So, Shall We Get Married? -
Chapter 33
With nothing to unpack, Olivia throws her bag on the table and goes straight to collapse on her bed. The brunette looks up at the ceiling of her flat and thinks that maybe she hadn’t made the best decision, even though she wasn’t going to continue working for Caleb that morning, she shouldn’t have left without telling him.
On the other hand, waking up alone in that bed had made her angry. Since she felt used, she would have at least left him a note, or something to explain why she’d left.
But the reality was, it was all quite clear; she was just one of a long list of women who passed through his bed. He knew that from the beginning, by that time, he didn’t mind giving her his virginity, and it wasn’t that he was regretting it…
-But I feel terrible.
Olivia closes her eyes and remembers that incredible night of passion, when she gave herself completely to a man who… she suddenly opens her eyes and sits up; her heart starts pounding furiously as she blinks her eyes incessantly. The brunette finally swallows and tries to make sense of her emotions.
-That’s not possible,” she smiles as if mocking what she was thinking, “No one can fall in love that fast, it’s impossible, I can’t be in love….
The young woman is silent about her words and listens in her head to the beating of her heart much louder than before, what she was imagining was not pleasing her at all. Olivia couldn’t believe she was thinking she had a crush on Caleb.
-No, no, no…” She stands up and starts pacing around the room, “I’m not in love with him, I told myself that wasn’t going to happen, it’s not possible…” She gives up, and ends up sitting down.
She gives up, and ends up sitting on the edge of the bed… then, she feels tears running down her cheeks, she was an idiot, how could she think of falling in love with her ex-boss. A man who only dated women on and off, who didn’t take anyone seriously.
-My God, I was just the time of the night, and I came to fall in love like an idiot.
She lay her body on the bed, her heart aching. But she didn’t blame Caleb, the only one to blame was her, for not knowing how to separate things.
However, how could she, it was the first time she had ever interacted like that with a real man. Her previous dates could not be taken as experience. At that she came to her senses and sat down again.
-Of course, I’m not in love with him. This must be temporary, maybe I’m like this because everything I’ve been through with him is so recent. And since it’s my first time, I feel this absurd sensation of falling in love. It’s just the heat of the moment.
Olivia bites her lips and tries her best to convince herself that this is how she was thinking.
-But then, why do I feel this excruciating pain of loss in my chest? -She says to herself as she lets out more tears.
[…]Caleb arrived home with his daughters, the CEO was in a very bad mood and it was all because Olivia had quit her job. Well, she had been fired the night before, but at least she should have waited until the next day and gone back to the city with her family. She had no business leaving like that, let alone after the two of them had made love.
It irritated him that she left him, the truth was that he was pissed off by her behaviour. The CEO locks himself in his office and thinks about what the hell he was going to do now, with no nanny, with two girls who couldn’t be left alone, and with an uncontainable rage that was eating him up.
He rubs the hundred in his head, why the f**k couldn’t he get it out of his head? And that night they had just was tormenting him, it wasn’t possible that he was going to spend all day thinking about Olivia, when he wasn’t going to see her again.
-With a demon, I have to see her,” he said, standing up.
He walks to the door and then stops, before he opens it he remembers what she did to his daughter, she left the job lying around without even saying goodbye, at least to him; and then there was what they both shared.
He squeezes the door handle hard, it pissed him off deeply that she’d let him down that morning, sure, he wasn’t letting go of what he did to Talia; but it’s just the two of them, that night….
-Damn, she’s not to be trusted,” he mumbles.
At that, the door to his office opens of its own accord, and in walks his daughter Alma. Caleb steps back and lets her into his office.
-Hello daughter, what do you need?
-Were you going out?
-Yeah, well, no.
-Aren’t you going to look for Olivia?
The CEO is taken aback by his daughter’s question, why was he asking her that, as far as he thought, Alma didn’t like the nanny.
-I thought you didn’t like her, daughter.
-Yes, at first. But at the party, she…” The girl looks down. She was nice to me, even though she knew she wasn’t my nanny anymore. She hangs out with me, knowing that I’m bored with those parties, you and Talia are never with me, but she is.
-Do you want me to come back as your nanny again? -Caleb kneels before the little girl and makes her look at him.
