“I swear to the moon goddess; I’ll replace Draper Cooper and take him out!” Bianco said with an angry tone. He wished Alonzo had let him unleash his wolf on the man before they had gotten a chance to take off. He was driving Alonzo back home.

“I’m sure you will get your revenge,” Alonzo said quietly. “We live to fight another day.”

Bianco’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. He had a question he needed to ask his boss, but he did not know how Alonzo would react to it. “I don’t care; I’ll ask all the same.”

“Boss Alonzo, why the hell didn’t she send the money?”

“Hmm, I’m on it, okay?”

“Okay, boss.” Bianco knew he just had to take the answer like that, even though it was not what he expected to hear.

Alonzo had been thinking about the same damn thing. None of what happened was Draper’s fault. If Alyona had sent the money before Draper started shooting at him and Bianco, then it would have been that Draper had gotten greedy. Why didn’t Alyona send the money? The answer was staring him right in the face, but he chose not to believe she had betrayed him. He felt maybe she had not heard him, or there was something wrong with the transfer. Why then had she not called back to explain to him? He could not stomach the thought of feeling that she might have rerun into danger in Russia, so he told Jerald to check on her.

Deeper troubles were stirring up in the Marcovic mansion as news reached out to Mazza that La Corporation De Sina’s building was ablaze. Mazza immediately called Alonzo.

“Alonzo, the company is on fire; I’m just heading there now!” said Mazza.

Alonzo’s mouth opened to speak, but he couldn’t. Angrily, he struck his phone on the dashboard. First, his horse got poisoned, then the deal with Draper went south, and now his company was being brought down in flames. His troubles seemed to be climaxing.

“Bianco, take me to the company!” Alonzo said.

“Shit!” Bianco could see Alonzo’s eyes’ color had changed. This turn of events wasn’t good. If Alonzo transformed, there was no telling what could happen.

“Boss, your eyes!” Bianco said, scarred.

“I’m fine! Just drive!” Alonzo said, ending with a deep growl.

There was nothing fine about the growl Alonzo produced. His claws were already out, and his ears had become pointy.

“Uh, okay, just-“

Shit! Alonzo’s bones were snapping. Bianco didn’t know what to say or do. The car was too slow. Alonzo opened the door and slipped away right after his transformation was finished.

Bianco swore under his breath, “F**k! F**k! F**k!”

His fingers trembled as he reached for his phone to contact Mazza. He held the steering with one hand, and his other hand fumbled with the dialer on the phone screen. He tried to focus on the road and his phone screen simultaneously.

“Yeah, hello, boss, Don Alonzo just did a complete transformation, and I think he is heading your way or not.”

“Okay,” Mazza said. “Okay, Bianco, you don’t have to worry; Alonzo wouldn’t hurt anyone; I’m sure he can control his bloodlust now.”

“I hope he can!” Bianco said to himself.

No matter how much the car accelerated, it was impossible to catch up with Alonzo. In less than two minutes, Bianco had completely lost Alonzo’s scent. He prayed Alonzo was running towards the company and not going on a rampage.

Jerald had been looking for Agent Fox for weeks, and still, he hadn’t found him. If it were possible, he would have sworn that he had searched every nook and cranny of Russia. Jerald almost wanted to believe that the search for agent Fox was a lost cause, but he kept searching. Something kept telling him not to give up.

Jerald earlier had received some instructions to confirm if Alyona was safe. However, he could tell that there was something unlikely going on. Alonzo had told him not to make direct contact with Alyona.

However, since Jerald himself was busy searching for Agent Fox, he asked Vincenzo to do it. Vincenzo had confirmed that Alyona was safe with her family, and so Jerald just reported back to Alonzo.

Callisto had just received words that the men he had paid to commit arson had been successful. He was not by himself in the house; Antonio, Fox, and Laslow were with him.

“La Corporation De Sina, that monstrous building has finally been brought down in glorious flames,” Callisto said to no one in particular. “It pains me that arson has to be committed at night when everyone is away. It would have been much more horrible to see that building burn with a few humans inside it.”

“I take it the casino is next, huh?” Laslow asked, and Antonio gave him a scornful look. Agent Fox could care less. The only reason he was here, to begin with, was to protect Mariyanna.

