Sold To The Demon Alpha -
Chapter 54
Aria’s POV
“Here, let me help you get that” Scott said and before I could object, he was on the other side of the door, opening it and helping me out.
“You have something in your hair” He added and I stared up at him with a smile as he removed a piece of thread from my hair.
“Thank you.”
He stared at me for a while before he scratched the back of his head nervously and smiled. He looked like he wanted to say something but decided against it.
“Come on, let me get the supplies from the back seat. Wait for me?”
“Sure” I nodded, popping another vitamin pill.
My eyes moved towards the open field and I froze when I saw blue gray eyes staring at me, his lips in a firm line as he glared at me. No, not me. At Scott.
My eyes moved from his angry face to his naked torso that glistened with sweat and I felt my insides tighten with need and a pull towards him that I didn’t quite understand.
I forced myself to remember that he was Salem’s lover and that I had seen them with my two eyes and that there was no need wasting my time hoping for something to happen between us.
But it was hard to pretend that I didn’t feel the butterflies that danced in my belly against my will at the mere sight of him and the way my n*****s hardened against my chest as his eyes moved away from Scott and back to me.
His eyes narrowed at him in accusation and I wondered why he looked like that when he was the one who couldn’t care less that I wore my heart on my sleeve around him.
Surely, he knew how I felt about him by now and even if he didn’t, we were not an item. Not even close. So why did he look so hurt that I was merely standing beside another male?
He hadn’t even bothered to call me to play the guitar for him and I hadn’t even been able to play a song in my room without breaking into tears everytime I thought about him and Salem together.
As if I had summoned her by thinking about her, Salem walked into the open field and made a beeline for Roma.
We stopped in front of him and even though he didn’t touch her or show her any form of affection, my heart hurt just at the sight of the two of them standing together.
She looked in the direction of his stare and saw that he was looking at me. The smile that was on her face vanished and she rolled her eyes before she turned and continued speaking to him.
“Are you ready to go?” Scott announced and when he came to stand beside me, I smiled and nodded, reaching for one of the bags in his hands.
“No, I can carry it.”
“Please. Let me” I begged, trying my best to not start crying and he must have seen the expression on my face because he nodded and released the bag.
Not looking at Roma again, I walked besides Scott and asked him to tell me something funny.
By the time we reached the infirmary, I was no longer feeling teary and I had even laughed at one of his childhood stories.
“You’re a good friend.” I told him as we arranged the supplies and he grinned.
“I am?”
I nodded.
He had not been nothing but an angel since I met him and I was really grateful for him and Sophia’s friendship.
“Then, would you save me the first dance at the ball on Friday night?”
My eyes widened in surprise and I finally remembered that the ball was in about a week from now. Every member of the pack was invited and asked to dress their best, including the servants.
I didn’t even have the slightest clue on what to wear and had been too caught up in nursing my heartbreak over Roma that I had completely forgotten about it.
“I’m not sure that I want to come.”
He raised his eyebrows in question.
“Why not?”
“Because I’m human?” I answered, even though I knew that it was a lame excuse.
He rolled his eyes and reached out a hand to ruffle my hair.
“Oh come on. You’re one of us now, like it or not. Or is it the dress? Do you want to go into town to get one? I’ll come with you if I have to.”
I shook my head, my fave burning red with embarrassment. I’d probably enter the ground if he was the one that followed me to get a dress.
“I’ll ask Sophia if she can help me out.”
He threw a fist in the air excitedly and I laughed.
“So, the dance? You’ll dance with me? I would have said, be my date but you might be really busy that night and I don’t want to pressure you.”
I nodded, smiling at how thoughtful he was. But I couldn’t help wishing that Roma was here right now asking me to be his date.
How delusional.
Why was I expecting the Alpha to look at a maid and ask her to the ball as his date?
A ball where other wolves from the other packs would be in attendance.
“You look like you’re thinking about something sad.” Scott noted and I quickly shook my head, feigning a smile.
He reached into his pocket and brought out a chocolate bar and I opened my mouth in surprise.
“Now, you’re just keeping these around because you know how much I love chocolate, don’t you?” I said as excitedly as I took the bar from his hand and he shrugged.
“And what if I told you that you’re right?” He asked, his face serious and I stopped eating, the half bitten chocolate bar in my mouth.
I was about to ask why when we heard someone call his name from down the hallway.
Reaching out to wipe my cheek of the chocolate that had gotten there with his thumb, he licked his finger and smiled.
My heart started to beat faster in my chest all of a sudden.
“Help me finish up here?” He said and when I nodded, still speechless and my face red, he walked out of the store room.
What had just happened?
I made a mental note to ask Sophia about it when I saw her and I quickly finished up arranging the supplies and headed towards the kitchen where I knew my friend would be.
“And you are the little maid.” A voice said as I walked down the hallway and when I turned around, Salem was standing a few inches away from me, leaning against the wall.
Her red hair fell all over her body and she looked like the perfect damsel in distress with the sleeveless sundress that she was wearing today, her t**s threatening to spill from the dress.
Bowing, I waited for her to say something.
But she took slow steps until she was standing in front of me and then raised my chin to look at her in the eyes.
“I need you to do a couple of things for me.”
