Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo -
Chapter 420
Cody did not appear in Winston Hotel again after the stunt Lana pulled.
However, just a few days later, major media outlets began to report on the rumors of Cody's affair with Yvonne. The articles featured the same set of photos, with a minimal time difference in their upload timestamps.
The photos were taken without their knowledge, with angles that either showed their profiles or captured them from behind. The entire picture was blurry, and the dim lighting in the background only allowed for vague outlines of the two individuals.
From the photos that revealed their profiles, it was possible to vaguely identify Cody and Yvonne as the main characters. To further enhance the credibility, the media even provided high-definition front-facing photos of the two as a comparison.
The sequence of several photos told a complete story. Cody drove to the set to pick up Yvonne after work. They had dinner together at a luxurious restaurant and finally stayed at one of Cody's properties until the next morning when he drove Yvonne back to the Winston Hotel, where the cast was staying.
Yvonne was currently rising in her career and had always portrayed the image of an innocent and pure actress. Suddenly being exposed for getting involved with a married man dealt a heavy blow to her. Moreover, the photos served as concrete evidence, making it impossible for her company and fans to whitewash the situation. They could only remain silent.
Cody had always been a person in the limelight. Initially, his divorce from Ruby caused a huge commotion due to the alleged affair between Kevan and Ruby. Then, his marriage to Lana made headlines again when Kevan fell into a coma due to a gunshot wound.
Anyone with the slightest interest in gossip would know all about him.
Numerous online comments were calling Cody and Yvonne adulterers. They left derogatory comments on Yvonne's social media pages, which eventually led her to disable comments. They flooded Soaring Corporation's official Twitter, so much so that the account manager's fingers cramped while deleting their comments. They even went to the official Twitter account of "Time of Childhood" and demanded a boycott of Yvonne. They wanted her out of the drama.
Upon hearing the news, Larissa began to worry.
However, her concern was not about the scandal itself but rather about the potential consequences for "Time of Childhood." If the drama were to be put on hold due to Yvonne's situation, if the cast and crew called it a day and ended the project, what would happen to the hotel's sales for the quarter?
Furthermore, on the day the scandal broke, Yvonne and her assistant hurriedly left the hotel, dragging their luggage with them.
They left in a hurry, choosing a time when fewer people were around. They successfully avoided passersby but not the reporters who were waiting outside the hotel.
According to the front desk staff, the scene was chaotic, and Yvonne looked extremely disheveled. Reporters shoved microphones in her face, knocking off her baseball cap and sunglasses, which fell to the ground. In the end, it was the hotel security who intervened, separating the reporters and allowing her to get into the car safely.
Fortunately, the entire "Time of Childhood" cast had not left the hotel. Only Yvonne had departed, while the rest of the cast remained and continued to work, filming scenes that didn't involve the female lead. Larissa had made inquiries, but there was no definitive decision from the production company regarding whether they would replace the female lead or wait for the storm to pass before resuming to film Yvonne's scenes.
However, the drama had no plans to be canceled, so at least the hotel's sales were secured.
One day, there was an outbreak of chickenpox in the kindergarten, with more than ten students falling ill, including Aster.
Larissa rushed over immediately upon receiving the call from the homeroom teacher. The kindergarten had isolated the sick children in the infirmary, separating them from the other students. When Larissa arrived, she saw a group of sickly children with red spots all over their bodies. They looked a little terrifying.
Larissa suddenly remembered her childhood. She recalled having chickenpox around the second grade. Back then, Yvette had locked her inside a room every day to prevent her from infecting Lana. She wasn't allowed to step outside, even for a moment. The nanny would bring her meals and change the bedpan regularly-her room didn't have a toilet, so she had to use a bedpan for her physiological needs, resulting in a constant pungent smell in the room.
She couldn't remember how she survived those days, enduring the physical and psychological torment that kept her awake all night.
But fortunately, she was not Yvette, and Aster was not her.
When she found Aster, the doctor explained that Aster was one of the children who had fallen seriously ill in the group. After experiencing vomiting and diarrhea for a while, he finally fell asleep after taking medication.
