The Alpha’s Unwanted Mate Chapter 121 Book 2 Chapter 53
“My dad?”
“He’s the cause of this, the letter…it said…it said…”
“What did it say?”
Celeste bit her lips, eyes glancing away from his. “I don’t know…he took it…”
“Don’t lie to me, Celeste. You know something, talk.”
“Well…the letter…I thought it was an apology at first, it was, but at the back of the paper was something more. Celia wrote that she knew that a war was coming and she also stated that she knew why. She said it was something she overheard, but your father is a royal too…well technically he’s the brother of the current king and there was more.”
“What did it say?”
“I didn’t get to read it…he took it. He said it was only stressing me out, he said an apology from Celia was not what I needed now.”
“My father took it?”
Celeste nodded.
“The elder was saying something about him too, but it doesn’t make any sense. How could he be a royal? Father had this pack since I was a baby…if he was a royal wouldn’t he tell me?”
Celeste shrugged, sitting up. “I don’t know, but what if Celia’s right? What if what my father said about him was true too? I don’t want to believe, he’s so nice and gentle to me, I don’t want it to be true, but what if it is?”
“It isn’t, it couldn’t be. Dad stepped down from his post months ago, if it was something to do with him, why did they not declare a war when he was in power? There’s nothing dad could do to upset them now…he still has power, but stepping down from his title doesn’t allow him to use it.”
“I understand that, but what if…”
“Stop thinking about the ‘what if’s’ think about the facts, dad isn’t evil, if anything, he’s too good and his kindness couldn’t have been what started a war.”
“That’s true…” Celeste answered, giving up on convincing him. She knew his father was kind, she had seen his smiles, heard his chuckles, but last night he was acting different. She had been in Zillon’s room, sure she had been crying while she was reading the letter, but did that give him the right to take it?
He asked who it was from first and after hearing Celia’s name, he quickly grabbed it.
‘I don’t think you should be reading this,’ he chuckled nervously, the shake in his voice audibly, the worry in his eyes clear. ‘Especially in your state. Your fingers are shaking, you’re crying…I’ll give it back to you sometime in the long run.’
That’s what he had said, his eyes skimming over the paper before he walked out of the room with it. She could hear his steps down the hall and she also heard when he crushed the paper in his hand, the sound might not have been blaring, but she heard it…she was sure she did.
If he was going to give it back, why crush it?
And why did he take it from her in the first place?
Whether or not she was shaking like a leaf and shedding tears as though it was rain, it was her letter, it was given to her, it was her choice if she wanted to read it or not…he shouldn’t have taken it, especially since it left Celeste clueless now.
Celia couldn’t have been lying, in the letter, she was right about the enemy being the royals, then everything else she said must’ve been right as well. She wasn’t sure what Zillon’s father did, she wasn’t even sure if it was anything bad, but if all he needed to do was redeem himself, them he’d better do it now before everyone dies.
The life of the pack was in his palm, hers and Zillon and even his wife, if he did something…even if it wasn’t intentional, even if it wasn’t bad, Celeste prayed to the goddess that he’d at least apologize.
Looking back over at Zillon, she sighed, eyes assessing the dirt that covered his naked skin… the dried b***d on his hands and the already healing bruise on his shoulder. “What happened last night though? You came in breathing so hard.”
“Weren’t you asleep?”
“No…it’s kinda hard to. I thought you’d be back earlier and when you didn’t come in, I was so worried. I thought they got you, I know how strong the royals are.”
“I told you I’d come back, Celeste…I told you not to worry. Do you feel better now? What about the heat, is it gone?”
Celeste nodded, dropping into his arms as soon as he opened them. “I don’t want you to go back outside, ever. Celia said we should back down, she wrote tha—”
“And then when I back down and refuse to fight they’ll massacre everybody… including you? No way, I’m fighting back, training starts today and I want you to start packing from now. In three days, you’re moving to the safe house along with other women and the pups will be there too.”
Celeste shook her head. “No…I want to train too.”
“You’re not going out there, Celeste. You’re pregnant and you’re an omega too.”
“But if anything happens to you…”
Zillon ruffled her blond hair and held her tighter against his chest. “Nothing will happen.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.” He leaned away from her, searching for her beautiful blue eyes. “But if something does happen, promise me that you’ll take care of yourself…that you’ll be okay.”
Celeste tilted her head, eyes glossing over with tears. “I can’t…”
“Celeste you have to…”
“If I do, then I’m insinuating that something might happen and I don’t want that.”
“Celeste…”
Celeste shook her head, her tears finally falling. “Why is this happening? Why a war instead of a negotiation? I don’t like this, too many will die and all for nothing.”
“Stop crying, kitten. This happens often…wars between packs isn’t unheard of and they always happen for a reason.”
“Bu—”
Zillon leaned in, catching her trembling lips between his before she could say anything more. He wish he could k**s away her sadness and all her worry, he wish he could k**s away all the doubts that weighed down on her heart and clouded her mind.
If her worry could have her going into heat despite being pregnant, then it could do anything else. She probably suffered a lot without him here, she probably missed him greatly…
His poor kitten…
Kissing her deeper, he pushed her back against the bed until she laid flat against the mattress. He’ll be gone again for the whole day, he couldn’t leave her high and dry, if he did.. the same thing would reoccur.
