Chapter 78

MALIYA

No matter how hard I think about it, I still replace it hard to believe that the Pack, which was in good shape before we left a few days ago, is suddenly suffering from an unknown infection.

The palace has been awfully quiet and it doesn’t seem nice a bit. I don’t feel good about what was happening and I couldn’t help but wonder if I would have gotten infected had I not followed Alpha Xander to the Greenwood pack like I had initially said.

Alpha Xander had ordered for me to be in the room, and he was pretty serious about not associating with any of the maids so that I wouldn’t get affected alongside his baby, too.

“These are the new maids that would be serving you,” he announced as he brought some new faces he hadn’t seen before. Half of their bodies were covered up and he made sure that there was enough distance between us.

“If you need anything, call for them,” he ordered and I nodded, knowing that it was not up for an argument. “Unless she calls any of you that she needs you to run an errand for her, you have absolutely nothing to do in this room, am I clear?” He asked with a frown and they nodded.

“You are dismissed,” he ordered and the maids scooted out of the room immediately.

“How long do we have to keep this up? Have you spoken to the physician? Do they know what the problem is? Are they going to replace a solution soon?” I asked impatiently.

“Everything is under control. Just listen to my orders and you have nothing to be worried about,” he assured me.

I nodded and went to bed, knowing that I wouldn’t get anything else from him, and he left the room almost immediately. I can tell that he was just as worried as I was about the sickness, and to make it worse, he is the Alpha, and the whole responsibility is on his shoulders.

I tried to get a nap since I couldn’t even take a stroll outside, but I wasn’t feeling sleepy either.

I sighed for the umpteen times as I kept

the bed until the door snapped open.

I snapped my head up to see if Alpha Xander was back, only to see Claudia walk in. I didn’t know she was permitted to come in and a smile spread across my face immediately.

She didn’t seem to be affected by the plague which makes me even happier. It would have been saddening to see her struggling to get better like the

rest too.

“Claudia!” I exclaimed as she walked in to hug me. “I missed you so much! How come you are not affected? How did you do it? Almost everyone in the palace is infected, and even those that aren’t infected are still weak to some extent,” I pointed, and she grinned.

“I don’t know how, but I’m super excited and grateful right now. If only you knew the amount of pain those people are in, you wouldn’t even ask me this,” she said, and only then did I realize how insensitive my question was.

“Pardon my manner, but you know that is not what I meant,” I pointed and she waved it off with a smile.

“I’m so glad you are fine though. I saw Madam Rosalie, and she seemed to be struggling pretty badly. What happened is still a mystery but I can imagine the kind of pain those people would be in right now.”

way one was crying bitterly last night. It hasn’t been easy,” she muttered.

“Trust me, they are in so much pain.

I could tell that much from the

adamant about his rules about not seeing me outside,I said.

He is only trying to protect you,” Claudia assured and I nodded.

“I know, but now I’m about to die of boredom because I can’t even leave the room even if I want to,” I rolled my eyes.

“Well, now that I’m here, you don’t have to feel lonely anymore, she joked and I chuckled. “Do you want to wash your hair? I can help you,” Claudia suggested, and it suddenly drew on me that I had washed my hair in a few days.

“I don’t mind; I have been feeling so lazy all along,” I confessed,

“Well, you have me now,” she winked. “Come on, get

and she chuckled.

“Oh, shut up,” I joked.

We went into the bathroom together and I honestly couldn’t help but feel excited about it. Claudia arranged the shampoo on the floor while I got into the bathtub. My body felt at ease the moment I slipped into the matter and I let out a moan.

‘One would think you are up to something if they hear that sound“, Claudia joked, and I laughed with her.

she clapped her hands, and I’m suddenly feeling bubbling again, all thanks to her.

She started washing my hair gently, and I felt so much at ease. “How did things go at the Greenwood Pack?” Claudia broke the silence and my mind went back to everything.

I haven’t thought of anything that happened in the Greenwood Pack since I came back but now, Claudia has reminded me. I stayed quiet for a while as I contemplated between telling her what happened or skipping some parts, but I ended up telling her everything.

“Alpha Xander really surprised me, I must confess. He killed Alpha on the day of his coronation for trying to force himself on me, and even went as far as killing my stepmother and sister for all the years of bullying and me and my father who never took my side,” I confessed. I couldn’t see her expression since she was still washing my hair but she went quiet for a while before speaking up.

“Did Alpha Xander really do all of that?” She seemed to be just as surprised as I was and I confirmed again.

“He did. I never thought a day would come in my life when someone would take my side, but he did,” I muttered, still feeling grateful to him as I thought about everything.

“How do you feel about it though? Are you grateful that he killed those people for you? They might have hurt you before, but they are still your family,” Claudia pointed, and I went quiet for a while. It was true that I felt a little guilty when it happened but it wasn’t my fault that they were cruel

to me too.

I never did anything to deserve that cruel treatment from them, hence, I feel no remorse towards them for what happened. But I don’t know if I could say the same about my feelings though.

“Why are you not talking?” Claudia snapped me out of my truce, and I sighed in response.

“The truth is, I’m confused about a lot of things, especially my feelings for Alpha Xander. One moment, he is so good to me that it melts my heart, and the next, well, you know how he is,” I whispered.

“With time, you will be sure of what you feel for him, but if there is anything I’m certain about, it is the fact that Alpha Xander feels nothing for you,” she said harshly, making me feel a bit sad.

“I

mean, Alpha Xander is self–centered and has no heart to care not to talk or feel something for someone else. He is known to be wicked and by now, you should know that none of the rumors were jokes. He is only with you because you are carrying his child,” she reminded me of my position in his life and I couldn’t say it was pleasing to hear.

I went quiet for a while, and she seemed to finally realize what she said.

“Omg! I’m so sorry, Maliya; I don’t mean to offend you; I just got carried away in the moment. I’m so sorry,” she apologized immediately.

If what you are worried about is me telling Alpha Xander, then you have nothing to worry about,” I laughed and she joined me.

“I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings. I was just…”

“It’s fine, really,” I smiled and she nodded.

While Claudia was washing my hair, I felt a little sting in my hair, making me wince out of pain.

“What happened? Is there a problem?Claudia asked.

“No, I’m fine,” I assured her and she continued to wash my hair.

She soon finished washing my hair and just when I thought she would stay over to help me style it and just keep my company for a little more time, she broke the silence.

“Erm… I need to leave now,” she said as soon as we returned to the room.

“Do you need to go? There is nothing much to do anyway,” I pointed.

“I still need to clean, though,” she pointed, and I knew it would be insensitive to stop her from going back to her work, but I couldn’t help the strange way I was starting to feel as soon as she left the room.
