The Alpha Mafia King -
Chapter 60
Dear old fashioned city of Greece. The city of ancient ruins and home to the Olympian gods worshipers. The town, whose mythology had spanned for many centuries, the city which till date had not lost the taste in giving those who hear about its myths and legends a thrill for an adventure. Alonzo, Mazza, and Bianco had just arrived in the city, and it was almost dark.
Piccolo welcomed his bosses and Bianco with open arms as it was indeed an honor to have them leave their homes, friends, and businesses to pay their respect to his late mother.
“I don’t know about you, but I think Iolaus would have made a great Mafiosi in his days,” Mazza said during the drive to Piccolo’s home. Iolaus was Hercules’s best friend with whom he went on many adventures helping people and slaying mythical monsters
“Oh yeah? And what position would he have held?” Piccolo asked.
“Hmm, he would’ve fit in very well as a capo, much like Bianco!” Mazza said.
“Yeah, right, and Hercules would have been what? A Don? Much like me, right?” Alonzo asked, tearing his gaze from looking out the window. Everyone roared in laughter at the comparison, even Piccolo.
“No, Alonzo, if I were to liken you to any of the ancient Greek people, it would be Adonis,” Piccolo aired his view.
“Adonis?” Mazza and Alonzo said together.
“Of course,” Piccolo replied.
“Now, what ties would I have with that whore of a man or god?” Alonzo asked, genuinely wanting to know.
“You look just like him,” Piccolo said. “Just look at you; it’s no wonder the ladies are always all over you.”
“Yeah, except I don’t like women,” Alonzo said, quite defensively. “I’m much rather like Hercules: strong, smart, and helpful.”
Piccolo laughed! “Okay, if you say so.”
“Bianco, are you alright?” Alonzo asked, noticing how he seemed uninterested in their moments. “You don’t love Greece or what?”
Bianco sighed and said. “It’s not that. It’s just that I can’t stay calm; how are you so calm with everything going on? First, the dead horse before the race, the deal with Cooper which went sideways, and of course the arson committed on the company.”
“Bianco, I thought we agreed that business could come after Pico’s mom’s burial? Would it kill you to wait a while?” Alonzo asked.
“I’m sorry, boss,” Bianco said. “I just want to catch whoever is responsible for all this and rip them to shreds!”
“And as your alpha, I’m asking you to wait,” Alonzo said with an air of finality.
“Alonzo, your company was burned?” Piccolo asked, sounding surprised.
“Yes, La Corporation De Sina was razed to the ground yesterday,” Alonzo said, sighing.
“You should have told me,” Piccolo said.
“I just wanted to be here for you, Pico,” Alonzo said, squeezing Piccolo’s knee. “I promise we will investigate everything after.”
That night, Piccolo introduced everyone to his adoptive father. They all had strong wine and talked about a lot of things. Alonzo could tell that Piccolo was opportune to have such a man in his life.
Although Piccolo’s adoptive father was a human, he knew all about his mobster life and werewolf life. After Callisto murdered Piccolo’s father, it was almost inevitable that Piccolo would never have a father figure again, but it wasn’t true.
Alonzo appreciated that Piccolo’s father, being human, could live amicably with his family of werewolves. It was something he had been wondering if Alyona could live with knowing. She had already embraced his mobster life, but he didn’t know how she would take it if she ever found out about him being a werewolf.
Alonzo appreciated that Piccolo’s father, being human, could live amicably with his family of werewolves. It was something he had been wondering if Alyona could live with knowing. She had already embraced his mobster life, but he didn’t know how she would take it if she ever found out about him being a werewolf.
Recent events made Alonzo stop having high hopes that their relationship would last for her to replace out. He wrestled with the intense feeling that Alyona had betrayed him.
Alonzo didn’t want to believe she could do that to him after everything his family had done for her. He convinced himself otherwise. Alonzo tried telling himself that there was another reason for her action with the Draper Cooper’s deal. He felt he should confront her first before assuming the worst.
Morning came by swiftly, and it was rather gloomy. All the merriment of the previous night had vanished in the shadow of Piccolo’s mom’s burial. Everyone was putting on black dresses. Piccolo, for the longest time, held back tears until he finally broke down when he was giving his eulogy.
