So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 11
Spending all day on the streets didn’t do her any good, apart from not replaceing another job, it turned out that her ex-boss had left a very bad recommendation about her. And every place she visited she was told no, because the damn Atlantis hotel was so famous. Having a bad review from him was the worst.
Her brain was fused, she couldn’t think of anywhere else to go to apply for a job. Well, at least not for that day, besides, she was tired of being rejected. The best thing to do was to go home, rest and believe that the next day would be better.
-It’s only the first day, I still have time to replace something decent.
Olivia stands up as she watches the bus dropping her off close to home approaching, but she couldn’t betray her brain. She was aware that the money wouldn’t last long, and although her inner self was screaming for her to calm down, she found it difficult to do so.
However, with her worries on her mind, she would keep looking until she found something. At that, Olivia looks out the window of the bus and a few streets ahead she could see the impressive Atlantis sign.
She let out her breath, it would be her last option, and the truth is that she wasn’t willing to take that option. She would do anything to solve her problems on her own. The brunette looks away, and out of nowhere she remembers Caleb, anxiety makes her bite her lips and then deny.
She reproaches herself internally…
[…]Even though he’s been stuck in the office all day, he hasn’t received a call from Olivia at any point. He should be relieved, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t call him any other day.
Caleb rubs the hundred, just as his personal phone starts ringing. A startle whips his heart, and he fidgets as he pulls his phone out of his pocket and glances at the screen, then lets out his breath.
One of those days, he was going to die, but with a start…
[…]The next morning came like a flash, Olivia woke up eager for her day to be productive. As she ate her breakfast, she glanced at the notebook where she kept Caleb’s card. She chewed her food slowly, as she thought about what kind of job the man might propose.
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, well, that much was obvious. He wouldn’t offer her a job with horrible pay, he had enough money to stipulate a fairly moderate salary. The brunette swallowed without taking her eyes off her notebook.
-Hell no, I’m not desperate enough to call him. I’ve only been here a day and I already want to talk to him.
She hadn’t even taken the time to look for a good job on her own, and besides, her intentions to call him weren’t just about the job. She was aware that she wanted to see him too, she couldn’t play dirty with her mind, she did want to see Caleb.
-For God’s sake, Olivia. You’ve lost your mind.” He stands up, half-finished plate in his hands. Stop thinking about bullshit, that man wouldn’t look at you for anything in the world. You’re no match for him, girl.
She puts the plate in the sink and thinks that what she should do is go out and look for a job and forget that Caleb and his proposal exist.
-And I know what I have to do.
He turns around, takes the card out of the notebook. Then she turns on the cooker and puts the card on the stove, but just then her phone starts ringing. Immediately, Olivia turned off the cooker and ran out to answer it.
The call was important, she was being called for an interview for a job she had applied for a long time ago. She even forgot that she had left her details there, but that wasn’t important, what mattered was that she was being called for an interview that morning.
The moment she hung up, she ran to her room to look for a suitable outfit. She needed to make the best impression and get the job.
But bad luck was determined to follow her, just as she was leaving the building, a drizzle began to fall. She wasn’t going to let that stupid rain ruin her chance, she was going to keep her appointment anyway.
After dodging the rain, and keeping her hair from becoming a tangle of straw, Olivia was only a block away from her destination. And best of all, she was arriving at a good time. The bus dropped her off a bit far, so she had to walk to the building.
Luckily, the rain had eased off a bit, allowing her to walk without any problems. However, there was still a damp breeze blowing, which she didn’t like, and the floor was quite wet, so she had to be careful. In the building’s bathroom she could sort out her hair and check any imperfections in her clothes.
Olivia looked at the building in front of her, she just needed to cross the street and she would be there. She noticed some cars coming in that direction, so she waited for them to pass. The cars passed slowly, and when she thought there were no more cars coming, she made an attempt to cross, but out of nowhere came a speeding car.
Instinct led the brunette to back up, but what she didn’t count on was the speed of the car. It went so fast down the street that the seemingly harmless puddle on the road completely soaked her clothes.
The brunette stood motionless on the spot with her hands raised. Dirty water dripped from her face, eventually dripping onto her clothes, Olivia’s tears were about to well up in her eyes as she stared carefully at the building before her. At that moment, she thought her chance at a new job had gone to shit.
She didn’t want to do it, but it was necessary for her to see how bad it was. The brunette looks down and notices that all of her clothes were splashed with water, and it’s okay if it was just white water, that was blackened water. She eventually lowers her arms, holding back tears.
She looked up and saw the direction that car had gone, and realised that it had slowed down and stopped the traffic. She thought that it was a damn person driving that car, and prayed to heaven that the owner would get out of the car and tell her how bad she was going to die. So Olivia stood there, staring at that car.
[…]It couldn’t be true, was it her, was it Olivia, Caleb was looking in the rearview mirror of his car at this girl who was still standing there staring right at his car.
-Shit, it can’t be. It’s her!
He was so distracted checking his mobile phone that he didn’t notice her standing on the pavement, so fast that he didn’t notice that the street was flooded with water. He had bathed her in dirty water.
-For God’s sake.
Noticing that he had a line of cars behind him, he pulls over, parking the car on the other side of the curb. Caleb then gets out of the car and notices that it really was her.
The CEO walks towards Olivia, but not before motioning to his bodyguard to get back in the car. He obeyed and Caleb kept moving, she didn’t move from where she was, and every time he approached Olivia, he noticed that all of her clothes were a mess.
-Olivia, I… I didn’t tell me you were off to the side and… I’m so sorry.
-You! -She accuses him with her finger. You’re the one to blame for all this.
-Listen to me, it wasn’t intentional. I’ve been…
-You drove like a crazy maniac on a street where you shouldn’t even be running, do you think this is a highway? How could you even think of driving in such a careless way? Look what you’ve done to me, you’ve ruined my clothes, my date, everything.
It was unbelievable, she was so surprised, it was that idiot Caleb who ruined her day. It had to be him. It couldn’t be anyone else, but precisely that man she was avoiding seeing. The urge to cry that she’d had a moment ago was gone, all replaced by anger. She just wanted to kill him so badly.
Caleb watched as Olivia looked at him very annoyed, and it was no wonder all her clothes were a mess…
