Alonso gathered that every once in a while, somebody from the royal table would come out and address them generally in the name of the King. He could see the same man who had done the intros come out to address them yet again.

“In the name of His Royal Majesty King Pedro, I welcome the seven great pure bloodline lineages. The King says he needs to acknowledge and honor the true alpha amongst these significant ancestries. I’m talking about Alpha Alonso De Sina Marcovic of the De Sina Pack. who His Royal Majesty has invited to take a seat with him as the highest level of guest in our midst today.”

“Aww, come on now, don’t be so modest, my friend!” Piccolo Durante said, nudging Alonso. “We don’t honor you enough on this end, so cling to honor wherever you replace it.”

“Gosh, I hate attention,” Alonso murmured as he rose to go to his special seat amongst the Royal B***d Family.

‘Do I truly deserve to be honored?’ Alonso wondered inwardly. ‘Just because I am a true Alpha does not mean that I deserve such glory as this!’

As for him, he had not contributed to the werewolf community, just like his predecessors, so he felt undeserving of the recognition. Still contemplating his walk down to the table, Alonso heard the two doors to the great hall swing open, and Callisto and his pack subjects entered full swing.

Alonso gained more pride as he walked even more confidently to the King’s corner. Callisto’s eyes could not stop looking at him. Even from a distance, Alonso could tell that Callisto harbored a certain resentment towards him.

“Now that we all gathered, His Majesty the King will tell us why we are here on this historic day!”

The entire place fell silent. The meeting took place in the great hall of the Moonlight kingdom, in Russia, where the royals reside. It was where every ceremony or grand meeting took place. It was big enough to accommodate about ten thousand people, but the people present in the meeting were not as many.

The chairs were arranged according to status. The king and his queen had the most prominent seat at the very front of the hall. His special advisor was his first son, Collins. Alonso could not recognize the rest that sat beside him, but he knew they were all nobles of each pack.

Everyone else was sitting opposite the royal family. The first role represented significant Alphas and their Lunas; the next role represented their Beta and their mates, then the rest were Gammas and omega’s and pack members. He recognized a few people, like the warrior of the moonlight pack, Rayleigh.

Rayleigh Bentover was one of the finest fighters in the wolf community, and she also had her way of getting any man she wanted in her bed. For years Rayleigh had done her best to sleep with him. Many said it was a kind of an achievement for her. Each man she slept with increased her power as a fighter.

The rumor was so strong that it made Alonso stay away from her. Since he arrived, Rayleigh had not tried to say a word to him, so Alonso suspected that she had gone past her useless phase of sleeping around, which was a mighty relief to him.

Callisto was amongst the crowd, too, and Alonso made eye contact with him. The man had been glaring at him, even after coming late to the meeting. He and his pack were the last ones to arrive, and it didn’t speak well of him. Some packs had come from distant countries to be present in the meeting, yet, he could not manage to be on time.

So as not to appear that he was backing out in fear, Alonso kept his gaze focused on his foe from across the room. He hated the man to the very core.

‘Calm down, Alonso, control yourself,’ Mazza’s mind linked with Alonso, and he instantly looked away from Callisto to face his grandfather. He was displeased that he was the first to break eye contact, but after realizing their upholding of each other’s gaze was childish, he let it go.

‘I am calm,’ he responded over the link too.

‘Your eyes look like you want to kill the man,’ Mazza continued in his head. ‘Everyone is watching you, so control yourself. You’re amid great dignitaries.’

‘I understand,’ Alonso responded and averted his gaze from the crowd. He silently hoped that none of Callisto’s people would do anything to anger him before leaving.

The hall attained a maximum silence as the King finally arose from his throne. Everyone’s eyes were focused on the great and mighty king. His aura depicted power. And with the history that was heard about him, Alonso knew he deserved the title and position he was given. He had won so many battles between werewolves and humans.