“Oh, you’re right, my son, but maybe I’ll be merciful and burn it after the coronation of our new leader!” Callisto said. “Fox, it’s a shame you’re still on the run, so you won’t be able to come with us to the werewolf coronation of our new queen.”

“Yeah, but he won’t have to do much running soon after we finish off Alonzo!” Laslow said.

“Yeah, did you hear that?” Callisto said, standing. “That’s a man who believes in our course! Meanwhile, things just keep getting better and better. Alyona returned to Russia today. Antonio, be prepared to act.”

“Yes, father,” Antonio replied dryly.

Agent Fox wondered what they wanted to do with Alyona. At this point, it seemed like they weren’t going to kill her because if they had wanted to, they would have done it the moment she landed at the airport. Alyona walked straight into turbulent waters with no boat; he wondered if Alyona could swim. Mariyanna had told him what she had done, and, as predicted, Alyona had abandoned the ones protecting her because she thought Alonzo was a flirt. What a stupid reason, he thought, for her to leave.

“Sister! It’s so good to see you again, in the flesh,” Mariyanna said, beaming up as she entered the living room.

Mariyanna was returning from wherever she had gone, and her handbag was still strapped to her shoulder. She tried to hug Alyona, but Alyona ignored her receptive gesture. Yes, Alonzo slept with her sister, but that meant her anger was directed at them, not just Alonzo.

“You can’t keep ignoring me,” Mariyanna said.

“You are right; I need to tell you about something, so I’ll talk to you.”

“Ah, now you’re talking! So what’s up?”

“I believe Alonzo, by now, should be dead.”

Mariyanna couldn’t believe her ears.

“Alonzo is dead? How did you, Alyona, kill Alonzo?”

“I didn’t kill him, but I might have contributed to riling up another Mafia crew who took him out. You’ve heard of Draper Cooper. Alonzo had dealings with him, but I made sure he didn’t live up to his end of the deal.”

“You cunning witch,” Mariyanna said. She was trying not to show any emotions, but inwardly she was breaking apart. She made sure that Alyona would pay for her transgression. Nobody was permitted to take away the life of who she loved.

“So you think Draper killed him, or what?” Marianna added after some time, and Alyona nodded once.

“Well, they will eventually replace out that you are responsible!” Mariyanna said. “You need to tell me exactly how it happened. Your action will lead to war between the families.”

“I know, and that’s why I’m here; I. I need the sanctuary of my people, and this is an act of vengeance that I feel is long overdue. Will you fight beside me, Mari?”

“Fight beside you? I never wanted vengeance for our father, who never cared about me, but spoiled you rotten. Anyway, I can’t precisely abandon you; your fight is now my fight.”

“Thank you,” Alyona whispered.

It was appalling, though, to hear Mariyanna talk about her father not caring for her. It was not valid. Ivan cared for his daughters equally. Mariyanna was just jealous that their father would leave his empire to Alyona, which was because Alyona was better for that position.

Alyona felt like she had just taken her first fresh breath since fleeing Italy. She was ready to fight as long as her people would fight with her. The Marcovics didn’t scare her. She felt a little sick, though. She felt like throwing up. She needed to take a test to know what was wrong.

“What’s wrong with you?” Mariyanna said, noticing the way Alyona was looking. She took a seat beside her.

“I feel a bit sick.”

“Oh, I’m sure it wouldn’t last; it’s probably the feeling of betrayal.”

Betrayal? Alyona wondered who Mariyanna was referring to at the moment. She felt betrayed, not the other way around. Alonzo betrayed her, and that justifies her actions. She was willing to forgive him for killing her father, but he did the unimaginable when he slept with her sister. She couldn’t ignore that.

They said it was always darkest before dawn, but what if there was no dawn for Alyona? What if all that remained for her was gross darkness till eternity. Everyone she loved was gone. She couldn’t exactly say to herself that she loved Mariyanna. She loved Mariyanna, but Mariyanna was unstable, and if it was worth mentioning, then Mariyanna was someone who insisted on rejecting her love, and she couldn’t waste time on someone like her, sister or not.
