The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1492 A Sleepless Night

"What happened? Cassie?" Nick couldn't help but ask her. He reminded himself to be patient with her. However, as a handsome young man in his twenties, it was hard for him to hold back, especially when the woman he loved was lying naked beside him. In his attempt to try and ease her mind, Nick held her in his arms and touched her all over, but Cassie pushed him away once more.

"Oh, Cassie, my darling! Please, hug me and relax in my arms. I've honestly missed you so much!" he murmured while grabbing her hand passionately, leading it all the way down there. "Can you feel it? It's missing you too!"

At that moment, Cassie's face turned blood-red. Suddenly her hand was sweaty, and she felt that it was so hot that she wasn't even able to breathe anymore.

'Where did this man learn to say such a thing? It's so embarrassing! Stop it!' she shouted in her head.

The next second, her heart sunk. She had a feeling that Nick had changed a lot over the past few days, which had her worried. He was no longer the young, innocent man she knew before, especially in bed. She wondered where he gained all of his experience from.

The more Cassie thought about the situation, the more upset she was. Once she grew suspicious, she couldn't help but let her mind wander. In fact, soon the ideas in her head would occupy her entire heart, and thus, Cassie was unable to even be close to Nick.

"I'd better go home now," she said firmly without thinking about her decision twice. Her face was as cold as an iceberg, and her body, stiff.

"No, wait! Not now!" Nick objected. He hurriedly took her hand and pressed it against his heart.

Cassie was shocked by the aggression in his voice. It made her want to get away from him as soon as possible.

"No, Nick. I'm serious!"

her voice grew colder.

At that moment, Nick was very confused. Since Cassie agreed to come to his place after dinner, he thought that she wanted to have sex with him. However, now he was placed in the middle, unable to advance or retreat. He could tell that she meant what she'd said, but had no clue as to why.

In the beginning of the evening, everything seemed quite fine. As the saying went, "A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets." Nick really didn't understand Cassie. He wondered whether all women changed their minds, just like they were turning a page in a book.

Thinking about her words and reaction, he felt forced to let her go. Nick was not the kind of man who would force Cassie to do what she didn't want to. He then stepped away from her.

The moment she could, Cassie got up immediately. She stood there, naked and looking for her clothes. Little did she know that she had underestimated her attractiveness and overestimated Nick's willpower. Staring at her, Nick felt the thing between his thigh's roots exploding, and couldn't take it anymore.

"Cassie, please..."

he shouted, getting worked up by what seemed like a dramatic act.

However, Cassie didn't sense, nor care about his manly misery. She cast him a quick glance and continued to put on her underwear. Suddenly, Nick raised his long arms, grabbed her, threw her on the bed, got on the top of her and kissed her violently on the cheeks.

But, when he tasted her salty tears, he stopped immediately.

'Why? Why is she crying? Did I scare her? Oh, no!' he wondered.

The last thing he wanted to see was her tears.

Nick quickly got off her and stood up. "I'm so sorry! Please, forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt you, Cassie. It's just so hard to explain. Please know that I would never force you to do anything. If you don't feel like having sex with me, I'll leave you alone!" he apologized sincerely, regretting his passion getting the better of him.

He licked his lips and grabbed a robe to put on. It was hard for him to explain himself to her. Sometimes, sex was more important to men than women thought it was, and honestly, it was natural. It killed him to think that Cassie didn't want to make out with him.

He just couldn't bring himself to tell her the truth. If he did, she would think that sex was more important than she was to him. Even if it was the truth, she would run away from him if she knew. However, he was still a man.

"I'm leaving now," Cassie said and wiped off the tears from her face. She buttoned her top as she walked passed Nick and headed to the door.

"Wait!" Nick shouted and grabbed her by the arm once more. "Let me drive you home. Wait a moment for me to get dressed."

"Thank you, but I can hail a taxi. You'd better go to bed now, Nick." Cassie refused his gesture without any hesitation and turned her head away. "No, it's late. I can't let you go home alone. It's not safe,"

Nick insisted and put on his clothes in a hurry, afraid that Cassie wouldn't wait for him.

Cassie nodded her head in agreement, but regardless of his kindness, she still avoided looking into his eyes. Instead, she just stood still and waited.

Then they left the house together, neither of them uttering a word.

After they got into the car and drove away from the parking lot, Nick looked at Cassie cautiously and said, "I'm sorry for what happened tonight, Cassie. Please don't be mad at me."

"Stop, Nick. I didn't blame you for that. Just focus on the road!" Cassie replied, still avoiding eye contact with him as she looked in front of her.

Nick heaved a sigh and looked straight ahead. Both of them kept silent for the rest of the journey.

"Okay, we've arrived. I'm going now. Please take care on your way back," Cassie murmured as she unbuckled her seat belt, ready to get out of the car when they arrived.

"Cassie, wait!" Nick cried out in desperation when she wanted to leave. "If you were offended by me, please forgive me, okay? You know how much I love you!"

"No, please stop apologizing. You didn't do anything wrong. It's me," Cassie said plainly. Before Nick could utter another word, she opened the door, closed it behind her and walked towards her building withou glancing back at him.

Confused and annoyed, Nick watched her walk away. He sat still in the dark, wondering where things went wrong. He thought about what she'd meant with her words. Was it because he wanted to have sex with her, or because she was still angry about what he'd done during the past few days?

He then denied the latter thought, for he knew that Cassie would never have come to his place if she was still mad at him.

He refrained from driving away immediately and took out a cigarette. Instead of lighting it, however, he caught it at the tips of his fingers, lost in thought.

Everything went perfectly fine, until he led her hand down to his pants. He could even tell that Cassie was eager to make love to him in the moment, but why did things end up like this?

What made Cassie change her mind about him? What exactly ruined the night?

Up in her room, Cassie peeked from the curtain and spotted Nick's car, which was still there.

She heaved a heavy sigh, thinking about how she felt. However, her feelings were complicated.

It was getting late, and she began to worry about Nick. He really needed to sleep, because he had to get up early the next morning for work.

Cassie stared at the car and hoped that it would drive away within the next few seconds. Staring at it, she became more and more anxious.

She gripped her phone tightly and finally got up the nerve to call him. She wanted to figure out why he was so skilled at stripping her clothes off and whether he had practiced it many times with other women before. If he was in a new relationship, then why did he return to her again, and if he wasn't, why would he have sex with other women?

Her only logical thought was that Nick might have had sex with other women, which was driving her crazy. She admitted to herself that she was indeed jealous, but didn't know how to deal with it. She didn't allow herself to confront him right in his face, and also couldn't stand replaceing out his answer. She loved him and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

Cassie now realized that she was the one at fault. She felt like a coward, especially when it came to dealing with her relationship with Nick. It was her hesitation that forced her to face this situation. She should've been braver.

However, she dared not to face Nick's betrayal. If he admitted cheating on her, what should she have done? Break up with him? No, absolutely not! Pretending that nothing had happened? No, she couldn't. The young lady was too young to think it through now, hence why she spent a sleepless night alone.

In the car, Nick was also unable to fall asleep. It didn't matter if he drove back home later that night, he'd still be awake regardless.