Also, aside from the packs that were passed down to him for generations, he had attained more packs into his command in just the space of a few years. The kingdom far and wide has blossomed, and even when there were times when people wanted his power for themselves, he had managed to be ruler still. People respected, feared, and loved him and his family.

“I summoned you all here today for a few reasons,” the King began, his tone filled with authority. “One of such reasons is to announce the abdication of the throne to my daughter. Although not formally a crowned queen yet, I have passed down every ounce of the authority vested in me by the moon goddess down to her.”

“In a few months, we will have a ritual ceremony where I will hand over the crown to her formally. It is an integral part of becoming the next queen to rule our beautiful kingdom. Over the years, we have made a b***d covenant to serve our people till our last breath, and I know she will not let you down.”

“The ritual cannot take place at this time until she claims for herself a mate. I wanted it to be Alpha Alonso since she is to be his second chance mate, and it was already decided but having heard that the man has found love himself, which is his first chance mate, I’m willing to let him make a choice. So what do you say, Alpha Alonso?”

Alpha Alonso got up and bowed to the king, a way to show his respect. He knew that apart from Callisto, he was not well known by the rest of the people. They could tell Alonso was new; not many people had seen his face before. Alonso was glad that the King recognized him, but now he knew that he knew the reason he found himself in a delicate position.

“My King, you have honored me and showered me greatly with an irrefutable amount of glory,” Alonso said, pausing to pick out his following line carefully. “It is with this same honor you have bestowed upon me that I plead to romance your ego with as I humbly reject your gracious offer.”

Alonso’s voice was powerful, and it could easily make an omega tremble if it turned out angry. Many people looked up at him, curious about his identity as a true alpha. Appealing to the king’s ego and using the position he found himself in as a way of honoring back the king was a very charming way to decline the King’s offer, or so he hoped.

“Very well then,” the King said suddenly. “I shall reconsider my choice. After a few more words from your queen, there will be a feast. I hope you enjoy your time here, and that will be all for now.”

When the King turned back to his seat, murmuring erupted amongst the crowd as everyone spoke about different things. Some were unhappy about their next female ruler, but Alonso was sure it was the least of his worries. Others loathed Alonso not just because he rejected the king’s daughter but also because his aura screams so much power, and he doesn’t talk much nor talk to anyone; some call him names for refusing such a great offer.

Alonso wanted to leave this place and get back to his mate, and he still wished she had tagged along with him, but it was not possible since she didn’t know about the wolf community, nor if such creatures exist, nor else she would think it’s a myth if I tell her about it too. He had a hard time leaving her alone, but he made sure to give her enough security to protect her before he arrived. As the king had said earlier, his wife, Queen Rebecca, arose immediately after her King settled down to address them.

……

“Nice to see you again, Alonso,” a sigh rolled out of his mouth when he heard a familiar voice say to him.

“Rayleigh,” Alonso responded, acknowledging her with a nod.

“Long time no see; how many years has it been?” Rayleigh said, holding his gaze with her charming eyes.

“Almost a decade since we met Rayleigh,” he answered, keeping his voice straight and professional. “I see you haven’t changed a bit. You look elegant and charming as usual.”

“Thank you, but a few things have changed. I learned a few new positions that I would love to teach you.”

She rolled her tongue over her lips with a flirty smile.

“I appreciate your offer, but no, thank you,” Alonso said, picking up a glass of wine and trying to sway his way out of her sight.

“How unfortunate, no one ever rejects my offer,” she said with a mean smirk.

“Look, Rayleigh, I respect you a lot, but my decision stays,” as before, his voice remained monotone as he spoke to her.

“You’ve found a mate, haven’t you?” Rayleigh giggled, gaining his attention. “She’s your first chance mate; that makes the king’s daughter your second chance mate, yet you rejected her because of your human mate. Why, if I may ask?

“Yes, but now I have to leave. And rejecting the king’s daughter has nothing to do with you, Rayleigh.” he bowed curtly.

“Well, she must be special for you to give up the opportunity of becoming a member of the royal bloodline family,” Callisto said out of nowhere.
