Chapter 77
XANDER
The ride back home seemed longer than usual and Maliya spent the entire time sleeping as she rested her head on my shoulder. I couldn’t help but admire face as I watched her sleep. She is so cute when she’s sleeping and seeing her look so much at peace after the long days we spent in the Greenwood pack made me feel at ease.
“Alpha, we have arrived,” Lord Willimas announced and the carriage stopped simultaneously. I tapped Maliya gently to wake her up but she seemed to be deeply asleep.
“Hey, we have gotten home,” I whispered into her ear and she finally opened her eyes. I got out of the carriage and helped her out too, only to replace the palace completely empty.
It was strange that Madam Rosalie wasn’t here to welcome us or any of the maids for that matter. Usually, when I go on a journey, the maids would be waiting outside to help me get out and take my order as soon as I arrived but the whole place was as silent as a graveyard. I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something was wrong. I could feel it.
“Is there a problem? Why is everywhere quiet like this?” Maliya asked with a concerned look as she looked around.
“Everything is fine,” I assured her as I held her hands and we made our way inside.
“A— Alpha, welcome back,” Madam Rosalie came to join us in the hallway, looking sick which made me wonder what could be happening.
First, the entire palace was silent and now, Madam Rosalie could barely stand on her own.
“What is going on?” I furrowed my eyes as I asked out of curiosity.
Just then, a few more maids came out, looking sick and worn out too. They bowed to show their respect and I turned my attention back to Madam Rosalie to answer my question. Something is wrong. I can feel it in the pit of my stomach.
“I apologize for not coming out earlier to welcome you,” she said weakly. “How was your trip? I should have prepared a feast to welcome you, but I was so busy attending to the maids that I lost track of time,” she muttered.
“It was fine, but can you tell me why everyone is looking like that? Why are you looking sick and why is the palace so dry?” I frowned. “And why are you the one taking care of the maids? Explain so that it can make sense,” I demanded.
“I don’t know, Alpha. Everyone started feeling sick the day you left. At first, we thought maybe we were just feeling under the weather, but then the next day, we woke up and we could barely move our bodies,” she explained.
They can’t move their bodies? Seeing how the maids were limping to get here earlier, I believe she was telling the truth, but what could have caused the sudden sickness?
“This is strange. Such has never happened because and it is even more strange that everyone is sick at the same time. Is there a particular symptom that you all felt all of a sudden?” I asked and she shook her head.
“No, Alpha. It was exactly like I said. Everything was fine before we went to bed. We noticed that the atmosphere was different, but we thought it was just the weather but when we woke up, everyone was sick,” she pointed. “I think we have a plague,” she finished.
“A plague?” I asked in disbelief,
“Yes, Alpha. That is the only way to explain whatever this is because no other sickness would affect such a huge amount of people at once, and then, there are no visible rashes or injuries on our bodies, but some people’s legs are swollen, while some can’t move because they are weak. It feels like something was controlling the air and our bodies have gotten weaker,” Madam Rosalie said.
“How are you able to help others if you are equally affected?” I frown.
“Unlike the others, although I can barely move which makes me even slower, I can still move around slowly. There are some maids that can’t even stand on their own even after many attempts,” she finished.
‘Other than your assumption about this being a plague, have you found the reason for this? Did you make any replaceings to figure out what might have gone wrong?” I asked and she shook her head.
“I haven’t been able to do any replaceings since I can barely stand on my own and the maids are just as sick as I am,” she pointed.
I knew that this couldn’t be an ordinary plague. At first, Alpha Luxwell was released by an unseen force, and now this? I have a feeling that danger is coming to the pack and I’ll do everything in my power to stop it.
I could tell that someone was out for my pack. Whoever it was is playing hard to get but once I finally lay my hands on the bastard, I won’t hesitate

to kill them without a second thought.
“What do you think we should do now, Alpha Xander? We haven’t been able to call the physician because there was no one to send. Do you think the physician would know what this is?” Madam Rosalie asked but I doubt there is anything the physician can do in this situation, especially if they are using magic.
“Take all the affected maids to the building outside. None of them is permitted to work or come into the main palace until they are completely fine. We need to separate the ones that are okay and the sick ones so that everyone does not get infected,” I ordered.
“Yes, Alpha.”
I turned to Lord Williams who was standing behind me the entire time as he listened to our conversation.
“I need you to run a proper investigation on what is going on and give me feedback as soon as possible. Things can’t remain like this,” I pointed, and he nodded before excusing himself.
Madam Rosalie limped back to the room she had just come out of and I held Maliya’s hands as I guided her back into our room.
“Do you think everyone would be fine?” Maliya asked with a concerned look as soon as we stepped into the room and I nodded.
“We will replace out what is going on as soon as we can and put an end to all of it,” I assured her, and she smiled.
“I hope you replace a solution soon,” she whispered. Maliya seemed tired and she soon went to bed afterward to sleep.
No matter how hard I tried to be positive about it, I can’t help but think all of this is out of the ordinary. How can a pack like mine be suffering from a plague? There are some things that just don’t make sense.
A gentle knock resonated through the room and I stood up before Maliya could we Maliya up. I turned the doorknob to see that it was Lord Williams and I stepped out immediately.
“What did you replace?” I asked.
“Things are not good, Alpha. The majority of the people are now suffering from the infection and in no time, if care is not taken, I won’t be shocked if it affects the entire pack,” he announced.
“This is not good. I need to see things for myself,” I muttered. Lord Williams and I went into the pack to see the situation of things and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“Alpha please save us…”
“Please do something! Don’t let us die!”
“This pain is too much, come to our rescue!” They cried out in pain.
I watched how they slept on the bare floor, something that had never happened in years. Not even during my father’s regime. The pack members always keep to themselves and they are known to be classy but right now, their pride is gone as they crawl on the floor in pain and agony.
“I don’t care about anything else, just save my son… He is too small to be going through this pain,” a mother cried as I continued to walk through the pack.
“Alpha, I do not think anything can be solved with the help of the physician. I think we should summon a priest to tell us what is going on,” Lord Williams said and I sighed.
My mind went back to the words of the seers at the sound of the priest and my heart skipped a beat.
“She is going to bring disaster to the pack.” Their voices echoed in my head and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was what they were talking about.
The danger is coming. But this time, it doesn’t look like a pack is planning to attack us. Does this have to do with Maliya then? Could she really be the cause of this misfortune?
