Since the bodyguard had opened up an opportunity for Winnie to rescind her request, she changed her tune. “Ah, I'm sorry, Handsome. I forgot your leg's injured. I don't want you to carry me anymore. How about I carry you instead?"

As she spoke, she bent down in front of Xavier.

He patted her head. There was a look of affection, joy of regaining something precious back, and possessiveness in his eyes. "There's no way you can carry me on your back, Dumbo."

"Then I'll help you walk!" Winnie couldn't bear to let him carry her with a broken leg, so she reluctantly decided to be nice to him.

"What should we do with him, Mr. Fairchild?" The bodyguard pointed at Hayden.

Xavier's glance landed on Winnie first before he said, "Teach him a lesson that he'll never forget. The rest will wait after we leave the island."

"Understood!" The bodyguard promptly dragged Hayden to a remote location.

With Winnie's and the driver's combined help, Xavier was able to leave the beach.

The driver directly sent him and Winnie to the local hospital.

Initially, she didn't want to visit the doctor, but Xavier insisted. Additionally, when the doctor was giving her a checkup, he was guarding the door outside. Despite his severe leg injury, he refused to go first.

It wasn't until the result of her check-up had been released that his tightly furrowed eyebrows relaxed.

Winnie acted pitifully when she saw him. "My shoulder is in pain, Handsome. I want you to blow my pain away."

Basically, she wanted him to blow on her injury as though she was a child playing house.

Even though it was childish, Xavier went along with it without hesitation after the look in his eyes darkened. "Okay, I'll do that after we go back."

Winnie stared at him silently. Something's not right. When I teased him in the past, he'd at least try to hold himself back. Now, it seems like he has changed, as though he had been freed from an invisible shackle.

"Are you feeling pain anywhere else?" He gripped her hand tightly and focused all his attention on her face.

With a silly smile, she shook her head. "No. The doctor said I'm fine."

"Good." Xavier gently touched her face. "It seems like Hayden didn't do much to you."

What he said sounded really weird to her, even though there didn't seem to be anything off about the statement on the surface.

"Now it's your turn to have your leg examined, Handsome." Winnie hugged his arm and tried to push his wheelchair into the emergency room from earlier.

He smiled. "I need to go to the orthopedics department to treat my broken leg, silly. When I go inside for a checkup, just wait outside and don't go anywhere else, okay?"

Her eyes sparkled as she nodded. "Okay!"

After arriving at the orthopedics department, the driver was going to accompany Xavier. However, he was asked to leave the room by the latter.

"I want you to keep a close eye on her. Get a nurse to follow her if she goes into the restroom," Xavier ordered.

Winnie did need to relieve herself. So, soon after he went into the doctor's office, she went to the restroom.

Before she returned, Xavier's bodyguard arrived.

It was then Xavier exited the room because he needed to go for an X-ray soon.

When the bodyguard saw his employer, he immediately approached him.

"How's Hayden?" Xavier asked.

"He told me everything, including things that he probably shouldn't." Since the information was pretty private, the bodyguard bent down and whispered into his employer's ear. "Mrs. Fairchild... She was bought by the Briggs family two days ago. It matches the information Calvert gave us. It seems like he's not lying to us on that part. Also, according to Hayden, he had already..." The bodyguard found it difficult to finish the sentence.

As Xavier's eyebrows furrowed, he had a pretty good guess of what the bodyguard was saying. With a darkened expression, he urged, "Continue."

A troubled look was visible on the bodyguard's face as he continued, "H-He said he had slept with her. Not only that, he often treated her violently. Two of her fingers were broken, and there are injuries on her legs."

"Her fingers were broken, and there are injuries on her legs?" Xavier frowned. "What about her shoulder? Did he mention an injury on the shoulder?"

"That..." The bodyguard pondered and replied, "No, he didn't."

"Aside from the Briggs family, did anyone on the island see the mentally disabled wife Hayden bought?"

"No. According to Hayden, he had been keeping her in the house since he bought her. When people asked about her, he would say she was introduced by a matchmaker. So, the islanders should have never seen her face before until today on the beach."

"Okay, got it." Xavier tapped his finger on his knees instinctively as he fell into deep thought. Dumbo didn't have any other injuries aside from the one on her shoulder, though. There were no signs of her fingers being broken.

"Also, I've set up a new phone on my way back here, Mr. Fairchild. Do you want to give Mr. Tanser a call?"

"Yes."

The call soon connected. Louis immediately knew it was from Xavier. "Hello? Is that you, Mr. Fairchild? Are you all right?"

"Yes, it's me. I'm all right." Xavier put the phone next to his ear. "There was a minor incident last night, and we had to board a fishing vessel. Are you all still on the sea?"

"Yes. I arrived at the destination on time, but I still didn't see you or anyone else when the ship left. I was worried that something had happened to you, so I've been looking around. Someone called for the coast guard because they were on the move, but I don't know who. However, they didn't replace anything, so I thought something had happened to you. Where are you right now? Do I need to send someone to pick you up?"

"No need." Xavier ordered, "All you need to do is cooperate with the coast guard to look for me. If they can't replace my body within forty-eight hours, they'll declare me missing. During that period, you just need to keep a close eye on Fairchild Corporation and report everything Stuart and Zyon do to me."

"So, you're saying we should use this opportunity to bait them?"

"That's right. Just do as I say. Also, Calvert is a mole. If you replace him, tell me where he is."

"Detective Wood is someone working under Zyon's family?" That revelation shocked Louis. "What about Mrs. Fairchild? Do I need to send more people to replace her?"

"No need. Just do what I said earlier."

Once the call ended, Xavier didn't immediately go to the X-ray room. Instead, he sat in his wheelchair and waited for Winnie's return.

His appearance and demeanor were so exceptional that just by sitting there, with a wooden board attached to his calf, he was able to attract a lot of attention, especially from the ladies.

The moment Winnie left the restroom, she saw a pretty young woman asking him for his contact number.

Thus, she stood and watched the scene play out silently. I'm curious about what he'll do. In the past, he refused to let Yulissa or me, when I was playing as his caretaker, touch him. He said he would only let his wife touch him. Now that a young, pretty lady is asking him for his contact when his wife isn't around, how will he deal with this?

Seconds later, she saw Xavier close his eyes coldly and ignore the woman. He didn't even utter a phrase or a word of rejection.

It wasn't hurtful, but it was humiliating.

The young woman didn't want to give up as she coquettishly showed him her QR code. "Come on, handsome. It's just WhatsApp. Don't worry. I absolutely won't disturb―"

Before she could finish her sentence, he slapped her phone to the ground.

Winnie was baffled. He's still the same guy I remember. Back when I tried to take off his shirt while pretending as a caretaker, he slapped me. Guess now I know what "keeping oneself pure" means.
