Sold To The Billionaire Alpha -
Chapter 28
Orion
I sat in the back of the limo with Kathyann. She stared at me blankly.
“Ok, so where is Daisy?” I said, keeping my tone casual.
“You must be really controlling, huh?” Asked Kathyann.
“No,” I said awkwardly. “I am…eager to make Orchid comfortable in her new home.”
“How exactly did you manage to get Orchid to agree to move in with you and leave her job?” Asked Kathyann.
“Kathyann…” I began.
“Kat,” she said simply.
“Ok, Kat, Orchid found a new job closer to home…my home,” I said.
Being Luna was a job.
“So she’s not practising medicine anymore?” Asked Kat, her eyes widening.
“Um, no…her medical experience is an asset to this new job,” I said smoothly.
It was true. I was going to let her help out the pack doctors a bit.
Kat raised her eyebrows.
“How about something to drink?” I asked, trying a new strategy.
“What you got?” She asked.
“Everything,” I said simply.
“Everything?” She asked incredulously.
“Yep,” I said curtly.
“Fine, a shot of patron cafe tequila,” she ordered.
I nodded to the chauffeur. He pressed a button and the hidden cabinet in the back opened in front of us, the doors sliding outwards. There were shelves of hard liquor, beer and wine there. The liquor cabinet was enchanted to have every drink but she didn’t need to know that. Thankfully, the patron cafe was in plain sight so it didn’t need to appear before her very eyes and freak her out. I poured the dark liquid into a shot glass and handed it to her. She nodded at me pointedly. I poured myself a shot.
“Bottoms’ up!” She cheered, clinking her glass against mine.
We drank the coffee flavoured tequila. It wasn’t bad. Not my go-to but not bad.
“Ok, Daisy,” I said.
“She’s a doctor,” said Kathyann.
“Where?” I asked.
“Another one,” said Kat.
I quickly poured two more shots. We drank them.
“Where does Daisy work on Richmond Street? Which building?” I asked directly.
“Right there,” she said, pointing next door to the Social Eyes Place.
I looked out the window. Right next to Social Eyes, there was a private clinic, with a perfectly visible sign and a medical symbol out front.
“Ok, detective!” Said Kat mockingly.
I grumbled to myself. I should have looked at the buildings myself.
“I’ll be right back!” I said.
“Wait!” She implored me.
“What?” I asked, exasperated.
“Daisy won’t go with you! You’re a stranger!” She said as though that was obvious.
“You went with me!” I pointed out.
“I’m me. Daisy’s her,” she said as though that made sense.
Perhaps, she was a lightweight and was drunk already. I ignored her and got out of the car. She came running after me.
“Daisy is extremely cautious,” she explained.
“Ok, come convince her then. You promised to help me,” I said, walking up the steps to the front porch of the clinic.
It was clearly a house that had been converted into a private clinic.
“You promised to answer questions about Orchid,” she said, annoyed.
“I have answered all your questions thus far,” I said, ringing the doorbell.
A ding-dong melody echoed inside the place. This definitely used to be a house.
“You’re bullshitting me obviously,” snapped Kat.
I rang the doorbell again. The door creaked open to reveal an elderly nurse all in white.
“Do you have an appointment?” She asked.
“No,” I said slowly, glancing inside.
The waiting room in there was completely empty.
“It’s by appointment only,” she said.
“I don’t want to see the doctor for a problem. I’m the boyfriend of her best friend and want to invite her to a party,” I said.
“I’ll let her know,” croaked the nurse who tried to close the door in my face.
I quickly side-stepped her, almost at werewolf speed. I was impatient now. These humans were so fussy.
“Sir!” Said the nurse indignantly.
“I wanna make an appointment,” I lied.
“Oh! Certainly!” She said, her whole demeanour changing.
She shuffled over to the desk and took out a clipboard. She handed it to me.
“Fill out this form so the doctor will have all the necessary information,” said the nurse.
