Chapter 1080 Shabby
When he heard Alex's last name, Horace's face noticeably faltered. The chairman of Four Seas Corporation is also a Jefferson. Given that today's gathering is meant to honor the chairman, could it be that this young man sitting in front of me is, in fact, the chairman of Four Seas Corporation?
This possibility sent a shiver of cold sweat down Horace's plump figure as he straightened his body slightly. Cautiously, he attempted to clarify as he asked, "Ah, you're also a Jefferson! I remember that the chairman of Four Seas Corporation shares the very same last name as well. Could you be one and the
same?"
Alex let out a soft chuckle and said, "How could I possibly be the chairman of Four Seas Corporation? He is such an exalted figure, after all. We merely share a common last name. Now, Mr. Hernandez, aren't you good friends with Mr. Jefferson? How come you don't know what he looks like?"
Horace realized his blunder upon hearing this. Hastily, he lifted a glass to toast Alex. "I haven't seen him in many years. People change, am I right? It's quite normal that I'm mistaken."
After the toast, Horace leaned toward Stefan and whispered, "Stefan, didn't you invite Mr. Jefferson here? Why hasn't he shown up yet? Even if he's a person of great importance, he shouldn't be this late, right? Never mind that Mr. Jefferson is not here yet, but look at this young man who lacks any discernment. His clothes probably only cost a few thousand at most, and they're so new. It's so obvious that he's bought them for an occasion to meet someone important. I bet that he's spent all his savings on them!"
Stefan was at a loss for words as he widened his eyes incredulously at his dense cousin. He finally understood why Horace's business never really took off. It would be a miracle that Horace would be able to accomplish anything at all with that level of incompetence of his.
The person of interest, Alex, had been sitting there all along, yet Horace failed to recognize the man. Not only that, but he had also mistaken Alex as a penniless youngster not worthy of his attention.
If Alex hadn't signaled at him, Stefan would have yelled some senses back into Horace. The broke young man sitting right in front of you is the very chairman of Four Seas Corporation whom you're trying to butter up!
Alex was an especially perceptive man. Having listened to Horace's remarks, he didn't expect to still be viewed as unimpressive even though he was dressed decently.
Do I really look that pathetic and radiate such an aura of destitution?
During their conversation, Wesley incessantly talked to Autumn, with most of the conversation initiated by Wesley while Autumn merely responded out of politeness.
Anyone sensible would realize that Autumn was reluctant to engage, but Wesley, apparently having inherited his father's obliviousness, didn't notice and continued to chatter.
Autumn deliberately moved her chair closer to Alex in a glaringly obvious attempt to avoid Wesley. Despite that, Wesley remained ignorant and tenaciously moved his chair to Autumn's side
"Autumn, are you getting shy? I didn't realize I'm such a charmer to be able to enamor a beauty like you. It is indeed my honor." Wesley chuckled, delusionally thinking Autumn's actions were borne out of her fondness for him.
Autumn grew speechless. She had never met anyone as dense as Wesley, incensed by his daft remarks.
She was at a loss of how to reply to the man and instead lowered her head to continue eating as she pretended that she hadn't heard Wesley in the first place.
"Stefan, just look at how Autumn and Wesley are a perfect match for each other!" Horace jovially parted his cousin's shoulders.
Stefan's face turned grim at Horace's words. It became apparent that Horace had ulterior motives, not only seeking to leverage Stefan's connections to network with the chairman of Four Seas Corporation but also intending to meddle in the romantic life of Stefani's daughter, Autumn, by playing matchmaker with Wesley.
