Early the next morning, Winnie reached for the phone on the shelf by her bedside out of habit the moment she woke up.

Xavier's messages popped up on her screen the second she switched her phone on.

One of the messages was sent five minutes ago, asking if she had woken up. The other message was a reply to her text the previous night, as well as wishing her a good night's sleep.

When she read the heartwarming messages, Winnie's lips curled upward into a smile.

However, things started going downhill the moment she got out of bed.

She was currently living in the Garland residence at the moment. Due to the fact that Hamish, the patriarch of the Garlands did not welcome her, the treatment Winnie and Jacinta received was not pleasant.

The housekeepers had prepared breakfast for Hamish. Once he had finished eating, it was the housekeepers' turn to eat.

However, the housekeepers never paid Winnie and Jacinta any attention.

Moreover, the housekeepers were always hogging the kitchen. Jacinta did not even have the chance to cook on her own.

Because of that, the elderly lady was livid. In her heart, she had reprimanded Hamish as hard as she could.

After a while, Jacinta calmed down. Only then did Winnie walk up to comfort her.

"I don't even like their cooking. Let's eat out. That way, we can eat whatever we want. I'm craving custard pudding right now. Granny, you haven't had it in a while too, right?" "Right. I haven't had custard pudding since I got here."

"Just nice, then. I'll take you to a shop nearby. The custard pudding there is out of this world."

Once the pair had made up their minds, they headed out in good spirits.

When the custard puddings were served, Winnie suddenly remembered that she had not replied to Xavier's texts.

After pondering for a while, she decided to just send Xavier a photo of her breakfast.

Within seconds, the man replied: Not bad.

Winnie was feeling a little bored as she had her breakfast. Upon seeing Xavier's brief reply, she decided to tease him.

Winnie: Doesn't it look good? Do you want some?

Xavier: I do.

Winnie: Oh, so where are you now?

When Xavier saw the message, he froze. After all, he was currently at another house in Avenport.

After a few seconds of hesitation, he typed out a few words.

Hence, Winnie had received such a text: I've been at home.

Winnie: Ok.

Just as Winnie typed out the two letters, Jacinta could not help but scold her lightly, "Winnie, why do you like looking at your phone when you're eating? Look at you. Some of your pudding has fallen onto the table."

"Ah?" Winnie had, in fact, not realized. When she lowered her head, she quickly noticed a small clump of pudding on the table.

She had gotten a custard pudding with salted caramel drizzle. A few drops of caramel had even dripped onto her white shirt.

Annoyance flared up in her heart at once. She reached for a napkin and started to clean her shirt. For a moment, she stopped texting Xavier.

On the other end of the phone, Xavier quickly tucked his phone away at the sight of Yulissa.

Upon seeing Xavier keeping his phone away, Yulissa tried to keep a calm expression even when she found the whole situation hilarious.

She enjoyed the fact that she could spy on Xavier's phone whenever she liked, despite the fact that Xavier would hide it from her.

She had seen the conversation between him and Winnie. In other words, she knew that he was lying to Winnie.

Xavier was living with her under the same roof, yet he had lied to Winnie by saying that he had been in Aqua Moana all the while. Yulissa could not help but snicker secretly.

Before they left the shop, Winnie bought another custard pudding for takeaway.

Jacinta found her actions a little odd. "Are you still hungry? Why don't you just eat at the shop?"

"I'm almost full, just that I might still want a couple more bites later." Winnie casually came up with an explanation.

Afterward, she brought Jacinta to her unit in Aqua Moana.

She rarely stayed in that unit, much less cook in it. Hence, there was not a single trace of food in the kitchen.

Aqua Moana was located in the most elite residential area in Avenport. There were no shops nearby for them to eat. Therefore, Jacinta decided to cook them a meal herself.

Winnie had originally planned to follow Jacinta to buy some groceries, but Jacinta knew that her granddaughter had her own things to take care of and reassured Winnie that she would be fine on her own.

"You don't have to come with me. Focus on what you need to do. I'll be fine on my own. I'm not going to buy a lot of things, so I can manage by myself."

As a matter of fact, Winnie did have something she needed to discuss with Nathaniel. Because of that, she stopped insisting on following.

Once Jacinta had left, Winnie immediately entered the study and switched on the computer.

However, Nathaniel had just received an urgent and more important call. Without any other choice, his meeting with Winnie was delayed by a couple of minutes.

Because it was just a ten-minute delay, Winnie did not want to focus on any other tasks.

Since Jacinta was also not in the unit, Winnie decided that she might as well bring the custard pudding, that she had bought, upstairs.

Directly a floor above would be Xavier's territory. He had mentioned that he wanted some custard pudding.

Within two minutes, Winnie arrived on the thirty-second floor.

Even though she had the password to the door, she still rang the doorbell, thinking that there was someone inside.

However, no one answered the door even after several minutes.

She thought that it was odd.

Even if it was not convenient for Xavier to move around in a wheelchair, five minutes had passed. He should be able to reach the door even if he crawled on the floor. Could something have happened to him?

At that thought, Winnie immediately punched in the numbers on the padlock and opened the door.

When she entered the unit, she could not replace a glimpse of Xavier in any of the rooms.

She had even inspected the bed in the master's bedroom. There was no sign of someone sleeping on it. From the looks of it, Xavier had not returned home last night. But he said on WhatsApp that he has been at home.

Winnie took out her phone and opened the chat between her and Xavier before quickly sending a text.

Are you still in Aqua Moana right now?

Xavier once again replied within seconds: Yeah, why?

Hah! F*cking liar!

She could not believe that Xavier had lied to her.

Lifting the corners of her lips to a smirk, Winnie stopped responding to Xavier's texts.

As she was leaving, she tossed the custard pudding into the bin in the master's bedroom. The contents spilled, filling the room with the sweet scent of custard and salted caramel. Meanwhile, their entire conversation had been read by Yulissa. Not even a single punctuation mark was missed.

Seeing that Xavier kept lying to Winnie because of herself, Yulissa could not help but feel a surge of happiness in her heart.

She was even beginning to think that if she did not try to do anything to separate them, Xavier's lies would have gone to waste.

After all, a single lie would usually require a hundred more lies to cover it up.

If Xavier were to tell Winnie a hundred lies, then the two of them would probably not last any longer.

Trust between two people was the most fragile thing in the entire world. With just a few misunderstandings, even the truest love could turn into the strongest hatred within a few months. As of then, Yulissa could not wait for all of that to unfold.