“Ok,” I said, smiling.
Kat had walked in too and was not helping locate Daisy. Shouldn’t she know Daisy’s nurse? I glanced at the form, scanning through quickly: Name, Age, Birthdate, s*x, Address, Contact number, Email Address, Emergency Contact Name and Relation to patient, Emergency Contact number and address, Allergies, Existing Medical Problems, Family Medical Problems (Mother, Father, Brother, Sister), Reason for Visit and it went on and on. It was three pages with print on both sides. What the f**k! I stopped reading. I didn’t have time for this.
“DAISY!!!” I yelled in my Alpha Voice, making the clinic shake.
The elderly nurse screamed and ducked under the desk. Kat looked at me in awe but remained where she was. I realised she had brought the bottom of cafe patron tequila and her shot glass.
“Where’s Daisy?!” I demanded, feeling guilty about scaring the nurse but I needed to get back to my pack. I also didn’t want my mother alone with Orchid for too long.
“Here!” Said a high-pitched shaky voice.
I looked around and spotted a tall, waif-like girl with stringy long dark hair and pale skin putting her hands up with her palms facing me as though this was a hold-up.
“Take what you want. Don’t hurt Nurse Fiji!” She said, keeping her back against the wall.
I sighed.
“Daisy, I mean Doc,” I began.
“Daisy is fine,” she said with a faint smile. “Just don’t hurt us.”
“I’m not gonna hurt you. I’m Orchid’s boyfriend and I want you to come help me plan her surprise birthday party,” I explained.
“He’s a liar!” Squeaked Nurse Fiji peaking out from behind the desk so that only her wide staring eyes were visible. “He said he had come to invite you to a party! Now he’s saying he wants you to plan it! Don’t go with him!”
“That is the same thing phrased differently,” I protested. “Look I have Kat with me!” I said, pointing to Kat who was calmly pouring her third or fourth shot.
“Kat!” Said Daisy. “Don’t hurt her!”
I sighed.
“Where’s Orchid?” Demanded Daisy.
“You can put your hands down. I don’t have any weapons,” I said trying to sound reassuring.
Alphas didn’t need weapons but I wasn’t here to hurt anyone. Where was that brave human kid from the diner when I needed her? This particular group was so neurotic.
“I am sorry for yelling,” I tried. “I got impatient. I really want to make Orchid’s day special and I’m in a hurry. I run a…business and I have to get back to a…cooperate meeting,” I said, sort of lying.
“Ok,” said Daisy, relaxing a little.
“He’s a cool guy,” said Kat finally. She had stood there silently for so long.
“He gave me this!” Said Kat, holding up the tequila.
She could not have the bottle. It had infinite magical refills. It was going back in the cabinet but I wasn’t about to interrupt the girls as they calmed down. The nurse slowly rose to her feet.
“Nurse Fiji, I am so sorry,” I said in earnest.
“How do you know her name?” Asked Daisy suspiciously.
“You said it just now,” I pointed out.
“How do you know my name?” Asked Daisy.
“Orchid’s mother told me,” I said.
“Where’s Orchid?” Asked Daisy.
“At my house,” I said.
“Let me talk to her,” said Daisy simply. “Call her.”
“Oh! Smart! I hadn’t even thought of that. Yeah call her!” Said Kat.
“That will ruin the surprise!” I whined.
f**k. This was why the Caro family would never go out of business. Snatching people off the street was easier than this. On a serious note, I wished I had never involved that family in bringing Orchid to me. I should have just…asked her on a date or something. She might have actually said yes. I would have had to pretend to be human for a while though.
“I’ll call Orchid’s Mom!” I offered.
Kat shrugged. Daisy nodded. Nurse Fiji snatched the clipboard back and put it away. I called Orchid’s Mom on my cell phone. I put her on loudspeaker.
“Hello,” came her voice, already annoyed. She probably recognised my number.
“Hey! Uh, it’s Orion!” I said brightly.
