The man chuckled awkwardly. "I-I'm Professor White's assistant. Maybe it was too dark last night, so you didn't get a good look at my face, but I really am his assistant. I'm not lying!"

"Then where is Professor White?" Winnie's brows were tightly knitted as disbelief washed over her. "Why were you wearing the helmet? Wasn't Professor White the one wearing the helmet last night?"

"I..." Sensing that the two women on board the car were about to murder him at any time, the man gulped. He scrunched up his face and explained, "There was heavy gunfire last night. I'm just an ordinary person, so, obviously, I'm scared of getting shot by a stray bullet. There were two helmets in the car at that time, I saw Professor White putting on a helmet, so I picked up the remaining one and put it on. I just wanted to live. Then, you said you wanted the med kit, so I went into the car to get the med kit. After that, you pulled me onto the bike. I thought it was because the car was too small for so many people, and that's why you dragged me onto the bike. I didn't know that you wanted to bring Professor White away back then. I thought you arranged for Professor White to be in the car because it would be safer, and that's why you brought me to take the bike with you."

As the assistant explained, he kept glancing at Winnie. Winnie was not the only one in disbelief; even he found the whole thing confusing.

Winnie studied the assistant. He did not look like he was lying at all.

Furthermore, his explanation made sense-it matched what had happened the night before.

Winnie's brows furrowed even more. "Then why didn't you deny it when I called you Professor White today? Also, why didn't you explain to me when I mentioned your leg injury?"

The assistant was aggrieved. "I thought you called me by the wrong name. After all, it had been desperate circumstances. You even called me Xavier when you asked me to pass you the gauze. I know that people would make mistakes like these when they're anxious, so I didn't explain anything because I didn't think it'd be necessary. Moreover, I did injure my leg. Professor White wasn't the only one who was hurt in the sewer. I was, too. But I know I'm not as important to you, and everyone was in a rush to escape. I didn't want to make more trouble for you, so I didn't say anything."

Everything the assistant had said was true, and Winnie was rendered speechless.

All she could do was blame herself for her carelessness. She was the one who thought the one wearing a helmet and holding a med kit was Riley.

With those thoughts in mind, Winnie gritted her teeth and cursed under her breath, "D*mn it."

She was currently unable to contact Xavier, and she had no idea whether or not he realized the real Riley was in his car.

Furthermore, she did not know whether they were currently safe or not.

Still, her priority at that moment was to send Christopher to the hospital.

Yulissa had readily agreed to come back and pick Christopher up because Winnie had promised to send Riley safely to Yulissa.

Yet, Riley was now missing.

Winnie let out a long resigned sigh before calling out Yulissa's name. She then tried to explain to her, "Sorry. You heard him too. This is a misunderstanding. I've brought the wrong person, but your grandpa should be with Xavier right now. We did take him out of Harold's factory."

Nevertheless, Yulissa was livid to hear Winnie's explanation.

"Winnie Garland, do you really take me as a fool just because I've lost to you several times before? You're f*cking toying with me! Are you enjoying this? You and Christopher went there to save my grandpa, but you ended up rescuing the wrong person. Now, you're telling me that this is a misunderstanding and that my grandpa is with Xavier? Sure, prove it to me! If you can't prove it, then that means you're just a godd*mn liar! You and Christopher are afraid I'd expose your secrets to Harold, so you're using my grandpa as a shield! I'm telling you now, Winnie Garland. My grandpa is my only bottom line. If you have the guts to use my grandpa to mess with me, you'll have to pay the price for it. I'm going to drag you to hell even if it means I have to go there too!"

Winnie took in a deep breath. "I'm not lying to you. Give me your phone. I'll call Xavier right now, but you can't stop the car. You have to keep driving."

"You motherf*cker!" Yulissa screamed. Winnie was starting to get mad. "Yulissa White, mind your words!"

"What's the matter?" Yulissa barked out a laugh. "You're upset because I mentioned your mother? Then do you think I'd be happy about you using my grandpa to mess with me?"

As she spoke, she fished out her phone and threw it toward the backseat. "Make the call. Make the call to Xavier right now. I have to hear my grandpa speak today!"

Winnie caught the phone, but she hesitated after opening the call function.

