So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 32
With nothing to take with her, the brunette opted to change into her old clothes, grabbed her bag and left the room. But before all that, she left a note for Caleb; she wasn’t irresponsible to leave without explaining her reasons for leaving.
Leaving the room, Olivia ran into the bodyguard, who was coming out of the lift.
-Good morning, can I help you?
-Don’t treat me like that, I’m not a lady and certainly not Mr. Palmer’s employee. I need to get home, can you help me?
The man looked at her for a long time, she thought she might not get much help from him, but nothing was lost by trying.
[…]Caleb was riding up the hotel lift with a couple of bags of breakfast in his hand, he had left Olivia sleeping in her bed that morning. He didn’t want to wake her, and he didn’t want to order service from the hotel. And in view of the fact that he had the morning free, he had gone out to buy breakfast at a good restaurant he knew.
That morning he intended to spend the day in her company. He decided as he waited for breakfast… as he watched his flat approach, Caleb smiled. The night before had been the best night of his life, that woman was incredible. Olivia was beautiful, and so sweet, he hadn’t had the chance to date such a pure and innocent woman in his life.
He really liked Olivia, of that he had no doubt….
As the lift door opened, the CEO detected the male figure of his bodyguard.
-My daughters haven’t woken up?
-No, sir. They’re still in their bedroom.
Caleb followed her into her room, but once he was inside he noticed she wasn’t in bed.
-Olivia? Are you in the bathroom? -He calls out to her, but gets no answer.
Then the blond notices that the door is stained with black ink, he leans towards it and remembers the night before when he had Olivia right there, it was the only thing that crossed his mind, that stain on the door was due to the dress that was rubbed against the door. She smiles, and feels a stirring inside her.
-She smilingly denies, the dress didn’t matter in the slightest, it was her he was interested in. Olivia…” She stands up and walks to the bathroom. “I think the dress is ruined.
He knocks on the door, but no one answers… intrigued, and puzzled that she won’t answer, he opens the door. Caleb is amazed, the room was completely empty. What’s more, he didn’t even notice that anyone besides him had used it.
So, he figured she must have gone back to her room. But to his bad luck, Olivia wasn’t in that room either, but that dress was on the bed.
-But where the hell is she?
As he checks the whole room, he realizes that all the clothes he bought her were in the wardrobe, but she wasn’t. He hurries out of the room.
He hurries out of the room…
-Where is Olivia? -He asks the bodyguard.
-She’s gone, Mr. Palmer.
-She’s gone? -Where the f**k did she go? -He walks towards his employee.
-Home, sir, that’s what she told me.
< Did she go away? Why did she go away without telling me anything? Why did she go away? Again, someone who matters to me leaves me for no reason?
-Did he tell you why he left?
-No, sir. I’m sorry.
The CEO clenches his jaw, how could he just walk away like that, without an explanation. Yes, they’d had a problem and he’d even fired her, but he didn’t have to leave like that. At least he would have waited until that morning for them to talk things over.
He wasn’t going to ask her to leave, and yes, he was going to fire her for the problem with his daughter. But Caleb was planning on asking her to go out with him, he wished…flatten his lips, what he wished for at that moment didn’t matter anymore, apparently, to her the night before was worth shit.
-She’s gone because she can’t stand us, Dad. I told you she’s an opportunist, just looking for money. She can’t be our babysitter anymore,” Talia’s voice snapped Caleb out of his musings. She hasn’t even said goodbye properly, what can you expect from a woman like that?
-Go into your room, get your things and your sister’s. We’re not going home right now. We’re not going home right now.
-But, dad… you said that…
-I said get your things.” He watches his daughter over the edge of her shoulders.
Talia could tell her father was furious, and immediately went into her room. Closing the door, she was still shocked by her dad’s change in mood. He was clearly very upset about the nanny’s sudden departure.
-Dad is very upset, Talia. And it’s your fault,” Alma scolds her.
-It’s not my fault that woman left without warning.
-You’ve been messing with her since day one, that’s why she left.
-You’ve been helping with the pranks too, Alma. So don’t play innocent.
-Yeah, but you’ve been playing the last few yourself. -Yeah, but you’ve been playing the last few yourself.
-Well, now. She’s gone, and there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s the best thing for us and for daddy.
-Well, I was beginning to like her.
You’re a girl who doesn’t know anything about grown-ups.