Alonzo’s eyes were watery at that moment, so he put on his dark shades to conceal his tears. Although it was not an embarrassment for the Don to be seen shedding tears, Alonzo didn’t like it. After all, the Don had a compassionate spirit for family and friends.
“Thank you for coming,” Piccolo said to a family just about to leave. The burial was over.
“Hey bro, how are you holding up?” Alonzo said when it was just the both of them.
“I’ve been better,” Piccolo admitted. “Umm, about Cooper’s deal, can we talk about it? And the fire? I need to get my mind off things.”
“Okay, so you know how we’ve all heard things about Draper not keeping to his end of bargains, so I didn’t go with the money for the guns.”
“So you made Alyona hold on to the money?”
“Yes, but at the point when she was supposed to send the money, she bailed on me.”
“And she hasn’t called to explain why?”
“No, and I haven’t called her either. Piccolo, my alpha instinct, is asking me not to trust her. I feel she wanted something wrong to happen to me.”
“So, what do you want to do now?”
“Well, until I can confirm what happened, I’ll like no one to contact her for some time.”
“But Alonzo, why did you involve her?”
“Are you seriously asking me that?”
“Yes, she’s not an inducted member.”
“But she’s a mafioso nonetheless. I wanted her to be more involved in our family business. Anyways, it was a momentary lapse in judgment.”
“You did say she went to Russia on the day of the deal, right?”
“Yes.”
“Isn’t Mariyanna supposed to be in Russia now? You think she might know something?” Piccolo said, and Alonzo shrugged. “Well, let’s call her and see what she might know or don’t know,” Piccolo added.
“Fine, but you would call her,” Alonzo said.
Shortly after, Mariyanna was on the line with Piccolo. She demanded to know if Alonzo was alive, which surprised them.
“He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and he is in the intensive care unit,” Piccolo said.
“Do you think he’ll make it?”
“His life hanging on a thread; that’s what the doctor said. Mariyanna, how did you know to ask if Alonzo is alive?”
“How else? It was Alyona that informed me, of course.”
“I don’t understand. The deal was supposed to go smoothly, but I learned Alyona didn’t send the money. Is she responsible for what happened to Alonzo?”
“Oh, my poor Alonzo,” Mariyanna said, breaking down in tears. “My sister’s plan was for the deal to go south, knowing that Draper wouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.”
Alonzo’s muscles tensed; he wanted to snatch the phone from Piccolo, but Piccolo restrained him with his arm.
“Why would Alyona do that?”
“Why else? She wants to avenge our father’s death.”
Piccolo ended the call before Alonzo would blow his cover.
“Bro, I’m so sorry,” Piccolo said softly.
Alonzo’s roar could be heard by Mazza and Bianco, who were not very far away. They sped on foot to come and meet him. Piccolo explained what happened to them.
“No, that can’t be right!” Mazza said strongly. “She would never do us this dirty.”
Alonzo was glaring at his grandfather like he had uttered the most profane sentence in all of man’s history.
“You still have the guts to defend her,” Alonzo snapped. “You led her into my life, and from the beginning, I never trusted her, but you pushed me into making the wrong decisions.”
“Alonzo, that’s enough,” Piccolo said. “I’m sure we will figure something out.”
“No, from here on out, I’ll deal with her myself!” Alonzo said. “Nobody should inform her that I’m alive. Piccolo, if Mariyanna calls back, I want you to say that I didn’t survive.”
Mazza stood still as he watched his grandson disappear into the backseat of a car and watched the car speed off.
“Don Palumbo,” Piccolo called softly.
“What?”
“If you still have doubts about Alyona’s betrayal, then there’s something else I need to let you know. I haven’t told Alonzo this yet, not that it could break his heart more than she already has. The necropsy result carried out on the dead horse is out and guess what the cause of death was? It was poison, botulinum poisoning. Alonzo told me that botulinum poisoning was what Vincenzo used to take out Don Ivan.”
“Piccolo, something else is at work here. Alyona explicitly told me that she had forgiven Alonzo for killing her father. A true Mafiosi won’t go back on their words.”
“Tsk, Don Palumbo, as the family consigliere, it’s my sacred duty to offer guidance. How well do we know Alyona? And even if you’re right that her motive might not be purely an act of vengeance, it doesn’t change the fact that she betrayed Alonzo, and If not for the fact that we are werewolves, your grandson would’ve been dead.”
