Sold To The Billionaire Alpha -
Chapter 29
Orion
When we reached the guard’s booth at the entrance to Gregoire, the girls marvelled at the luxurious gated community before them.
“Figures you live here,” said Kat who was even more outspoken now that she was tipsy.
“This is where the underground bunker is?” Asked Daisy, frowning.
“Yes, under my home here,” I said.
The house I owned in Gregoire had its own portal underground.
“This is like a Billionaire neighbourhood,” said Daisy softly as the guard let us through without hesitation.
I said nothing. I was getting really nervous about what was to come. How would I get these two to go through the portal without asking questions. We reached my mansion and I opened the automatic gates with my remote. I shut them behind the limo as it cruised up the miles long driveway.
“Wow! Your driveway is as big and as long as a highway!” Said Kat. “You got a brother?” She asked, grinning.
“Yes actually!” I said, smiling. “One younger brother.”
“Single?” Asked Kat.
“He just got married,” I said, thinking of Perseus and Rose.
“s**t,” said Kat dryly.
Daisy laughed.
“Any cousins?” Asked Kat.
“Kat, cut it out!” Said Daisy.
We reached the house and the chauffeur parked the limo. He got out to open the door for the ladies and me.
“Thank you,” I said stiffly, dreading the reaction of the girls when I took them to werewolf country.
We entered the mansion and Kat was amazed at the marble floors and stained glass windows.
“You’re like rich rich not just rich. Old money,” she slurred.
“What do you do?” Asked Daisy politely.
“I…run a large family-owned business,” I said, leading them to a room just off the entrance hall.
There was a stone staircase there that led down to the basement. I began descending the stone steps.
“Wow, I’m so excited to see this bunker! It’s probably fully stocked her? Panic button and everything?” Asked Daisy.
I laughed in what I hoped was a casual tone rather than lie more. We reached the foot of the stairs.
“What is that?” Said Kat sharply.
The sight of the portal had sobered her up quite quickly. It was a huge circular vortex. It swirled round and round, all the air converging inwards. It did not cast a shadow, rather is emitted a kaleidoscope of coloured light.
“Wow,” whispered Daisy, walking towards the portal as if transfixed.
“Yeah it’s the latest in bunker technology,” I said.
“What? What is it though?” Asked Kat.
“Go have a look and see for yourself!” I said encouragingly.
Kat eyed me suspiciously for a few awkwardly long moments while Daisy ventured towards the vortex alone. I took a few steps closer to the portal and gestured to Kat to come stand near to me. She came over.
“There’s a switch on the left side there! It’s difficult to see from here…” I said, pausing as I side-stepped making a half-circle towards the portal.
“Ah, yes, here it is!” I exclaimed.
“Where?!” Said Kat moving towards the portal’s left side. She was between Daisy and me now, craning her neck, searching for the non-existent switch.
I was not proud of this but…I pushed Daisy and Kat through the portal.
Orchid
I had learnt basically nothing useful from Orla during my “Luna Lesson.” I was relieved to get away from her. I actually enjoyed getting dressed up now. I hated to admit this and perhaps it was Stockholm syndrome but I missed Orion…a lot. Every time I saw a blonde tall werewolf I jumped thinking it was him. Of course none of them were him. He was gone. He was not in the mansion at all. Perseus refused to tell me where his brother was.
“Where’s Orion?” I asked for possibly the seventh time.
“Orion?” Said Perseus, stroking his chin.
His answers to my questions had gotten increasingly less helpful. Rose gave me an apologetic smile from across the dining table.
“Orion, Orion, Orion, tall guy, about this height,” said Perseus, indicating his own height.
“No, taller, and buffer,” I said, smirking, hoping to annoy him.
“He’s had more time to train than I have,” said Perseus defensively, actually sulking because of my comment.
Rose giggled and rubbed Perseus’ shoulder comfortingly.
I sighed more dramatically than was necessary.
“The mate bond is really affecting you now, Orchid,” said Rose, looking at me in amazement.
