So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 23
Then he remembered the mess he had made of his hair the day before, and that was when he detailed it perfectly that morning, it seemed he had solved that problem.
-Her hair,” he gestures to it. Everything all right?
-Yes, as far as I can tell.
-I’m so sorry, Olivia. My daughters, they’re something… they’re…” He rolls his lips as he looks down, he didn’t know what to say himself.
-Because he’s not going to work, I’ll take care of his daughters. I’ll call him if anything happens.
-Thank you.” The CEO looks up, and at that moment they meet each other’s gaze.
Olivia’s heart fluttered as she focused on those beautiful, deep-set eyes of her boss’s, and it made her want to k**s the man right then and there.
What was happening to her, why was he looking at her like that, and what the hell with wanting to get close to her, little by little, Caleb was getting closer to Olivia. Something about her caught his attention, it was as if she was drawing him in without his consent, what was happening to her?
Olivia swallows, and feels that her heart and everything else was about to betray her. As if she couldn’t step aside, something else was going to happen there between the two of them, and it wasn’t meant to be. She couldn’t have an affair with her boss, especially after replaceing out that he was the father of two girls who hated her. An affair between the two of them was the worst idea, she would never be accepted by those girls, and he wouldn’t take her seriously either. She’d just be one more on Caleb Palmer’s list.
Olivia came to her senses, which led her to move slyly away from Caleb, at that moment he was quite close, she thought it was best to keep her distance between the boss and the employee. The young woman pulled herself together, and looked at him rather seriously.
-It will be late for him to leave, I will go and see what his daughters are doing.
The brunette hurried past Caleb, who stared in one direction and wondered what the hell had just happened? She was gone too fast for him to have time for anything.
Caleb turns around, watching her walk away… What was he trying to do, was he trying to k**s her? The CEO stands for a moment pondering his actions, no, not with her. He denies as he looks at his watch.
-Shit, it’s too late…
[…]But what was about to happen back there? That closeness between them wasn’t normal at all, she shouldn’t allow her boss to get so close. Especially when she was attracted to him. At least she had the willpower to walk away, but she wasn’t sure that if there was to be another occasion like that, she would be able to withstand the temptation.
She needed to control herself, and occupy her mind with her boss’s daughters. That was what she’d been hired to do, not to go around having awkward moments with Caleb.
The brunette ventured outside to the back of the house, she assumed the girls would be in that part of the house. However, when she walked out to the pool area she didn’t see them anywhere.
-Are you done flirting with my dad? -Olivia gasps, then turns away.
-I was doing no such thing with your father, please stop thinking about it.
-Maybe you can fool him, but you can’t fool me. Everyone who comes to work here ends up wanting to get into dad’s bed.
-Well, I don’t,” she says firmly, even though she likes the man a lot, she doesn’t think she’ll become his manager.
-They all say the same thing, but none of them last long enough.
For the moment, his duty is to support them. And, perhaps, to try to generate him. In any case, they had to stop seeing him as an enemy.
[…]When he arrived at the office, his employees were waiting for him to start the meeting. He had arrived late, but it was not easy to be the father of two very complicated children. And then having to look after a nanny that her children despise.
The truth is that she was very shady, as she thought that Olivie would never come back. It was fortunate that she decided not to quit. That was very good of her, and she owed him all her prayers and her theory; Olivie was indicating that she would be the nanny of his children.
At the beginning of the meeting, Celeb wasn’t paying much attention to her, as far as we can tell. Luckily, he’s the boss, so his secrecy will let him know about any big things that come up. At the moment, all he can think about is that brief exchange of words between him and Olivie.
It was very extreme for him to be thinking about such things. He didn’t usually have those kinds of emotions or concerns about a woman, and that’s just as well, since he didn’t intend to get involved with any woman. The idea of having his heart broken again was not on his mind, apart from that, he had two children. The last thing he wanted was for his sons to get involved with a woman who might not stay long in his life.
And the fact that he was looking for nannies for them did not mean that he was going to get involved with one of them. In fact, it would not have weighed even once.
Celeb leans back from his seat, and gestures that he is paying attention to the meeting. The truth is that they are not saying much to say, at least it is not as important as the fact that they want to cease and desist from the prisons.
Sigh… you hope your children behave well that day, how can you concentrate on your work if you are thinking about Olivie all the time, and the possible fears of your children.
She’s still wondering how come she found him in his spite with all that glue on his head, God, it would have been so funny to see him covered in that glue. He still wonders how he got rid of all that baby from his hair. It’s just impossible, maybe I should ask him what he did.
The CEO half-smiles at the sight of her brain covered by that glue. Now I understand why the other nannies return the bonus owed to them on the same day, or the second day. The games of Telíe and Alme were very aggressive.
-Well, I don’t,” she says firmly, even if she really liked the man, she wasn’t planning to become his mistress.
-They all say the same thing, but none of them last long enough here.
Talia watches Olivia with determination, and the brunette notices that. The girl seemed quite determined to make sure she didn’t get the job, let alone her father’s side. It was going to be an uphill battle, it was one thing if she was attracted to her father, it was another if she was going to crawl into his bed.