She sighed loudly. “Yes,” she said.
“Daisy and Kat are here,” I said.
“Hi, said Daisy.
“Hey,” called Kat.
“Oh, um, hi girls,” said Orchid’s Mom dryly.
“Could you explain to the girls what I’m trying to do and that I’m Orchid’s boyfriend?” I asked, feeling idiotic.
There was a long pause.
“Girls, Orion is the…man that Orchid lives with. He…is having a surprise birthday party for her and wants us all to attend,” she said, sounding fed up.
“Ok, thanks,” said Daisy with a smile.
“Bye Mom!” Said Kat.
“You and Orchid are sisters?” I blurted out.
“No,” said Kat, looking at me strangely.
Orchid’s Mom hung up without saying bye.
“You must think we’re so…dramatic,” said Daisy, sounding embarrassed, covering her face.
“It’s just that the way you yelled…I probably imagined it…it was like you caused an earthquake or something,” said Daisy, bursting into awkward laughter.
Nurse Fiji glared at me.
“Oh, my imagination…it was a coincidence…or there must have been a small earthquake at the same time? I should check the news!” Said Daisy.
“Sure,” I said. “We can check in the limo.”
“What if a bigger earthquake is coming?” Asked Daisy.
“I don’t think…” I began.
“We should board up the place. I have an underground bunker! Ok, let’s take inventory!” Said Daisy.
Kat was looking at me with one eyebrow raised. Daisy was a little anxious as she had hinted.
“I have an underground bunker!” I lied completely this time.
“Really?” Said Daisy.
“Don’t go with him. He’s a liar,” said Nurse Fiji.
“Nurse Fiji!” I laughed as though we were friends. “Yes, a huge one stocked with…years of food and water,” I said.
It was actually a bit true. I owned dams and water reservoirs and huge mills and croplands for my pack’s use. It was not all underground but whatever.
“I have a ton of supplies,” I reiterated.
“Cool!” Said Daisy. “So many people don’t understand the importance of that!”
“I know! I hate that! When people…don’t have underground bunkers. So stupid of them. Let’s go!” I said.
Daisy nodded slowly.
“Quickly, before something else happens. I think I felt something just now!” I said, fake alarmed.
“Oh no!” Shrieked Daisy.
I ran out the clinic and Daisy ran behind me. Kat came after us slowly, pouring another shot. Orchid’s friends were weird as f**k and they were bringing out the weirdo in me. Whatever it took to get them to the party. Love really did make people crazy just as my father had said.
I ushered Daisy into the limo and glared at Kat until she hurried up and got in. I got in and shut the door.
“Step on it!” I said to my chauffeur.
He raced off.
“A jeep would be better in times like these,” said Daisy.
“My jeep is parked closer to the stairs that leads to the bunker,” I lied easily.
Lying really was something that got easier with each one you told. Kat was looking at me in amusement but not bothering to question my sudden change of tune to suit Daisy’s concerns.
“OH NO!” Screamed Daisy, almost making me hit the ceiling.
“What?” I gasped.
“Nurse Fiji!” She shrieked. “We left her behind!”
“It’s ok! There’s…” I stopped, struggling to come up with a lie. This was a difficult one.
“She didn’t want to come with us. She wanted to go home and warn her family,” said Kat dryly.
“Oh ok,” said Daisy, relaxing.
“Daisy,” said Kat, putting the liquor down and staring at how full it was. She was sharper than Daisy, that’s for sure.
“Yeah?” Said Daisy.
“Have you um been doing your breathing exercises and journaling like you’re supposed to?” Asked Kat, suddenly maternal.
“No, I’ve been busy with the clinic,” said Daisy.
That empty place.
“It didn’t look busy. Today must be a slow day!” Said Kat kindly.
Daisy nodded absentmindedly. I was worried about what would happen when we got to the portal. The portal was underground. This could work out perfectly or it could be a bigger disaster than when I had first brought Orchid and Rose to my house.
