Spoiled by Eight Uncles (Lily) -
Chapter 1356 A Dialogue That Makes No Sense
The old man gazed at the teacup before him, remaining silent for an extended period.
Perplexed, he couldn't replace an answer to his question. The last time the little girl spoke to him, his emotions seemed to have somewhat brightened up, and when he watched her depart, it seemed as though his state of mind had opened up, leaving him with nothing to worry about.
However, that particular confusion had returned, and he still couldn't solve it.
Apart from the confusion in his heart, there was another matter he couldn't let go of.
During the year when his obsession took hold and manifested, he was caught off guard and fell under its control, even leading him to have an affair with a palace maid working at Emperor Prosper's palace. Afterward, he fell into darkness and remained unconscious for a long time, and when he finally awoke, he realized that everything was irreparable.
In the end, he was trapped here.
The old man let out a light sigh, unsure if there was any possibility of atoning for his sins.
As the old man poured tea into a cup before an empty space, reminiscing about everything, Lilly also happened to be thinking of the old man. She and Ivan had already left the cave where the Earth Goddess resided and were on their way to replace her father and Crawford Ancestor. "What are you thinking about?" Ivan asked.
Lilly contemplated for a moment and replied, "Ivan, I know where King Earthid is, but it seems like he doesn't want to come out on his own.
Ivan was somewhat surprised. She knows about King Earthid's whereabouts? In that case, among the Five Emperors of the Underworld, everyone had already gathered here except for Emperor Eastmount. Emperor Prosper, Emperor Greenbow, Earth Goddess, and King Earthid...
He suddenly felt a sense of urgency because, according to the Stone Scroll's records, the Five Emperors of the Underworld had to work together to send her away, which required breaking free from the constraints of heaven and earth.
But now... Was he the weakest one?
Then, he suddenly thought of the Earth Goddess.
Hmm, the Earth Goddess' strength is at the bottom, so I'm not the weakest one.
Lilly didn't know what Ivan was thinking. After the battle with the black-robed man, she recalled the question Crawford Ancestor had asked her before: 'Why are you and your father so insistent on breaking free from the constraints of the Manifestation of God's will?'
'To break free from the Manifestation of God's will, you're even willing to die and start over again... Since the future is bleak, why can't you stop and be content with your current strength?' Indeed, now that she and Ivan could defeat that black-robed man together, given a little more time to grow, she would definitely be able to defeat the black-robed man on her own.
Both she and her father were already the most powerful in the underworld, and she had the support of the Earth Goddess and her friends, the King of Styx and the King of Transformation.
Besides that, her ancestor, Crawford Ancestor, still ruled the desolate land's real estate industry, possessing power and wealth.
Therefore, she could roam freely in the underworld and live happily with her family.
Why must she break free from the Manifestation of God's will?
"Ivan, why do you think we have to break free from the Manifestation of God's will?" Lilly asked him, also questioning herself.
The answer in her heart was evident.
Ivan had always been alone and got to this position by himself.
He had experienced more direct, bloody, and brutal battles than Lilly.
"Perhaps the Manifestation of God's will is a competition." Ivan smiled. "There are limited resources, and everyone is fighting for them. If you don't eliminate others, they will eventually come back to eliminate you when they become as powerful as you. Secondly, competition isn't just about killing. Making others fear, hesitate, and avoid is also a consequence of competition. In the end, the winner would be forced into a corner and at the manipulator's mercy."
Lilly fell silent.
Something seemed to have cracked inside her heart, sounding like a cocoon breaking open.
She was enlightened.
"I understand now!" Her eyes sparkled with brilliance, and she eagerly exclaimed, "Thank you, Ivan!"
But then a problem arose, and she became anxious.
"Oh no, I can't hold it any longer!" Lilly spun around.
The small ghost beast sleeping on her shoulder opened its eyes and looked up in confusion. "Squeak?"
Ivan instinctively said, "I-I'll replace a place for you."
He scanned the surroundings and finally pointed to a location. "I don't feel safe for you to go too far. You get it done here, and I'll turn around. I won't look."
After saying that, he turned his back to Lilly.
Lilly said, "No... I can't do it now. I have to replace my parents and Crawford Ancestor. I'm afraid they'll worry..."
That made Ivan puzzled. Finding someone and going to the bathroom shouldn't conflict, right?
"It won't take much time," he said.
Lilly shook her head, her face turning red from holding it in. "No, no... It'll take a long time..."
With confusion in his eyes, Ivan was still facing away from her, saying, "It wouldn't take too long..."
Lilly said, "No. Sometimes, it would be just a day or two, but sometimes, a whole year goes by in a flash!"
Ivan was at a loss for words.
He couldn't control his thoughts and suddenly imagined someone going to the bathroom for a day or two and sometimes even a year.
Wait...
Ivan suddenly realized what was happening and quickly turned around to look at Lilly, whose face had turned red from holding her breath.
She seemed anxious or perhaps lost in her thoughts and unconsciously fell into a vague state of enlightenment. Even her gaze became somewhat unfocused.
"Lilly!" Ivan exclaimed, realizing the situation and making a quick decision. "You go ahead and do what you need to do. I'll watch over you."
Then, he swiftly took out three small hexagons with a futuristic look and placed them next to Lilly, gently pressing her shoulders to make her sit down. "I'll replace your parents and Crawford Ancestor!"
Lilly wanted to say something but saw Ivan shaking his head slightly.
His gaze was determined and unwavering, which inexplicably put her at ease.
"Thank you, Ivan."
Lilly murmured, closing her eyes and instantly entering a state of enlightenment.
The small ghost beast perched on her shoulder sensed something and immediately grew excited.
Squeak! Squeak! Enlightenment! Squeak! I can bask in her enlightenment! Squeak!
However, Ivan intervened the next moment.
"Please do not disturb her."
He gently set the small ghost beast aside, and it protested, "Squeak! Squeak!"