Of course, she could call Xavier at any time, but after the series of events the night before, she was unsure if Xavier still had his phone with him.

It would be best if he could pick up the call and tell her that he and Riley were fine.

But what if I can't get through to him or if no one picks up the call? Yulissa's going to lose it.

Those thoughts brought a frown to Winnie's face.

When she lowered her head to glance at the unconscious Christopher, another idea popped into her head.

If Xavier doesn't pick up the call, I'll have to wrestle with Yulissa to be in control of the car. She's not going to just send Christopher to the hospital like this. Hence, as Winnie dialed Xavier's number with her right hand, she reached up to the special necklace around her neck with her left hand.

At the same time, she slowly leaned forward to allow herself to grab Yulissa easier later.

Once she was in the right position, she made the call. Alas, Xavier's phone was switched off.

Nonetheless, Winnie did not tell Yulissa about that right away, for she was ready to make her move.

What Winnie never saw coming was that Yulissa had sensed something amiss.

Before she could make her move, Yulissa struck.

For a moment, Winnie thought that Yulissa would whip out a gun to aim at her or flee the car.

However, Yulissa did neither of those. Instead, she picked up a gas mask by her feet and put it on.

"What are you trying to do?" Winnie realized that Yulissa was going to gas the car, but by then, Yulissa had already locked the car doors.

There was no way she and Riley's assistant could get out.

In the next second, white toxic gas rose from Yulissa's position.

Winnie hastily pulled her shirt up to cover her nose, but that was essentially useless. Furthermore, not only did she need to take care of herself, but she also needed to care for Christopher.

It did not help that she knew nothing about the toxin Yulissa had used. Winnie might be fine after inhaling a breath or two, but that was certainly not the case for Christopher.

The space within the car was small, and soon, the gas filled the interior.

No one but Yulissa had a gas mask on, so in seconds, the others passed out.

Yulissa gave a kick at the man in the front passenger seat. Only after making sure that he was completely unresponsive did she wind down the window.

As the gas went out of the car, Yulissa's sight cleared up.

Turning to look at the unconscious Winnie, she sneered. "That'll teach you a lesson. You shouldn't have fought with me. Did you think I came empty-handed?" I'm the granddaughter of a genius chemist. How can I not have some shred of chemistry knowledge myself?

Then, Yulissa stepped on the accelerator and sped off.

Winnie was awakened from getting shocked. Yet, right as she opened her eyes, she was forced to close them again by the harsh lights above her.

It was so bright that she could not open her eyes again, but she could discern her current situation.

Her ears were ringing. Her tongue and her limbs still felt tingly and numb. She deduced it was probably because of the gas she had inhaled in the car previously.

Other than that, she also knew that she was currently suspended in the air. It would be impossible for her to escape like this.

However, the one she was worried about most was not herself but Christopher.

A beat later, she forced her eyes open to study her surroundings. Unfortunately, she saw no signs of Christopher nor Riley's assistant around.

She and Yulissa were the only ones in the windowless room.

Winnie squinted at the expressionless Yulissa. As her tongue still felt numb, it took her much effort to voice out, "Where's Christopher? How is he? Where did you take him to?"

"Ha!" Yulissa snorted. "Winnie, don't you know what kind of situation you're in right now? You can barely keep yourself safe, but you're still thinking about Christopher? Haha! What a selfless being you are. Why didn't I know that you were such a magnanimous person before? I never saw you being merciful toward your father, stepmother, and stepsister back in the country, though. Or could it be that..."

Yulissa ambled away from Winnie as she continued snickering. "Could it be that you're so worried about Christopher because you have an affair with him?"

"Yulissa!" Winnie whipped her head toward the other woman. "Stop your nonsense. I swear on my life that we saved your grandpa from Harold's factory. I promise you that you'll be able to see your grandpa, but Christopher's condition is deteriorating! You can get a doctor here if that's what you prefer, or you can send him to the hospital. Please!"

"What?" Yulissa abruptly burst into laughter upon hearing Winnie's words. Dramatically cupping her ears, she asked, "What did you just say? I didn't hear that wrongly, did I? Are you actually begging me for something?"

"Yes," Winnie uttered as she kept her eyes fixed on Yulissa. "You didn't hear that wrongly. I'm begging you. I'm begging you to save Christopher."

