Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 783
Early the next morning, Anya's suitcase was set by the door, with Naomi's beautifully wrapped gift perched on top.
Hansen was reluctant to see his family leave. "Anya, make sure you video call Grandpa when you get home. Come back early once the holiday is over."
Anya nodded. "Grandpa, make sure you go to bed early and don't stay up late playing video games. It's not good for your health."
Hansen stubbornly replied, "Grandpa doesn't play."
Andre also chimed in, "Listen to your parents when you get home. If you want to come back, we'll come to pick you up."
Anya, with her backpack on, took one last look at her family sending her off, her gaze lingering on Henry with reluctance. "Henry, sister is leaving now. I will miss you."
Henry yawned cooperatively, then flopped his head onto his dad's face, showing off their close father-son bond.
"Auntie, make sure you send me lots of baby videos."
Mia pointed at her son, "Why don't you take him with you?"
Anya: "...Okay." She was actually about to reach out and pick up the baby.
Bruce laughed. "Mia, don't joke about that."
Mia laughed, "Big brother, I'm just kidding. Don't worry, your little nephew isn't going anywhere. If Anya took him, she'd have to bring him back crying before even getting on the highway."
Just before leaving, Anya got her wish to hold Henry for a while, gently kissing his little cheeks several times, her eyes locked on the adorable little bundle in her arms. "Sister Anya has to go now. I'll miss you." Henry stuck out his tongue, looking obediently at Anya, then turned his head to watch his parents.
Since Leo was coming back in the afternoon, he drove to the doorstep, and everyone went out to send Anya off. Upon seeing his uncle holding the baby, Leo felt inexplicably nervous again, "Uncle..." Andre, looking at Anya, reminded her, "Drive safely."
Everyone knew who that advice was really for.
Anya was sitting in the passenger seat, but the real driver was often the one being reminded to "drive safely."
Anya was caught between her uncle and boyfriend like a "shield," "We will, Uncle. Don't worry."
Seeing his brother and sister leave by car, Henry also wanted to go out and make a scene.
"Ah- Beep beep, ahh, Dad mmm" Henry's gaze followed Leo's car as it drove away, the little guy wishing he could sprout wings and fly after it.
Andre gently turned his son's face back toward him. "Let's go back inside."
"Wu- Wu wah, beep beep Dad wah" No sooner had Henry been carried back inside than his cries could be heard.
His mouth wide open, his eyes squeezed shut.
His mother, curious, pulled her father-in-law aside to ponder. "Dad, have you noticed my son always cries with his eyes closed, but where do the tears come from?" Hansen thought his daughter-in-law raised a very good question, also looking puzzled at his little grandson's crying face, wondering, "Yeah, where do they come from?" Naomi came over to look at the crying little bundle. "Maybe there are so many tears they just overflow?"
Andre wiped his son's tears. "Don't cry, Daddy will take you out to play this afternoon."
Henry continued to cry.
Eventually, Grandpa pushed the stroller, taking him to the lawn to watch the morning's sprinkler show, which slowly calmed Henry's cries.
Leo parked the car by the roadside in the city center, unbuckling his seatbelt. "Stay in the car, don't move. I'm going to buy something." Anya nodded.
Then, she watched as Leo went into a fruit store and soon came out with a bag of fruit.
He quickly returned to the driver's seat. "I've already washed them for you using the store's water. It can get boring on a long drive, have some fruit when we get on the highway." Anya pouted, feeling wronged. "Leo, I want to eat meat."
Leo glanced at his girlfriend, teasing, "You're quite the handful."
After saying that, he drove by a newly opened butcher shop halfway and bought Anya a large chicken leg. "Will this do?"
Anya nodded.
Leo drove towards the highway, stopping at a gas station before getting on it. After turning off the engine, he told the attendant, "Fill it up."
He then went inside the gas station, bought a case of drinks, opened a few bottles, and thoughtfully unscrewed the caps, handing them to Anya in the passenger seat.
Anya ate and drank in the car while Leo went to pay. After leaving the gas station, he asked, "Why the sudden craving for meat? You used to be easy to feed, eating anything given to you without being picky. You loved fruits to the point of overeating. Now suddenly, you "want meat?" Anya bit into the large chicken leg. "I miss the baby. I'll let food heal my longing. Fruits aren't real food, meat is."
Leo chuckled. "You miss the little guy, so you're turning yourself into a little guy by eating?"
Then, a chicken leg was extended toward Leo's mouth, but he turned his head slightly. "I'm pretty happy, no need for healing."
The road was busy with many forks.
Anya prepared to use navigation, but Leo said, "No need, I remember the way."
"Huh? You've only been to my place twice."
Leo grinned. "Twice is enough. You play on your phone. If you want to listen to music, just connect to Bluetooth."
Anya shook her head. "I don't want to listen to music."
The car was quiet, with the two occasionally exchanging words, making Anya happier than listening to music.
Mia held her crying son again, who became more difficult to manage as he grew, crying so hard in the air-conditioned room that he was sweating profusely, even losing one of his shoes in the process. Naomi came over. "Mia, is the baby feeling unwell?"
Mia shook her head. "No, he's just tired but can't sleep, making a fuss."
Soon, Andre's car started up in the yard, and Henry turned his head towards the window.
After a few minutes, Andre returned to the living room. "Let's put him in the car."
Mia carried him out, placing him in the driver's seat next to her husband. She sat beside him, gently patting her son's bottom and humming a lullaby to coax him to sleep.
Henry's little hands explored his dad's car, touching the armrest with his fingers, trying to prop his feet up on the steering wheel but failing due to his short legs, a slightly awkward moment-
Sitting in the passenger seat, the father smiled at this action. "Little short legs, just like your mom."
Mia blew on her husband's face. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Go replace that lost shoe for your son."
Andre didn't dare to make any more comments.
For some reason, the car seemed even more comfortable than his parents' arms, and before long, the exhausted Henry fell asleep on his side.
"Darling, I've been thinking about something. This morning, what Dad mentioned made me realize, Anya's gone back to her place, and Leo's not around. Molly's been staying with the Byrnes, leaving just Dad and Naomi at home. It feels oddly empty. How about we don't rush back home for now? Let's stay here for a few days, wait until Dad's fussing has died down a bit, then we can go back home with the kids?"
Andre's eyes lit up with a smile as he looked at his wife. "I'd follow you and our children anywhere. All these family matters, I'll let you decide."
