Mariyanna had continued to hide for several days, waiting for just the right time to resurface. Her only communication during this time was to a man who fed her intel as he went about discreetly performing most of her biddings in her absence.

Quite a lot had happened in her absence Mariyanna noted as she took mouth-scalding sips of pure black coffee.

A few days ago, she had heard that Callisto had died and that had been a relief since he was largely responsible for her disappearance.

Nevertheless, Mariyanna remained hidden because of the fear of her sister’s wrath— there was no escaping that one. Once Alyona’s wrath had been incurred, the punishment was ninety-nine percent unavoidable. Mariyanna had hoped that Alyona would die by Callisto’s hand, but as always, Alyona continued to prove that she remained undying no matter what her brush with death may look like.

A week has passed since Callisto’s death. Mariyanna knew about the squabbling between Alyona and Alonzo. She had heard that her sister had lost her pregnancy, making her even more atrocious and dangerous. Mariyanna waited to see if Alyona would forgive Alonzo and leave Russia but she stayed around, meaning she was still looking for her.

For the last three days of the past week, Mariyanna had been on the receiving end of some very upsetting news that had made her want to come out of her hiding place. She already knew that it was a ploy invented by her sister to flush her out from her hiding but she just couldn’t resist it any longer.

So apparently, someone had been targeting employees from Arilogistics headquarters in Russia, sending masked men to abduct them daily. The workers soon stopped coming to work for fear of being abducted. After the second abduction took place a message was left revealing to whom it may concern what the kidnappers had wanted from the kidnapping and of course it was the CEO, Mariyanna.

Mariyanna decided therefore to indulge her sister before this bit of hocus-pocus escalated into a true nightmare. Alyona had stated that if the kidnapping doesn’t flush Mariyanna out then she would be left with no other choice but to start executing the abducted workers one at a time. A total of seven workers had been kidnapped in the last three days.

Mariyanna sipped from her coffee mug again but this time she had already delayed for too long and it had gone slightly cold and so she drank it all before it became any less enjoyable.

Mariyanna heard the secret knock on the door and she immediately set the empty cup down. Even though the knocking pattern sounded familiar she took out a gun from the drawer and went to the door. She peeked through the peephole ensuring that her visitor was who she was expecting and not just some intruder who’d learned their secret knocking pattern.

Costello had been Mariyanna’s informant over the last couple of days. He had long been chosen as agent Fox’s replacement should Fox die unprecedentedly. Mariyanna was glad she had a replacement since, in their line of job, personal bodyguards didn’t last long.

Costello set aside the bag of dinner he had brought on a small desk next to the lavish king-sized bed.

“Sorry I’m a bit late,” Agent Costello said, eyeing Mariyanna’s hand. “Still carrying that around, are you?”

“You said it may come in handy,” Mariyanna said, shrugging.

“I was kidding,” Costello said smiling. “How on earth would anyone replace you down here?”

“You can’t be so sure,” Mariyanna argued.

“Oh, but I am,” he argued back.

“Whatever, still I’m not letting go of the gun,” Mariyanna finalized.

Costello sighed. “Is it just me or is this place lacking oxygen?”

“I am hiding in an underground bunker, what did you expect? An endless supply of air?”

Mariyanna was literally hiding right under Alyona’s nose. All Alyona had to do was go into their father’s study, press the button hidden within the bookshelf and the secret door to the underground bunker where Mariyanna was hiding will be revealed— viola, mystery solved!

Costello had helped move her to the bunker right after the news had come that Alyona had been kidnapped.

“I brought you something to eat,” Costello said, ignoring Mariyanna’s previous questions.

“Do I look hungry?” Mariyanna notified in a nasty tone, settling down on top of her bed and keeping the gun close by.

“Sorry Don,” Costello apologized right away. “I have news for my Don,” he added even more timidly.

“Well? Say it!” Mariyanna snapped. Her brief moment of niceness was over.

“Your sister has secured her position as the new Don in your absence. It was voted upon.”

Mariyanna was fazed and she shook her head slowly. “And?”

“Well, although she’s sealed her position she doesn’t look ready to skip town, not until she replaces you.” Costello exhaled noisily.

“At last she’s succeeded in winning the vast majority of the family.”

“Evidently ma’am. There is one more bit of information that bears mentioning.”

“Let me guess, she’s already executed one of the abducted?”

“No,” Costello said firmly. “Far from it.”

Mariyanna let out a relieved breath. “So what is it?”

“Your sister seems to have settled with Alonzo.”

“Ugh, could she be any less predictable?” Mariyanna said, running her hand through her hair.

“I’m afraid so,” Costello continued. “You see, she settled with Alonzo but rather than taking off to Italy as you predicted, Alonzo will be the one coming over tomorrow.”

“God, no! I don’t stand a chance with both of them united again.”

“Yes indeed, but what if we act tonight?”

“Leave!” Mariyanna roared.

“What?”

Mariyanna picked up the gun and yelled, “I said leave me alone!”

Costello immediately turned to the door and scurried out of the bunker. Mariyanna held the gun to her head, her index finger on the trigger, then she g*****d out in frustration.

“What do I do?” she wondered.

Meanwhile, Costello and Alyona crossed paths in the living room and she immediately asked him to halt. A three-man squad bodyguard was accompanying her.

“Where are you coming from?” Alyona asked.

Costello paused nervously and said, “I was looking for you, my Don.”

“Why?” Alyona’s tone was sharp and unfriendly.

“I wanted to congratulate you on your rise, congratulations,” Costello said, trying to force a charming smile.

Alyona’s eyes narrowed. “Costello, it wouldn’t end well if I catch you snooping around again. Mind your quarters.”

“Yes Don,” Costello said, bowing his head slightly. “May your reign as Don last forever.”

“Shesh! What’s his deal?” Alyona wondered, observing him before he disappeared from her sight.

Alyona was just returning from where the abducted employees were kept. She had gone to ensure that they were properly taken care of and that no harm had been done to them. If all went according as planned then Mariyanna should be turning herself in within the next twenty-four hours. She was sure Mariyanna wouldn’t take her threat as bluffing because they had a history that proved Alyona capable of doing what she said she would do.

Alyona went into her bedroom and the guards remained outside to ensure her safety.

Alyona took out her phone from her purse. She saw a text message from Alonzo saying that he would be in Russia very early the following day and her lips formed a thin smile.

Alyona wouldn’t have given Alonzo a second chance, ever, if not that Lady Tanya begged for him. She spent days putting in good words for him until her heart couldn’t take it anymore and she had to pardon Alonzo.

Lady Tanya had also told her a very compelling story of how she was once married to a werewolf herself. The long and short of it all was when her pack fell apart the De Sina pack took her in and since then she claimed never to have regretted a day living with the Marcovics.

Lady Tanya spoke to her like a woman indeed. She shared how she too had lost a pregnancy and how it wasn’t the end of childbearing when one lost a pregnancy, all that and more were things she had said to make Alyona reconsider her decision to break up with Alonzo.

Scratch all that, she missed him, if she was being honest, the real reason she accepted to listen to Lady Tanya’s pleas was that she missed Alonzo and for many nights she couldn’t explain why she had been dreaming about him but Lady Tanya explained it to her that she dreamt If him because they were destined to be mates.

Ever since then, Alyona slowly started learning a great deal about the werewolf world from Lady Tanya rather than relying on materials from the media or the internet. Lady Tanya had told her that if she agreed to be Alonzo’s mate and he marked her then she would be his Luna queen. Alyona wanted to be marked and she wanted the gift of being a werewolf—something she had never dreamed about before.