-I want her back as my friend.
The blond swallows at the request, blinks, and wonders; how the hell was he avoiding what his daughter was asking? Alma was very sweet, he knew she was just being badly influenced by her sister. But she was also very naive.
-I want to apologize for the pranks I played on her, dad,” The father’s eyes widen.
Then he strokes his daughter’s cheek tenderly, softens his gaze and half smiles. Something had to be done to solve the problem.
-Olivia misbehaved with your sister, it’s a bit difficult for me to ask her to go back to work.
-Talia was to blame, Dad.
-What are you saying? -The CEO frowns. Why do you say that?
-She said a lot of mean things to Olivia in front of everyone, that’s why she hit her.
-What things? -He denies, it wasn’t right for his little girl to repeat whatever Talia said to the nanny. No matter what she said, her actions weren’t right.
-But Daddy, you must listen….
-Daughter, please. She can’t go back to work in the house.
-But I want her to come back.
That was impossible, if Olivia came back, Talia would make her life miserable. Even if she returned as a nanny for her younger daughter, the older one wouldn’t leave her alone. It was a serious problem, she didn’t want the nanny to lose control again and end up doing something she would regret.
It wasn’t fair to her daughters, or to Olivia herself….
-I can’t please you, daughter. There are grown-up things that sometimes you won’t understand, Olivia did things she shouldn’t have done.
-But you have to know what Talia…
-That’s enough! -The CEO stands up, “Let’s not talk about it anymore, besides, your sister might be uncomfortable with this nanny coming back.
-It’s not fair to please her alone.
-Get into your body and make sure you have everything you need for school tomorrow, okay?
The girl frowns, purses her lips, and runs out of his office. Caleb wanted to chase after her, but he knew that trying to convince her that it was best for everyone if Olivia didn’t come back wasn’t going to solve anything.
Although for him, maybe it wasn’t, since he was crazy about going to see her….
[…]He had finally found a job, after so long a search, he found one where he would be paid relatively well… it wasn’t possible that he had been out of work for almost three weeks, surviving on what was left of the bonus from his old job.
But there was almost nothing left of that, and the approaching rent was knocking on his door, and if he didn’t replace a job before the end of the month, he was going to be in a very bad way.
But fortunately, he would have no more problems….
And that morning she found herself arriving at her new job eager to get ahead and forget the past, including Caleb. As she was about to enter, the brunette looked out of the corner of her eye and noticed some people she knew perfectly well.
-It’s not possible,” she mutters under her breath.
Caleb was saying goodbye to his daughters in front of the school where they apparently studied, the school where she had found it so hard to replace a job. The brunette noticed that the girls were saying goodbye to their father, and walking towards the entrance. There was no doubt, they were studying there.
But how unlucky for them…
Olivia bites her lips; and turns her gaze from the girls, to her father, who didn’t take his eyes off her… all this time, she told herself that it was just a stupid crush she had on him, but now that she was seeing him after almost three weeks, her heart wanted to explode.
That wasn’t some silly crush, of course it wasn’t! She really was in love with Caleb Palmer. She blinked and repressed the urge to cry, as she remembered that their parting was not as she had wished.
He seemed so calm, as if he had already forgotten she ever existed. As if she was never in his bed, as if giving her innocence to him was worth absolutely nothing. The brunette’s lips flattened, and she noticed that he was staring at her. The fright caused her to hide behind a wall to prevent him from seeing her.
She wasn’t sure if she had been too quick to hide, but she hoped she had, she didn’t want him to know she worked at the same school as her daughters. He was an important man, if it got out that she had beaten a student at that institution, it would be very bad for him.
She closes her eyes and flattens her lips…
She begged the heavens with all her might, then she opened her eyes and felt a kind of churning inside her, she was in a cold sweat, and suddenly her vision blurred. Olivia couldn’t stand up, and with the same collapse she collapsed.
Caleb makes an attempt to get into the limousine, when out of nowhere he hears a commotion at the other entrance of the school, he looks up and sees that many people employed by the school are standing in a circle. He frowns, it sounds like someone is in a bad way, he tries to close the car door and get closer to see if he can help at all…