-I don’t know what you’ve been through with the other girls, but what I can tell you is that I don’t intend to have any kind of relationship with your dad. He’s my boss, and I respect that a lot.
-We’ll see about that!
The young girl answers haughtily, walks past the brunette and disappears into the house. Olivia lets out her breath and looks up at the sky, it would be a pretty tough job, how was she going to win those girls over, they hated her guts. And they didn’t even know her enough to judge her that way.
For the moment, her duty was to put up with the girls. And maybe try to win her over. Somehow they had to stop seeing her as an enemy.
[…]When he arrived at the office, his employees were already waiting for him to start the meeting. He had arrived too late, but it wasn’t easy being the father of two rather complicated daughters. And now to have to look after a nanny that his daughters despise.
He was actually quite astonished, since he thought Olivia would never show up again. It was fortunate that she decided not to quit. That spoke very well of her, and proved his theory right; Olivia was the one to be his daughters’ nanny.
As the meeting started, Caleb wasn’t paying much attention to her. Luckily he was the boss, so his secretary would let him know if anything unusual came up. At the moment, all he was thinking about was that brief exchange of glances between him and Olivia.
It was very strange that he was thinking about such things. He didn’t usually have those kinds of emotions or concerns for a woman, and that was just as well, since he didn’t intend to get involved with any woman. Having his heart broken again was not in his plans, other than that, he had two daughters. The last thing he wanted was for his daughters to get involved with a woman who was unlikely to be in their lives for long.
And just because he was looking for babysitters, it didn’t mean he was sleeping with every one of them. In fact, that hadn’t happened once.
Caleb leans back from his seat, and gestures that he was paying attention to the meeting. They weren’t really saying much, at least it wasn’t important enough for him to leave the house in a hurry.
He sighed… he hoped his daughters would behave themselves that day, how was he going to concentrate on work if he was going to be thinking about Olivia all the time, and the possible mischief of his daughters.
He clasped his hands together and remembered when he found her in his office with all that glue on her head, God, it had been so funny to see her covered in that glue. He still wondered how she had gotten all that slime out of her hair. It was impossible, maybe he should ask her what she did.
The CEO half smiles at the memory of her face covered in that glue. Now he understood why the other nannies returned the bonus he gave them the same day, or on the second day. Talia and Alma’s games were quite aggressive.
However, I never witnessed such a disaster with any of the other girls. Olivia was the first babysitter I had ever seen. She’d better have a serious talk with the girls, they couldn’t possibly do that kind of mischief.
-Do you agree, Mr. Palmer? -The voice of one of the capitalists brought him out of his musings.
-I’m sorry, what did he say?
-About the trip, is that all right with you?
-Yes, it’s fine. No problem.” Although he didn’t pay attention, it didn’t matter, he would ask his assistant later.
-In that case, let’s get on with it.
Caleb let out his breath, already wanting the meeting to end. Especially since he wasn’t paying the slightest bit of attention.
[…]In the afternoon, Olivia retraced her steps to the stairs. The cook had told her that the girls, after snacking, went up to the bedroom. Not that she had to keep an eye on them all the time, but it was necessary for her to know where they were and what they were doing.
Especially the youngest, she was too young, and Talia’s influences weren’t very good for Alma. She knew she wasn’t as bad as her sister, she probably needed a good friend who wouldn’t talk to her about things like; daddy’s mistresses, making life miserable for the nanny; or hating Olivia to death.
She didn’t think those things were necessary for that little girl, she actually thought she was quite sweet.
By the time the brunette reached the girls’ room, she opened the door. She found only Alma, who was playing with an impressive dollhouse.
-Hello,” Olivia greets her kindly, but doesn’t get an answer. Where’s your sister?
-In her room,” he answers without even seeing her.
-I thought she was with you.” Olivia sits in the Indian position in front of the dollhouse.
-She doesn’t like playing dolls with me.” The girl mimics her actions and stares at her. Are you going to play with me?
Olivia thought that would be a good way to win the little girl over, then she would use other methods to get along with the big girl.
-I’d really like to play with you, we still have time. Your dad called and said he’d be home in a little while.
-Strange, he went out early today.
-Doesn’t he always do that? -Olivia frowns as she sees some sadness in little Alma’s face.
-No, he’s always too busy working,” the girl replies, resuming the game.
Caleb’s work consumed him completely. His daughters spent a lot of time alone, possibly the reason why they behaved the way they did.
Those girls didn’t need a nanny, they needed their father. To spend time with them, to take them for walks, and even to play with them. Olivia looks at Alma, and doesn’t feel sorry for her, but very sad, since they don’t have a mother by their side.
-So, do you want to play dolls? -The chestnut smiles sincerely. Her intention was to make peace with the girls, to win them over, and even to become their friend.
Alma looks up, and sees her nanny… then in a fleeting glance, notices the open door through which her sister was stealthily entering, while motioning for her to be quiet.
