-Date?! What do you mean, a date? -He looks at her with a slight frown.

-You know what, forget it, I’m going home.” Oliva makes a move to leave, but Caleb stops her by the arm.

-Wait, please.

-What does he want? It’s not enough for him to get me wet with dirty water, for him to keep this up.

Suddenly, the damp breeze that was barely felt was getting a little heavier. And out of nowhere, a reluctant rain suddenly poured down on the city.

Olivia stared at the sky with her mouth open, it couldn’t get any worse that day… now she was completely soaked.

-Come with me.

And without waiting for it, Caleb grabbed her hand and took her running to who knows where. Olivia didn’t understand what was going on, until she suddenly found herself inside a rather luxurious car.

She looked around the interior of the car carefully, she had never in her life been in a car as fancy as that one. Well, her life had been spent only in buses, but nothing like that car.

Then she looked next to her, and noticed that the man was looking at her as if she had lost her mind. Of course, she was soaking wet, and I’m sure her hair was a tangle of straw.

-Why did you bring me here?

-It’s raining outside, it was the nearest place to protect us from the rain.

-Well, I don’t need it, I’m wet enough as it is. A little more water won’t do me any harm,” he answers petulantly.

-And how were you planning to get home, I doubt they’d let you get on the bus dripping wet like that?

-I’m on my way, Mr. Palmer. So, if you don’t mind, I’ll be on my way.” He tries to open the door, but then she hears the sound of the lock go by and turns to look at him. What do you think you’re doing?

-I can’t let you go out in this rain.

She blinks repeatedly, and if her mouth was open, of course it was. This man she didn’t even know was locking her in his car, strangely enough she wasn’t thinking that he was out to hurt her. But she was scared to death, but not that he would do anything bad to her, rather, her heart valve was pumping more b***d than usual into her body.

For God’s sake, she was going to collapse if she didn’t get out of that car… Olivia swallows and sits properly in her seat.

-I appreciate your kindness, but you don’t need to help me. The truth is, I’m going to be fine.

She tried to be more subtle with him, maybe arrogant women are not nice to him and that’s why he was being a perfect jerk by wanting to keep her in his car.

-Olivia’s b***d began to boil, even if he was being nice he wouldn’t let her go.

-You have no right to keep me locked in this car, I demand that you unlock the door and let me out,” She didn’t want to be cute anymore, that didn’t work with this guy.

-No, I won’t let you out. Just look at the storm that’s coming down, I wouldn’t be a gentleman if I let you walk home in this rain.

-I don’t care if you feel guilty or not, you ruined my day, if you hadn’t driven like a madman I wouldn’t be in this predicament. So you owe me one, so I’m asking you to take off the insurance and let me go.

-That’s right, I’ve ruined your clothes. He’s right, I owe him one…” Olivia sees him holding the steering wheel, wondering what the guy was thinking. I’ll pay him for my fault.

-What do you mean?

-I’ll take her home.

-What does he say?

And with those words said, Caleb starts the car without waiting for an answer from Olivia. He starts the car and they drive to the brunette’s building.

After a few minutes and a few blocks, Caleb’s car parks in front of Olivia’s building. The rain wasn’t letting up, which is why he still hadn’t unlocked the door. He was aware that he didn’t lock the door because he didn’t want her to keep getting wet, but deep down he was also trying to hide the fact that he didn’t want her to get out of the car.

-She opens the door, but it won’t budge. She looks straight ahead as she purses her lips. Now why don’t you unlock the door?

-It’s still raining,” she points to the dripping glass.

-My house is over there, I can’t get any wetter than I already am,” she answers more irritated than ever.

-I’d rather we wait for the rain to come down.

-What a stubborn man,” she picks at the bridge of her nose. I can’t see any reason for him to keep me here, not when I’m soaking wet.

Caleb keeps a smile on his face, he was really getting on her nerves. He didn’t deny it, it was fun to watch her explode with rage. Of course, everyone has a limit, and he wasn’t so sure he wanted to see her reach his.

-You’d better warm up a bit with the car heater, when the weather clears up a bit, you can leave.

-I don’t understand why she’s doing all this,” he crosses his arms.

Olivia was starting to warm up, a moment ago, she was starting to freeze. She looks out the window and notices that the damn rain won’t let up, is she never going to get out of that car? she asks herself. Being near this man made her very nervous. If she was made of jelly at first, by then she had completely melted.

By then, Olivia didn’t even turn around to look at him. It was just the two of them, alone in that car, for God’s sake, it was too intimate.

Her hair stood on end, and it wasn’t from the cold, it was from the nerves that were overwhelming her. How could she be so close to someone she was attracted to and not say a word to him, and all she could open her mouth for was to argue with him.

-Where was she going, when she…? -Caleb hushes his words. Well, was she going to do something important? -He was very curious, he still couldn’t get what she said about the date out of his head.

-Yes, I was going to do something very important. And because of her, I couldn’t do anything anymore.

-I’m so sorry, Olivia. I didn’t mean to, I was distracted and I didn’t tell myself that the street was full of water, and I didn’t see you either. I know that…

-A careless person, that’s what he is… he ruined an important day for me, and I’ll never have another one like this again.

-Do you want me to help you sort it out? I can talk to that person you were going on that date with and try to…

-What?

Olivia looks at him like he’s lost his mind, what was he thinking? She wondered, did he think he could solve everything because he had a lot of money? Or because he was an influential person?

It didn’t take away from the fact that he was being quite cordial with her, and no wonder. But she didn’t want his help, though of course she should accept it and make the most of it. However, she wanted to earn things on her own merits. Not because someone with influence would lend her a hand.

He had got that job call on his own, and not because that millionaire got his hands on it.

-It’s not necessary, I can sort it out.

-Are you sure you had an appointment? Or did you just say that to make me feel bad?

-Of course I didn’t lie,” she answers dumbfounded.

-Then why hasn’t anyone called you since we’ve been talking?

-What do you mean?

-I don’t think your date cares much about you, he hasn’t bothered to know where you are or how you’re doing. And it’s still raining cats and dogs.

Olivia’s eyes widen enormously, he was thinking her date was with a man. For heaven’s sake! One of those dates.

The brunette wanted to laugh out loud, but on the one hand she didn’t want to disprove Caleb’s theory. She wanted to see if the fact that he thought she had a boyfriend would get him off her back, and she’d stop looking like a caricature everywhere she went.

But was that what she wanted?

Did she want to get him off her back and never see him again?

The fierce pounding of her heart went wild again, and she could have sworn her cheeks reddened.
