Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 714
Anya's heart raced, almost leaping out of her chest. Her innocent eyes, now laced with anxiety, widened as she struggled to steady her breath. "Chad..." Leo chuckled softly, "Anya, I've warned you before. Knowing too much about men can be dangerous."
He leaned in closer, and Anya, with nowhere to retreat, shut her eyes tight in fright.
After a few seconds, Anya noticed that Chad hadn't touched her. She slowly opened her eyes to replace him inches away. "Chad, I... I don't understand you anymore." Leo smirked, "Silly girl, I was just teasing you."
He leaned back in his seat. "Anya, that's twice now. If you 'get' me again, I won't let you off the hook so easily next time."
Anya's heart was still pounding. She took a moment to calm her breathing before trying to discreetly open the car door.
"If I really wanted to do something to you, running out wouldn't help. Close the door, lie down, and get some sleep."
Leo grabbed a spare set of clothes from the trunk and draped them over Anya. "Sleep in the car."
Anya watched Leo recline his seat. She glanced at Chad, wondering why he had suddenly agreed to this job when no one had forced him.
But the memory of the earlier scare kept her silent.
She reclined her seat slowly, lying down and staring out at the night sky through the car's skylight, the stars twinkling a sight she couldn't see back in Havenbrook.
After a moment, Anya thought of her family and asked quietly, "Chad, have you been in touch with your family?"
Leo didn't respond, seemingly asleep.
Not wanting to disturb him, Anya sent a quick message to Mia to let her know she was safe, then put her phone away.
Meanwhile, at the Cedillo household...
Mia had just finished a "three-hundred-round battle" with her son, her sleeves and half her body soaked. Finally, she handed her crying son over to his father to cool down. "Mia, your phone's ringing," Andre said, holding their son, whose eyelashes were still wet with tears.
"I'll get it in a minute," Mia replied.
Andre looked down at the little bundle in his arms, "Your mom's just looking out for you. You can't drink your bathwater. You act like we're starving you, thrashing around until Mia had to step in." Henry pouted, feeling wronged that his mom wouldn't let him drink his bathwater.
Wrapped in a towel and a shower cap, Mia looked at her son, also wrapped in a towel, and pointed at him accusingly, "You're sleeping with your dad tonight. How do you get so dirty? How did I, who's so clean, end up with such a grubby son? I don't know who you take after." She then looked pointedly at her husband.
Andre defended himself immediately, "I'm a clean freak."
Mia turned her gaze back to their tearful son, "Your grandpa also loves cleanliness. You're the odd one out in this family."
Henry began to cry, his eyes turning pink, looking like a little orphan unloved by all.
Mia saw the message on her phone, "Aunt, Chad and I won't be home tonight. We're at North Hill. Don't worry about us."
Putting her concerns aside, Mia turned off her phone and went to hug her son, a mix of disgust and care, "Honey, get his white pajamas with the blue trim from the wardrobe. Let's send him to my dad's tonight." Andre retrieved the pajamas, noting how many clothes their son had accumulated. "We should tell everyone to stop buying him clothes. He can't even wear all the ones he has, and some still have tags on." Mia sighed, "It's no use. He's everyone's little darling. My parents even bought him two more outfits recently."
Andre carried their son, who had moved from drinking bathwater to wanting to eat his feet, and handed him over, "Let's send him to my dad. He adores him the most, so let them spend the night together." Naturally, Andre didn't mind, taking their son to his father.
Hansen, upon receiving his grandson in the middle of the night, asked, "What's up with my grandson now?"
"Drinking bathwater, wanting to eat his feet. We're fed up."
Hansen chided the couple, "How can you be parents if you're disgusted by such small things?"
Andre replied, "The bathwater had cleaned his behind."
Hansen conceded, "Well, that's a valid reason to be disgusted."
Taking his grandson, Hansen closed the door to play with him, leaving Andre to return to his bedroom where Mia was already video chatting with her sister.
Both in their bathrooms, "Mia, Leo and Anya aren't coming home tonight?"
"Up North Hill. Leo got promoted today, now he's the executive officer."
Molly, applying eye patches, was surprised, "No way, Leo isn't thinking of..."
Hearing Andre enter, Molly quickly changed the subject, "I heard from my mom. Seems like many are inquiring about Leo."
Mia suggested, "If you're free tomorrow, come over after Chad gets back. We haven't gathered in a while, and Leo will probably be back by then."
Molly, still in the bathroom, loudly called, "Chad? Chad, are you there?"
Chad, used to walking around shirtless, answered nonchalantly. Molly quickly turned her phone away before asking him, "Are you free tomorrow night? Let's have dinner at my place." "Sure, replace me at the station after work. The gatekeeper and your neighbors have been asking about you," Chad agreed, staying off-screen. After agreeing, he went back to his bedroom.
Molly adjusted her phone, spritzing her face with a hydrating mist, "Ah, can't even keep a low profile if I wanted. Too popular."
Mia: "I swear, Molly, if you pass on your vanity to my son, I'll have words with you. Leo got his aunt's sharp tongue, and my son? He got her melodrama. Let's hope he doesn't inherit any more of your flaws." Molly, patting her cheeks with a grin, replied, "Oh, how I wish you'd have a niece for me. I wouldn't pass on any of my bad habits, just my good looks."