The older blonde goes to get her suitcase and put her clothes in it, while the younger one looks at her and denies. Then she leaves the room and runs to Olivia’s room, the girl looks at everything and then notices a white envelope carefully left on a bedside table. She picks it up and reads her father’s name.
The girl thinks hard, and decides not to open it. She prefers to keep it and give it to her father when her anger has passed.
-What are you doing, Alma? -Her sister’s voice sounded from behind her.
-I was just going through the things Olivia left behind,” she answered, tucking the letter under her pajamas.
-She seems to have left all the clothes she bought herself.
-What happened to her dress? It was so pretty.
-I gave it that unique touch, now it’s all torn up. I’m sure daddy will be very upset when he sees it – The blonde laughs.
-You’ve gone too far, Talia. This dress sure is expensive, you shouldn’t have damaged it like that.
-You’ve gone too soft, what’s wrong with you? You wanted that woman gone, we both want Dad to be alone by the time Mom gets here.
Just as Caleb began to listen to his daughters’ conversation, he felt angry about what Talia had been doing to the nanny, but on the other hand, he could tell that they missed their mother. But there was nothing he could do to change that situation, that woman would never come back to them.
But as she made Talia, who was the eldest, understand, Alma was just a baby when her mother left. Instead Talia, she was another story… Caleb rubs his face, now without Olivia by his side he doesn’t want any more nannies for his daughters.
-Mum’s never coming back,” Alma yells at her sister, to which Caleb looks up. She left when she was a baby, and if she hasn’t come back, it’s because she doesn’t want to.
-Who told you that?
-The kids at school, they say my mum’s never coming back for me.
-That’s a lie, she will come back.
-I may be smaller than you, but at least I know she doesn’t want us. She left daddy and he doesn’t care about his daughters, so I don’t want her to come back.
-Alma!
The eldest looks at her little sister totally surprised, it was the first time she said those things to her about her mother. I thought she had the same desire as her to see her mother again.
-Dad has taken care of us all this time, I think he’s the one we should look after and not give him any trouble,” added the little girl, looking down at the floor.
The father listened to his little girl and smiled, Alma was very sweet. And he knew that Talia was too, but after her mother’s departure she had become a very cold teenager. How the hell could he correct that?
Alma was small, and if she didn’t let her sister influence her, she could make her grow up to be a very cold teenager. She could make her grow up to be different than Talia.
-Our father has to be alone by the time Mama gets here, I promise you, when that happens, things will be better, Alma.
-I don’t want mum to come back, I want dad. And Olivia, I liked her, she was a good babysitter. At least she played with me because she wanted to, not like the others.
The little girl passes her sister and leaves the room. Alma bumps into her father in the corridor and decides to ignore him. The girl goes into her room and breaks down the door.
Her family was a complete mess, well, if you could say she had a family. The CEO enters the bedroom that belonged to Olivia, replaceing his daughter sitting up in bed.
-You shouldn’t say those things to your sister, Talia. Your mother…” The young woman looks up. “You know she’s not coming back, I can’t…” She looks up.
-You don’t want to look for her, you don’t want her to be with us. All you want to do is put a different woman in your bed, or assign us a nanny every now and then. That’s why you don’t try to look for her.
-Daughter, I don’t know where your mother is.
The blonde’s eyes clouded over, she knew that her father was lying to her just so she wouldn’t bother him any more about it.
-Bullshit, you’re lying to me. You don’t care about me, you don’t care about Alma; you don’t even care about Mum, and all because…
-Of course I care about them, I adore them,” he caresses her cheek.
-If that were true, you’d be looking for ways to replace Mama. I want us to be a family, like before, why can’t you understand that?
-Your mother left, I asked her not to. To stay with us, to fix our problems, but she wouldn’t do it. She just… left one day and I never saw her again,” Caleb kneels down in front of his daughter. I wanted her to stay, to stay while she was growing up, but she couldn’t, daughter. You have to understand that some people can’t be forced to stay where they don’t want to be.
The CEO takes his daughter’s hands and squeezes them… he felt deeply the pain she had harboured for a long time, despite the years, Talia had not gotten over her mother’s departure.
-She left because you were never at home, you were always working, and you didn’t have time for us,” she lets go of her father’s hands. That’s why Mom left our side, because of you.
The blonde stands up, looks at her father with annoyance and then leaves the room… Caleb stood there, knowing that his 15 year old daughter was right. But what she didn’t know was why she was working so hard.