"Hahaha! Now, that's interesting!" Yulissa laughed even more boisterously. "This is such an interesting thing, and it's an event worth memorizing. Do wait a moment before you beg me again. It's such a memorable event that I have to record it."

As Yulissa said that, she turned and left the room.

When Yulissa opened the door and went out, Winnie noticed that there were stairs right outside the room.

In other words, she was locked up in a basement.

While Yulissa was not around, Winnie tugged the cuffs around her wrists tentatively.

Alas, the cuffs were too tight, and she could not break free of them.

After discovering that struggling was only a waste of her strength, Winnie stopped.

Furthermore, Yulissa came back not long after.

She had brought a tripod back. Once she fixed the phone to the tripod, she faced the camera at Winnie and turned on the recording function.

"Come on." After adjusting the angle, Yulissa beamed at Winnie. "You can start begging me now."

Winnie's eyes flitted toward Yulissa. "Have you started recording? Before I begin begging, I need to make sure of something with you."

"You're a troublesome one, but I'm in a good mood." Yulissa chuckled. "When I'm in a good mood, I have a little more patience for you, so speak."

Winnie took in a deep breath. "I have no other requests but one. I just want to make sure that you'll send Christopher to the hospital after I beg you for it."

"Oh, so that's what you want." Yulissa touched her nails. “You'll have to beg first. I'll need to replace out whether or not you're sincere about it. If you're doing this half-heartedly, I'll have to do that half-heartedly too But if you satisfy me, I'll send him to the hospital."

"Okay," Winnie answered without hesitation. "How can I make you satisfied? Do you want me to kneel before you?"

"Hm..." Yulissa nodded in contemplation. "That sounds good too. I doubt you've ever gone down on your knees before anyone and before today. Still, I don't think it's fascinating. Why don't we do something else?"

"What is it? I'll agree to anything."

"Wow, you're quick to say yes even though you haven't heard what I wanted," Yulissa said as she inched toward Winnie.

Then, she lifted her arm to caress Winnie's face before pulling out a hairpin from her hair.

"I remember you using this thing to scratch my face the other time. My, it'll be fun to see your pretty face get scratched too. Still, this is too bloody, and I don't want to do it myself. Can you do it yourself? Once you wreck this pretty face of yours, beg for forgiveness. Then, I'll send Christopher to the hospital. How does that sound? Why are you staring at me? Have you lost your courage to do that? That's fine. Just let Christopher die. After all, he's a nobody. How can his life be of any worth in comparison with your beautiful face, righ—"

Before Yulissa could finish her last word, Winnie agreed to it. "Okay, I'll do it! I'll do as you say!"

"Tsk, swift decision from you. If you hadn't competed against me for Xavier at the start, I would have admired you," Yulissa said with faked wistfulness as she unlocked one of Winnie's cuffs.

Upon putting the hairpin on Winnie's hand, she excitedly said, "Come on, destroy your face in front of me with your own hand and hairpin. But you have to wait until I tell you to start. I need to check if this angle is perfect or not first."

With that, Yulissa quickly retreated, not allowing Winnie any chance to attack her.

Winnie tightened her grip on the hairpin and curled her lips. "Okay, I'll heed your words."

"Haha!" Yulissa barked out. "Of course you have to heed my words. Even if you don't want to save Christopher-even if we're not playing this game-you're still an easy target that I can do anything to. But that's boring. Not thrilling enough. All right, let's begin. This is my first time as a director; I don't have much experience. I pray you can finish this in one go, or else you'll be the one to suffer. Right, let's do something even more exciting. Take off your clothes. What a waste it'll be to not film your magnificent figure."

Winnie swallowed. "Is this how you're planning to take revenge on me?"

"No, no. This isn't revenge." Yulissa chuckled. "This is humiliation. I once told you that you'd never be as good as me when it comes to tricks and schemes, so stop your pointless talk, will you? You're making me run out of patience. Do you really want me to strip you myself?"

Winnie's forehead creased. "I don't need you to do anything."

With that, she pulled apart the first button on her shirt with the hairpin.

Then, the second button came undone.

Right then, someone smashed open the basement door.
