Silly Bride novel (Winnie and Xavier) -
Chapter 76
However, that's not good enough. More testing is needed to see if he really doesn't mind that his wife is a mentally challenged woman. Winnie shook away her interest in watching the drama and hopped toward Xavier.
"Did the doctor check your leg, Handsome? Can you walk now?" she asked innocently as she almost pulled him up.
As he stared at Winnie, confusion filled his mind.
Even though he wanted to ask his questions, he found it difficult to do so.
That was because he was afraid if he did, he would lose her again.
At that moment, he only wanted Winnie to stay by his side.
He didn't want to go back to the days when he felt empty and couldn't see the light at the end of a very dark tunnel.
"No, I can't walk yet." Xavier's eyes were fixed on her as he uttered in a hoarse and deep voice. He appeared as though he didn't want to look away from her.
"However, you can sit on me. Even if I'm in a wheelchair right now, I can still take you to wherever you want to go." As he spoke, he suddenly pulled her hand, intending to make her sit on his lap in front of everyone.
That stunt shocked her. This is the hospital, not Lagune Mansion! Is he so shameless that he's willing to ignore all the people coming in and out of the hospital?
"No, I'll hurt you, Handsome! I want to sit on a chair!" Winnie exclaimed and immediately sat on a nearby chair.
The young woman who was asking for Xavier's WhatsApp earlier immediately approached Winnie. "Hey, sweetie, is he your brother?"
"Mmhm!" Winnie nodded. "That's right, pretty lady. He's my Handsome!"
The young woman briefly studied Winnie with curiosity before she noticed something was off about Winnie. "Why are you talking like that? You don't seem that much younger compared to me. But, whatever. Since you're his sister, you can call me whatever you want. How about we become friends?"
Of course, Winnie understood what the woman was trying to do. The woman didn't want to give up on Xavier and wanted to use her as a way to get closer to him.
"Sure!" A bright smile appeared on Winnie's face. "However, if you want to be my friend, you have to buy candy for me."
"No problem. It's just candy. You can have as much as you want!" the young woman gleefully agreed.
Xavier's expression darkened as he listened to the conversation at the side. I can't believe my Dumbo is going to sell me out for a few pieces of candy!
Displeasure filled his heart before he immediately reached his hand out toward her. "Come here. Don't sit so far away from me."
Winnie blinked at him before turning to the young lady.
Then she apologized in a tender tone, "I'm sorry, but Handsome is calling for me."
Xavier instantly frowned and abruptly corrected her in a serious manner. "Winnie, don't call me that in the future. You need to call me Hubby. Remember, I am your husband." That rendered Winnie speechless.
The young woman was shocked. "What? You two are married?"
"What?" He was pretty pissed when he heard the young woman's doubt. "Do I need to show you our marriage certificate?"
"No..." The young woman turned to Winnie, slightly dumbstruck. "You should've said something if you're married to him! Why did you say he's your brother? Are you messing with me? Is that funny to you two?" "Watch your tone!" Xavier stared at the young woman coldly. "Who do you think you're talking to?"
In an instant, his cold and intimidating aura shook her.
Even though his appearance did not change, she felt as if he had suddenly become another person who was filled with murderous intent.
While she didn't have the guts to stay any longer, she was still pretty upset.
Before she left, she muttered, "I can't believe a handsome man like him has a mentally challenged woman as a wife!"
Despite her tiny voice, Xavier still heard what she said. No one insults my wife, especially in front of me!
Before anyone could react to the situation, he suddenly stood up from his wheelchair and grabbed the back of the young woman's neck.
"Apologize to my wife right now." He tightened his grip. "I won't allow anyone to insult my wife. You're a woman, so I'm not going to hit you so easily. However, I have a hundred other ways to teach you how to be a better person."
The young woman didn't expect the man sitting in the wheelchair could stand up, much less act that violently.
Fear struck her heart. "Okay, I'll apologize. Please just let me go."
Xavier pushed the young woman toward Winnie. "Apologize to her right now!"
"I'm sorry!" the young woman apologized in front of Winnie without delay. "I shouldn't have badmouthed you like that. Please forgive me!"
Winnie imperceptibly raised her eyebrow. While her eyes were sparkling, and she was smiling, her tone was undeniably authoritative. "It's no problem. You just need to watch your mouth next time. Otherwise, Handsome may just beat you up. One time, someone came to my room to bully me, and he was sent to the hospital after Handsome beat him up."
With the most innocent tone, she uttered the most violent words. With Winnie's and Xavier's good cop, bad cop act, they were able to scare the young woman away. Winnie was quite satisfied with Xavier's performance.
In reality, she always thought he was a pretty good man. Aside from that time when he brought Yulissa back, she didn't notice anything particularly bad about him. After having the plaster reapplied on his leg, Xavier brought Winnie to a seaside mansion.
That shocked Winnie. With the amount of money he has, shouldn't he have booked a cruise ship taking us back to the city? Why are we here at a mansion? She stood behind Xavier's wheelchair and stared at the sea through the floor-to-ceiling window. "Is this your house too, Handsome? Are we living here?" "No, but I can buy this place if you like," he answered.
The window faintly reflected her face. Thus, when he stared at the window, he felt as though he saw her eyebrows were furrowing for a moment.
She clearly didn't look like a mentally disabled woman when there were noticeable emotional changes on her face. It was different from how she was before. "Did you remember what I told you at the hospital earlier, Winnie?" Xavier said.
"Which one?" There were a lot of things he said in the hospital, so Winnie had no idea what he was referring to.
"That we're a couple, and I'm your husband. Do you remember that?"
