Sir, Madam Dispeared Again After Divorce!
Chapter 729 Mrs. Madden Was Hurt

Julien's eyes flickered. He hugged Sydney tighter. "It's okay. I just thought of something, but it's nothing important." "Okay." Sydney snuggled quietly into his arms. Since Julien said so, Sydney stopped asking.

Although she sensed that something was on Julien's mind, since he didn't want to talk about it, she wouldn't ask.

"Okay. I'm going to make a phone call. We'll have lunch together later." Then Julien released Sydney.

Sydney got up from his lap and nodded, "Okay, go ahead. I'm going to call Hunter and thank him."

"Don't talk to him for too long. Just thank him and that's all." Hearing that Sydney was going to call Hunter, Julien stopped, turned around, and warned her. Certainly, Sydney knew why Julien said that. He didn't like her talking to other men for too long.

Any time Sydney was on the phone with Luke, Julien had to keep an eye on her, not to mention Hunter.

Sydney waved her hand with a wry smile, "All right. Go make the call."

As Sydney urged him, Julien had to head for the balcony.

But he stopped after a few steps and warned, "Remember, don't talk to him for too long. Even if he keeps talking, ignore him and just hang up." Sydney rolled her eyes at him and waved her hand.

Julien then turned back and went to the balcony.

Watching Julien standing on the balcony, Sydney shook her head with a silent smile. Then she picked up her phone and dialed Hunter's number. Julien closed the balcony window and made a phone call.

The call was quickly answered. A timid, cautious female voice answered, "Mr. Flint..."

"Did you see the press conference today?" Julien placed one hand on the balcony railing, looked out at the city, and asked in a cold voice.

On the other end of the line, Clarice nodded her head and replied, "Yes."

As she watched the press conference, she realized the seriousness of the situation and rushed to the hospital.

As she expected, Brandon and his wife became suspicious of Sydney's identity after watching the press conference.

Clarice even learned the secret in her mother's mind.

If Clarice hadn't overheard Brandon and his wife's conversation, she wouldn't have known that Mrs. Madden had been pretending to care for and love her. Mrs. Madden once said that even though she knew Clarice was her daughter, she couldn't really get close to her emotionally, but she had to act like she loved her in order not to hurt her.

Brandon and his wife didn't know the truth, but Clarice did.

It wasn't that Mrs. Madden couldn't be close to Clarice, but that the woman wanted to be close to her real daughter, not Clarice, the fake one.

Because Mrs. Madden did not know that Clarice was faking her daughter, the woman could only pretend to love Clarice.

Clarice couldn't understand why blood mattered so much.

Hearing Clarice's answer, Julien narrowed his eyes, "Since you watched the press conference, you should know that Sydney's personal information that she exposed at the press conference would make Brandon suspicious of her identity. Now Brandon has begun to suspect it, and he has someone looking into it. I need you to go to the hospital right away and dispel Brandon's suspicions. He can't continue to investigate Sydney's identity. Do you understand me?"

"Yes, I understand that, Mr. Flint," Clarice responded with a deep breath, "Don't worry, I know what to do. I won't let Dad continue to investigate the matter."

If Brandon kept on investigating the matter, he might replace out that Sydney was his daughter.

Then Clarice would be in trouble.

"Good. Go ahead." Julien lifted his chin slightly and hung up the phone.

Clarice took the phone off her ear. Looking at the phone screen, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Then she put the phone away and headed to Brandon's ward.

Arriving at the ward, Clarice knocked on the door.

Soon, a weak voice rang out, "Come in."

Clarice bit her lower lip and gently turned the door handle.

The door opened. Clarice pushed in and murmured, her head bowed, "Dad, Mom."

At the sound of Clarice's voice, Brandon and his wife looked up quickly.

Seeing Clarice, Brandon remembered what had happened earlier. He coughed awkwardly, "Clarice, you're back."

"Clarice," Mrs. Madden called out, putting down the bowl and spoon in her hand. She stood up from the bed and forced an awkward smile at Clarice.

Clarice nodded in response.

Mrs. Madden walked up to Clarice and asked, "Where have you been? I went out to chase you, but I couldn't catch up with you. You ran away so quickly. I was so worried about you."

As Mrs. Madden said this, she reached out to take Clarice's hand.

But Clarice's eyes twinkled. She deliberately acted as if she was hurt. She moved her hand away from Mrs. Madden's reach to take it.

Mrs. Madden's face stiffened, and her hand froze in the air. Forgetting to withdraw her hand, Mrs. Madden looked embarrassed and confused. Apparently, she did not expect Clarice to avoid her.

Immediately, Mrs. Madden's eyes were reddened. She felt sad and guilty. She knew why Clarice had suddenly behaved this way.

'Clarice must be sad about what I said earlier.'

'Indeed, what I said was so harsh. How could Clarice let it go so easily?'

'After all, Clarice had suffered so much in more than twenty years. She finally came back to us. But I said that my love for her was feigned and that I couldn't get close to her as if there was always a barrier between us. How can a daughter take that?'

Therefore, Mrs. Madden could understand Clarice's attitude toward her.

But somehow, she still couldn't feel close to Clarice in her heart.

However, Mrs. Madden would not talk about it or let anyone know about it again. Afterward, she would try to change herself and accept Clarice.

With that in mind, Mrs. Madden withdrew her hand and looked at Clarice, her eyes wet with tears.

"Clarice..."

Clarice still kept her head down and didn't say anything.

She knew that Mrs. Madden now felt guilty and that she wanted to apologize.

But at that moment, Clarice could not accept it. She must pretend she didn't want to face Mrs. Madden.

If she forgave Mrs. Madden so easily, the guilt in Mrs. Madden's heart would lessen or even disappear. Then Mrs. Madden would forget that she hurt Clarice.

Therefore, Clarice would not forgive Mrs. Madden so easily. She would distance herself from Mrs. Madden and make Mrs. Madden feel guilty all the time. Only then would Mrs. Madden care more about her. With this in mind, Clarice walked past Mrs. Madden toward Brandon with her head down.

Mrs. Madden's eyes widened, and her eyes became more reddened. Her eyes welled up with tears. Immediately, she burst into tears. She turned around. Watching Clarice ignore her as she walked toward Brandon, Mrs. Madden called out in pain, "Clarice, you..."

"Dad, I want to talk to you." Clarice cut Mrs. Madden off and said.

Brandon had been doing business for decades. Surely, he could see that Clarice didn't want to talk to her mother.

His wife had really broken Clarice's heart.

He was not happy to see his wife upset like this.

But he couldn't take a side with his wife or his daughter. If he took anyone's side, he would hurt the other one.

"Well..." Brandon sighed. He was in a dilemma.

He rubbed his temples and looked at Clarice. "What do you want to tell me?"