The what?
“It was only a matter of time before I began to empathise with my captor. It happens in these situations,” I explained. “It’s tragic actually…ORION!” I squealed, jumping up and running to him.
Orion grinned widely at me. He had just come into the dining room. He lifted me off my feet, squeezing me in a big bear hug. He smelled even better to me than usual. I stuck my nose in his shirt and inhaled. I stopped myself, blushing. I was about to apologise but then I realised sniffing people was normal and socially acceptable in this place. I held his hand and he walked me back to my seat.
“Where did you go?” I asked.
“I went to organise your birthday surprise,” he admitted simply as he sat down.
“Orion!” Said Rose, annoyed. “You’re not supposed to tell her. That’s the whole point,” she chastised.
Perseus laughed.
“I didn’t tell her what the surprise is,” said Orion. “She just knows there is a surprise. Several surprises,” said Orion with a huge grin. He looked very pleased with himself.
I wondered if he had gotten me a car. I was not a very good driver though I hated to admit it. My friends would never let me drive whenever we carpooled because I drove so cautiously (they said the word “slowly” but I would say cautiously). It could not be more clothes and jewellery. I had a walk-in closet-full already.
“I am excited for my surprise,” I said, beaming at Orion.
He was rather lovable. I had to try harder and harder to be upset with him. He massaged my shoulders as the staff brought out the first course.
“May I have a hint?” I asked.
“You already love the surprises,” said Orion.
Huh.
“What?” I asked.
“That’s the hint?” I asked.
“Yes,” he said, putting extra food on my plate.
I raised my eyebrows.
“That’s not a hint,” I grumbled.
“It’s is,” he said with a sly smile.
“Give me another hint,” I said.
“No,” he said.
I sighed.
Magnus ran into the room.
“Alpha!” He said with a sense of urgency about him.
He gave Orion a meaningful look though I could not discern the meaning.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“Nothing, my Luna,” said Magnus with a bow.
Orion followed Magnus out of the dining room. I got up from my chair.
“Orchid,” said Perseus sternly.
“I have to pee,” I said, rolling my eyes.
“You always have to pee at the most convenient times,” said Perseus.
That was a low blow. He was talking about me pretending to go to the bathroom so I could look for Rose back when I walked in on the two of them.
“I’ll try to train my bladder to be more inconvenient,” I said dryly, stomping off.
I walked out into the hallway. I could hear Orion and Magnus talking around the bend. I held my breath listening.
“Are they freaking out?” Asked Orion anxiously. “I didn’t get much time to explain anything.”
“No, one’s drunk and one thinks she’s in a bunkbed,” said Magnus.
“A bunker,” corrected Orion.
What the hell were they talking about? The conversation made no sense.
“What did you call me for then?” Asked Orion, annoyed.
“Should we take the drunk one to the pack doctor?” Asked Magnus.
Was one of the warriors drunk?
“I guess, yeah, proceed with all necessary caution. Summon the doctor to make sure all is well but I’m pretty sure that one is a borderline alcoholic,” said Orion.
“Ah, I see,” said Magnus. “Just wanted to be very careful with them as they’re..”
“Yes, that’s fine. I’m glad you’re being cautious. Good call,” said Orion.
I could imagine how Magnus’ face always lit up whenever Orion was pleased with his decisions. I did not learn anything of note so I went back to the dining room.
“How was the bathroom?” Asked Perseus.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes again.
“Uneventful,” I said, feigning sadness.
Rose smiled.
“You’ll be entertained at your party,” said Perseus.
“At least, I won’t be a server at this one,” I snapped.
“Orion did that! Not me!” Said Perseus.
That was true but I would not give him the satisfaction of acting like I agreed with him. Orion returned to the table.
“Your mate went to pee in your absence,” said Perseus, immediately trying to tattle on me.
I glared at him.
“She can go wherever she wants within the grounds,” said Orion dismissively.
I gave Perseus a gloating smile. Was that true? That meant I could wander about tonight and look for my surprise.
