When the notification bell signaled that the transfer was completed, Yulissa flashed Xavier a smile. "See, I didn't do anything. Can you trust me now?"
Xavier merely peered at her with a deadpan expression. "Know your place."
What he didn't know was that when he had gone to help Josiah with the hot water when the heater stopped working mid-shower, Yulissa had secretly planted a one-time virus in the original video clip. Once the video was downloaded, the virus would install an invisible program on the phone that would allow Yulissa to see everything on the phone screen.
Furthermore, once the installation is completed, the program would trigger the virus to self-destruct. Because of that, most anti-virus programs would not be able to detect anything out of the ordinary. Completely oblivious to the presence of the virus, Xavier had downloaded the video.
After that, he sent the video to Christopher.
Once the video had been sent, Xavier attached another text.
Winnie is my wife. I do not wish for her to be involved in such a dangerous case. I hope that you would cut off all contact with my wife in the future, Captain Bennett.
Xavier thought that he had made it clear. If Christopher was a reasonable person, he would not contact Winnie any further.
Unexpectedly, Christopher completely disregarded his request.
Christopher: Mr. Fairchild, if I'm not mistaken, your marriage with Winnie has never been approved by either of your families. You two are just fooling around. She and I are friends. Naturally, I wouldn't want her to be in danger as well. However, this is not an excuse you can use to prevent me from contacting her in the future.
Xavier: Does this mean you're planning to compete with me?
Christopher: Mr. Fairchild, I respect Winnie's decisions completely. Where did you get the idea that I'm competing with you? Thank you for the clues you've provided. I will continue the investigation as best as I
can.
Xavier stared at the texts in disbelief.
How dare he!
He then switched off his phone out of frustration. If he had been on the fence before that, he was convinced that Christopher had feelings toward Winnie by then. The mere thought of it made his blood boil. Of course, Xavier did not know that his phone had been spied on by Yulissa the moment he had downloaded the video.
Yulissa had seen his chats with Winnie and was taken aback by what she saw.
From the messages between Winnie and Xavier, it was easily deduced that Winnie was never mentally impaired. She was a completely normal person.
When she came to the conclusion, Yulissa could not help but laugh at herself, thinking that she had been a fool.
In the past, she was foolish enough to think that Xavier would fall for a retard; foolish enough to think that she could get away with pushing Winnie off a hill.
With the current knowledge that she had obtained, she finally realized that everything had been an act that Winnie had put up.
What a scheming vixen! No wonder she stole Xavier's heart so easily! No wonder she didn't die when she was pushed off the hill! No wonder she could send Kylie to prison with just a bracelet! She was never mentally challenged in the first place!
However, what Yulissa found to be more interesting was Winnie's relationship with Christopher.
If Winnie betrays Xavier and ends up with the police officer, does that mean I still have a chance? No, it's fine even if I don't. If I can't have him, no one can! Not even Winnie!
"Winnie Garland." Yulissa's grip tightened around her phone. "Just you wait!"
