Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 769
Mia had no clue that just by being her natural, unadorned self, she had caught the eye of her brother's classmates. Right now, she was wrestling with his complicated class schedule, holding her husband's phone in her left hand and a freshly downloaded translation app in her right.
As she strolled through the school grounds, glancing occasionally at the phone in her left hand while typing into the app with her right, her dedication stood out. Even her study sessions back in school didn't see this level of seriousness. Her chubby-cheeked son, Henry, watched in fascination, too afraid to disturb his focused mom, lest he get a playful scolding.
Andre, her husband, trailed along patiently, stopping whenever she did, never rushing her, and even keeping an eye on the path ahead. "Which word combo is tripping you up now?" he asked gently.
Mia leaned into him, her voice soft and teasing, "Honey, I don't get this. Why do they use so many abbreviations?"
Andre, always a sucker for her playful tone, cradled their child in one arm while wrapping the other around her shoulders. "Ethics or Applied Sciences in Engineering," he explained.
Mia sighed, "Why does it have to be so complicated?"
Pointing to another section, she pouted, "What about this one?"
"Empirical and Mathematical Reasoning," he responded.
She shook her head, "Might as well be Greek to me."
Andre glanced at her brother Cooper's schedule, nodding approvingly. "Cooper's got it figured out. The kid knows what he wants and doesn't need us setting goals for him." "How can you tell?" Mia asked, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks before her.
Eventually, she decided to stop overthinking it, figuring she only needed to remember what time Cooper finished school. The specifics of his classes were beyond her concern. After class, Cooper was usually surrounded by academic discussions. But since his sister's visit, everyone wanted to sit with him.
Cooper soon realized everyone was angling to be his "brother-in-law."
He explained tiredly, "She's my sister. She's married. And she has a kid."
His classmates were skeptical. "Are you trying to keep us away because you have a crush on her? Afraid we'll become your competition?" Exasperated, Cooper held his head in his hands. "Fine. You want to ask her? She'll be here to pick me up after school. Go ahead."
Sure enough, Mia stood outside the classroom, snapping a selfie to commemorate picking up her brother.
Mia had picked Cooper up from kindergarten and elementary school. Back then, he'd dash to her after school, proud to have his sister by his side.
But those moments had ceased after she left for high school.
Soon, students began pouring out of the classroom.
Cooper followed, "Okay, ask away."
Mia was bewildered. "What?"
Levi approached her, "Hi, I'm Levi. We're having a party tonight, and I'd love for you to join us. Are you free?"
Mia: "..."
Another tall man stepped forward, "Hello, I'm from Spain, and I'd like to be your friend."
Mia: "..."
She glanced back and forth between the two, eventually looking at her brother with confusion. "What are they saying? This is harder to understand than my son's baby talk."
Cooper quipped, "This English isn't 'baby talk."
The two men continued to invite her in English.
Mia started to panic, her limited vocabulary failing her.
Then, she felt a pang of admiration for her brother, who could communicate effortlessly.
"Help me out, please," Mia pleaded with her brother.
Remembering the morning scuffle and how she had dragged him to class, Cooper saw his chance for revenge. "Dream on. You think you're tough? Didn't foresee your English being inadequate, huh?" Before long, Andre arrived with Henry.
Downstairs, Henry had drawn a crowd, especially the girls, who were keen to greet him.
After all, Henry was seen as a "foreigner" overseas, sparking curiosity.
Despite his shyness, hiding in his father's neck with only his clear, gem-like eyes visible, he was adored.
Andre, not one for the attention, carried his son upstairs.
Upon reaching the third floor, Andre spotted his wife from afar, scratching her head in confusion.
"Henry to the rescue!" Henry shouted.
Mia's lifeline had arrived. She waved at her husband and son, her gestures endearing. "Honey, come over. Help me translate."
Mia had already charmed her husband, and the two interested classmates were even more smitten.
Andre approached, "What's up?"
Cooper explained in English, "Two of my classmates saw my sister this afternoon and want to get to know her, to pursue her as a girlfriend."
Understanding, Andre kept his expression neutral. He looked down at his wife, who was again lost. She gazed up at him, her voice sweet, "Honey, help me understand, please. My English is only good for written exams, not conversation. It's tough." Andre faced the two classmates. "I'm her husband. Whatever it is, discuss it with me."
Mia, seizing the moment, escaped with Henry. "Honey, I'm leaving this to you. I'm out of here."
As she left, she shot her brother a warning look. "You'll see!"
The classmates couldn't believe it. "She's really married?"
Andre confirmed, "The child in her arms is our son. Consider this misunderstanding forgiven. But let it not happen again."
Cooper reassured his classmates, "Guys, back off. Didn't you realize you're facing Andre? Don't you know the school gossip about my brother-in-law being Andre?"
Mia, holding her child at a safe distance, sneaked peeks at the conversation, occasionally kissing her son.
Soon, the two classmates bowed to Andre and retreated.
Andre then asked his brother-in-law, "Anyone else interested in your sister?"
"Our class only had those two who couldn't see straight. They even found her aggression cute. Everyone else values their life."
The two approached Mia, and she quickly asked, "Honey, what were those two up to just now?" Then, she turned to Cooper, "Did you get into trouble at school again? Did they come to me because they know I'm your sister, looking for an explanation?" She had been too afraid to approach them earlier, wracking her brain on how to ask if they had a beef with her brother.
Cooper replied, "...Sis, scientists should study your brain; they'd definitely make a groundbreaking discovery."
