The Alpha's Silent Rejection -
7: Maddie
chapter 7
Lilith Point of View
With my new resolve, I turned around and headed out of the gym to meet Miss Wesley, the councilsecretary. However, as much as I wanted to go and see this Miss Wesley, I had no idea where to replaceher, and I didn't want to walk to the other side of the building to the administration office to askabout her whereabouts either.
I could obviously turn around and go back inside to ask this question to Carson, but I wouldn't darebecause I wanted to keep my distance from him. I shook my head to get his name out of my mindand sighed as I stood in the middle of a hallway with no idea about where to go.
Since I had no other choice, I took out the college map from my bag’s side pocket and gave it athorough look. As my classes were about to start in some ten minutes, I decided to head to my classand meet Wesley later in the break. With my mindset, I searched for my schedule in my bag andtook it out to check which subject I have in my first class. I then took a look at the map andsearched for the physics class and followed the map.
I was walking with my head bent low as I moved according to the map, when suddenly I collidedwith someone and heard a girly shriek. My eyes widened, and I looked down to see a girl picking upher glasses from the floor. She had long jet-black hair that were tied in a sleek ponytail and waswearing dark-washed denim paired with an oversized greyish white hoodie.
“I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to bump in you. Are you alright?” I asked her with concern while shestayed quiet and picked up her glasses and stood straight.
I noticed she had soft honey-brown eyes with a small button nose and pink lips that were more onthe thinner side. She stood 5'3 tall at her full height with an olive skin tone and innocencesurrounded her like a bubble.
“It's ok, I wasn't paying attention either.” She replied in a small voice.
“No harm done. By the way, I'm Lilith, I joined today.” I introduced myself while extending my handfor a shake.
"Hi, I'm Maddie, short for Madelyn.” She spoke in her small voice.
Maddie had something about her that made me feel calmer about this whole college. She appearedinnocent and was really soft spoken. I really wished we could be friends because I would love tohave her as my friend.
"What major are you pursuing, Maddie?” I queried while hoping she has the same major as mine“Biomedical Engineering with physics as my second major.” She uttered shyly.
I almost squealed in delight when her major matched mine and muttered. “That's great. I am alsopursuing the same. Umm, would you like to be my friend?”
Maddie's head snapped up when I asked her about us being friends, and I thought she doesn’t wantto be my friend. "Of course, I would love to be your friend. I don't have any friends, anyway.” Shetrailed off with sadness coating her words.
“It's ok, you have me, now. Let's go to class or else we will be late for our first class.” I reminded her,and she nodded before walking ahead of me.
Surprisingly, Maddie knew all the turns and hallways of the college, which made me question hercollege year. “You are starting from today, right?” I asked while climbing the stairs with her.
"Yea, but my sister was also in this college and I used to visit her often. So, I know all the classes.”She spoke while slightly turning to me and I nodded.
That makes sense, I thought. “Did you meet the anyone from the council, by the way? I couldn't replaceMiss Wesley.” I told her while trying to not remember the arrogant yet hot President.
“No, I was on my way to meet the President when I bumped into you, and then it was time for class. We can go and meet the President in our break.” She suggested while looking at me with a softsmile on her face while my heart halted for a second before resuming its pace.
“Ugh, we should meet the Secretary, Briana Wesley. The President must be busy also, theadministrator officer told me to meet the Secretary in the morning.” I lied to Maddie smoothly.
She nodded without any protest and I instantly felt guilty for lying to her, but I couldn't tell her thetruth either. We reached outside of our classroom that was located on the first floor and I feltanxiety creep inside me.
I haven't had any social interaction with my peers for a year as I was homeschooled and it causedanxiety to settle in the pit of my stomach. My heartbeat ringed in my ear in a weird, irregular rhythmand I wanted my heart to stop for a minute, but I knew it was impossible.
My stomach felt heavy and a tingling sensation arose in my chest as I stared at the door. My palmsturned sweaty while my breath came in short pants, I was almost swimming in the pool of anxietywhen Maddie's voice cleared the haze. “Are you alright, Lilith?"
"Umm, yea. I'm alright. Let's go inside.” I waved her off while wiping my palms on my dress andtaking a deep breath.
Maddie nodded and pushed open the door for us before entering inside. As we stepped into theclass, everyone went silent and I looked down at Maddie in confusion. However, I wasn't greeted byher small smile, instead she had a mask of indifference on her face.
I was about to ask her what happened when I heard someone yell, “A human?”
My eyes lifted up and glided over the class before I cocked an eyebrow and yelled back, “Yup, youanimal.”
There was pin-drop silence at my words and I turned to my side to see that Maddie was staring atme with admiration. “Let's go,” I whispered to her and walked to the two empty desks placed in acorner side by side.
Maddie followed me without a word and we both settled in our seats before I asked, “How comeeveryone knows everyone here?”
“They all used to study in the same high school before. Don’t ever mess with them, Lilith. Thesepeople aren't nice.” She whispered close to my ear.
Her words didn't sound threatening to me because if there was something that I would absolutelynot tolerate, it is bullying. This was an advantage of homeschooling; I wasn't scared of anyone orbullying because James made sure I'm hard-headed.
I nodded my head at Maddie and decided to talk to her about something else. “Do you use powerglasses?”
An innocent, shy smile climbed on her face at the question and she whispered softly, “No, I wearthem because I like the look.”
I smiled at her words and told her, “You are lucky then. You have a round face and almost every pairof glasses will compliment you.”
She blushed at my words, and somehow, I already knew it was her first compliment. Maddie is reallyinnocent in this crowd of overconfident people, not just that, she is much more than just innocent, she’s different from these people even though she knew them for years
I liked her a lot as a friend and I am hoping we would remain friends for a lifetime.
