Sir, Madam Dispeared Again After Divorce!
Chapter 730 Clarice Fooled Brandon

Clarice did not speak but glanced at Mrs. Madden.

It was obvious that she wanted Mrs. Madden to go out and talk to Brandon alone.

After understanding Clarice's meaning, Mrs. Madden's face turned pale. She felt more miserable inside, but still, she forced a smile, "Clarice, I'm your mom. Can't I listen to your conversation with your dad?" Clarice looked away and avoided Mrs. Madden's gaze.

Clarice's behavior was like a knife stabbing in Mrs. Madden's heart. It hurt so much that she couldn't breathe.

'Clarice doesn't want to talk to me, to look at me, or to let me hear their conversation.'

'She...'

Mrs. Madden covered her face and began to sob.

Seeing this, Brandon, who had been staying out of the situation, frowned. He was not happy with Clarice.

He understood that what his wife had said earlier had broken Clarice's heart, so he did not intervene when Clarice threw a tantrum with her mom. But now, he felt that Clarice had gone too far.

Although Mrs. Madden's words did hurt Clarice, she cared for Clarice even though she pretended to.

Although Mrs. Madden could not get close to her daughter emotionally, she tried her best. Brandon thought his wife had done enough for Clarice.

He thought it was justifiable for Clarice to be angry with her mom for a while, but she didn't have to behave that way all the time.

As Brandon thought about this, his tone became stern, "Okay, Clarice, this is your mom. Even if she did something wrong, you can't keep resenting her. She's been doing her best to take care of you since you came home."

Sensing the annoyance in Brandon's tone, Clarice lowered her head and kept silent, and her eyes twinkled.

Brandon stopped talking to Clarice. He turned to Mrs. Madden, his face milder and his tone soft, "All right. Give us a second. You both need to calm down. You should talk after you've calmed down." Mrs. Madden looked at Clarice and then nodded, "Okay."

Then she turned and hesitantly walked toward the door.

Soon, only Brandon and Clarice were left in the room, and the door was closed.

Brandon rubbed his brows and said to Clarice, who hung her head down, "I know you're still mad at your mom for what she said earlier, and I know your mom was wrong, but you've only been back a few months after you've been apart from us for over twenty years. Your mom hasn't quite gotten used to it yet, so she doesn't feel close to you. But she loves you in her heart. You should understand her. Go talk to your mom later. Get things straight. How can you keep distancing yourself from your mom?"

"Okay, Dad." Clarice bit her lower lip and grunted.

Clarice had intended to stay distant from Mrs. Madden for a few days, so Mrs. Madden would be more concerned about her.

However, Brandon was unhappy with Clarice due to her temper tantrums with her mom. Clarice then realized that although she was their daughter, her mom was more important to Brandon.

Between Clarice and Mrs. Madden, Brandon would definitely take his wife's side. If Clarice continued to detach herself from Mrs. Madden, Brandon would be angry with her. That was not good for her. Hearing Clarice's answer, Brandon nodded and showed a satisfied smile on his haggard face. "That's right! All right! What do you want to talk to me about?"

Clarice clenched her palms and said hesitantly, "Dad, do you suspect Sydney is your daughter, so you had someone look into her background?" Brandon's face turned grim. He stared at Clarice with hawk-like eyes and asked, "How do you know I had Sydney investigated?"

Clarice was frank, "Mr. Flint told me. He's gotten back together to Sydney. He is following everything about Sydney, so he knows you are investigating Sydney. He guessed you investigated Sydney because you suspected she was your daughter, so he called me. He asked me to tell you to stop investigating Sydney and that there was no way Sydney was your daughter."

"Huh... That's none of his business." Brandon sneered.

Clarice rolled her eyes and then stomped her foot. Her eyes welled up with tears, and her voice choked, "Dad, I don't understand why you would suspect Sydney is your daughter. I am your daughter! We took a paternity test! Why do you think Sydney is your daughter? You don't believe in the paternity test? You don't believe I'm your daughter? You want your daughter to be someone else?"

At her complaint, Brandon panicked. He waved his hands, "Clarice... I... I became suspicious because I saw that the date Sydney was adopted was close to the date you were taken away from us. I..."

"So what? Is it more convincing than the paternity test? You've seen the paternity test results. I am Clarice, but you suspect Sydney is your daughter and have it investigated because of a date. Do you have any idea how terrible I feel?" Clarice interrupted him and burst into tears.

Brandon felt guilty. He let out a cough and hurriedly apologized, "I'm sorry, Clarice. I've been out of my mind. I'm not going to investigate Sydney again."

"You promise?" Clarice looked at him with teary eyes.

Brandon immediately nodded, "I promise."

Clarice sniffled, "Okay. I believe you. But you must tell your men to stop the investigation. If others learn about it, they'll be sure to make up stories."

"OK, I'll make a call and tell them to stop the investigation right away." Brandon then picked up his phone.

A glimmer flashed across Clarice's eyes. "Okay. I'm going out. I'll go talk to Mom."

"Okay." Brandon waved his hand.

Clarice wiped the corners of her eyes. She curled the corners of her mouth the moment she turned around. The sullen expression on her face was gone. She was relieved. Brandon's suspicions about Sydney's identity were gone, and he wouldn't be investigating any further, so Clarice could continue to pretend to be the Maddens' daughter.

Clarice's eyes lit up. She took out her phone and sent a message to Julien.

After sending the message, Clarice grabbed the door handle and opened the door.

On the other hand, Julien had just finished smoking a cigarette when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

He flicked the ashes, extinguished the cigarette, and took the phone out.

Seeing Clarice's message, he eased up.

Then he deleted the message, put the phone in his pocket, and turned back to Sydney's office.

Sydney had already finished talking to Hunter. She was sitting on the couch making coffee. At the sound of footsteps, she looked up and gave a bright smile, "You have finished?"
