The Apple of My Eye -
Chapter 1666 Looked Before He Leaped
"Wh... what are you talking about? Murder? What do you mean?!" Holley didn't expect Ferry would ask this. She was very nervous, but she tried her best to remain calm and not give herself away. Holley knew that if Ferry ever found out that she had asked Tom to kill Ferry, she would be screwed.
Ferry shook his head when he saw the anxiety and horror on Holley's face. 'She doesn't have the guts to do that, ' he thought to himself.
"I'll give you ten days. If I don't see you doing anything, Jordan's going to be the one to suffer!" Ferry hung up on Holley.
Hearing the busy tone on the other end of the phone, Holley was riled up. Ferry had ruined her day.
This was an ultimatum from Ferry. Even if Holley couldn't take down the Shining Company, she had to steal some confidential files for Ferry. Otherwise, she couldn't even begin to imagine what would happen to her.
Holley still stood immobile on the balcony, lost in thought.
Jordan was confused. Instead of again walking to the balcony, he called Holley's name this time.
"Ah, what?"
Holley finally answered Jordan. He had already lost track of how many times he had called her. "Holley, why are you standing there like that? What did your uncle say?" Jordan asked in confusion. "Nothing, it's just about his family." Holley walked to Jordan as she answered him.
Holley kissed Jordan on the lips so he wouldn't ask more questions.
And it worked. Jordan was turned on and he totally forgot about the call.
Jordan fell asleep after they had intercourse. Holley, however, was too worried to fall asleep, so she decided to get up and take a shower. She then left the house.
She wanted to go outside to take in some fresh air and clear her mind. It was better than lying in bed and doing nothing.
Holley decided to call Leila.
However, the phone just rang and rang. Leila didn't pick up Holley's call, which just put Leila in a worse mood.
To make things worse, just a few minutes after she left, Jordan woke up and called her, asking her where she had gone. He was starting to get suspicious about Holley.
"I went out to buy some snacks. I'll be back home soon!" Holley explained to Jordan. She turned around and headed to the restaurant near her home.
In the hospital
"Leila, who's that? Why didn't you pick up the call?" Melissa had just woken up, and she noticed the anxiety on Leila's face, so she asked.
"Aunt Melissa, you're up!" Leila ignored Melissa's question and changed the subject.
"Uh-huh, I am fine. Where's Charles? Did you tell Charles?" In order to convince Charles that she was sick, Melissa had taken two sleeping pills, which made her fall asleep.
Leila nodded her head and smiled at Melissa. "Aunt Melissa, don't worry. I told Charles everything. I can tell from his face that he believes what I said. Even if he doesn't, as long as he calls Sheryl and asks her, he will know I'm telling the truth."
She knew that Sheryl would tell Charles everything, except for what had happened that day in the hospital. And that was something Leila could make use of.
Leila knew what kind of person Charles was. He would never let anyone treat his own mother like that, especially if the man who did it was also interested in Sheryl.
No matter how much Charles trusted Sheryl, after what Sheryl had done, and with all those pictures and videos online, Charles had to look before he leaped. "Really?" Melissa asked Leila in excitement.
It was Melissa's life-long dream to see Charles confront Sheryl, and Sheryl wouldn't be able to defend herself, because her affair with Lewis was true.
Melissa knew her son too well. Although Charles trusted and loved Sheryl very much, he was still a man. What kind of man could put up with his wife cheating on him?
"Aunt Melissa, I promise you that Sheryl's not getting out of this one," Leila looked at Melissa firmly.
Although Leila hadn't seen how Charles treated Sheryl, it was the first time that Leila had seen Charles that confused and upset. And judging from that face, Leila was confident that Charles wouldn't keep what he was feeling from Sheryl.
"This is the best news ever!" Melissa said. Then they started to discuss their next move.
"Leila, what if Charles believes Sheryl?" Melissa knew that if they wanted their plan to go smoothly, they needed to make sure that Charles didn't trust Sheryl anymore.
"Aunt Melissa, even if Charles doesn't tell Sheryl. We've still driven a wedge between them. Besides, Lewis is still seeing Sheryl. I'm sure that Sheryl would hide this from Charles, which would only make Charles more suspicious. As long as we add fuel to the fire, it's just a matter of time. Before we know it, they're already going to be fighting like crazy." A vicious smile appeared on Leila's face.
Melissa reminded herself not to think too much. There was no turning back now. What they could do now was to follow their plan. They would cross that bridge when they got there. Hopefully, after all of this had been said and done, they could finally kick Sheryl out of the Lu family.
Leila glanced at Melissa. She paused for a while before opening her mouth. "Aunt Melissa, I need to leave and visit Charles. You should rest first,"
Leila blushed as she spoke.
Melissa smiled at Leila and agreed.
Leila smiled shyly, stood up, and left the ward.
As she headed for Charles' room, she heard Charles talking on the phone. This piqued her curiosity, so she leaned towards the door and tried to eavesdrop on Charles' conversation.
But Charles wasn't saying anything. He was just listening, so Leila didn't replace out anything. She tried to sneak a peek through the door and realized that Charles wasn't looking good.
Leila wasn't able to figure out who it was that Charles was talking to, or what they were talking about.
"Charles, how are you doing?" After Charles had hung up, Leila pushed the door open and walked in. She put a smile on her face.
Hearing Leila, Charles lifted his head and looked at her. He furrowed his brows, not saying anything.
This made Leila feel a bit embarrassed.
"I'm going to ask Nancy to prepare some meals for Aunt Melissa. What do you want to eat, Charles? I can tell Nancy," Leila said, breaking the silence. "Whatever's fine," he answered indifferently.
Charles wasn't really talkative when he was with Leila, and this made Leila feel awkward. She needed to come up with a new subject fast.
"Okay, I should go back to the Dream Garden now." Leila looked at Charles in disappointment.
Just as Leila was about to leave the ward, Charles called her name.
"I may have agreed to let you go back to the company, but that doesn't mean that you can do whatever you want. Stop whatever nonsense you're planning. Don't think you can get away with anything just because you have some friends in high places," Charles said coldly, lowering his voice.
Charles's words sent a shiver down Leila's spine. She was frozen in place, uncertain what to do.
