The Assassin’s Billionaire Bodyguard -
Chapter 39
“You f*****g, a*****e," Isabella jumped across the room before anyone could stop her and landed a solid right hook to Evgeni's perfectly symmetrical face. "You stupid son of b***h. You left her there all alone!"
One of Mikhail's men tried to grab her, but she delivered a kick to his ribs sending him flying across the room as she lunged at Evgeni who tried to evade her punches, putting his hands up to avoid being punched in the face. Raisa's scream penetrated her ears and she paid it no mind. Cam reached her before Clara did and he pulled her flailing body backwards and looked to Gideon for help in controlling the out-of-control hellcat his girlfriend had transformed into in front of his eyes.
"Let me go," she shrieked. "I'm going to rip your balls off and shove them down your f*****g throat!" she kicked and squirmed against Cam's chest.
"Isabella!" Clara's voice was firm and controlled and while quiet delivered the same effect as a slap to her cheek.
She turned her brown eyes at her sister and sucked in a shaky breath. "Turn your phone on."
Mikhail held up his hand. "We have rules in my house Isabella."
"f**k your rules Mikhail. Turn your f*****g phone on, Clara."
Clara ignored Mikhail's protest. She spent several long seconds scrolling and then looked to Isabella seriously. "You get her out?"
"She's home safe."
"Get who out? What are you talking about?" Evgeni asked with a sneer. "I do not know what you are talking about. You are a crazy woman. You hit me!"
"I'm crazy? You took a nineteen-year-old to a f*****g bar in a shady part of the city and then left her there all alone!"
Cam's head snapped at Isabella's words. "What?" his throat felt like it was constricted.
"Portia ditched her guard and asked him to meet. She wore her sensible Ugg boots because she had to slide down the back hill of your estate to Evgeni's waiting car." She didn't tear her eyes away from Evgeni. "She's a kid Evi." "She's a woman."
"She's a kid who's so lost trying to replace out where she fits in, in a world she doesn't understand with people she barely knows, and you took advantage of her and made her feel special and then you left her all alone in a bar and some a*****e bought her a drink.." Her voice was tear-filled. "Evi, you left her alone. Why would you leave her alone?" Her chest ached with unshed tears as she considered what could have happened to Portia.
He shook his head and put his hand to his face in shock, "we fought. She called me a selfish bastard and I got mad, and I left. Clara's guys picked me up twenty minutes after. I figured she called her guard and went home."
"You left her unattended in a bar with a bunch of creepy men and no safety. None. Not one guard with her!"
Suddenly all of Mikhail's men and Gideon were holding Cam back as he lunged at Evgeni.
Isabella wiped an angry tear off her cheek. "You're such an a*****e Evi. You don't care about anyone but yourself. Your wants, your needs, your desires. It was like the night you left the girl in the alley. Those guys would have raped and killed her, and you just walked away. Isabella, it is not our problem," she mocked his accent and waved her arms with a flourish. "You take no responsibility for anything. This time though, this time, you f****d up because she's important to me."
"My girlfriend is important to you?" He asked incredulously.
"She is not your girlfriend. She will never be your girlfriend again. I will spend every minute of my life, for the rest of my days making sure she never wants to see your ugly face again." "She loves me." His protest was half-hearted at best.
"Not anymore. You put her in danger tonight Evi. You put her in danger." She shrugged as she noted Gideon still had Cam held tightly, "or maybe I'll just let Torres kill you instead." "He is not going to kill me. Why would he kill me?"
"Because" she looked to Cam, "my friend and I had to go get her from a psychopath's house. He had drugged her and tried to rape her. He passed out before he could get the job done. She managed to use her trap phone tucked in her boot to call me from the bathroom. Nobody could reach you because of Mikhail's no phone rule." She watched as Evgeni grew pale at her words. "She could be dead but, I got her out."
"She's safe Cam." She walked to him and touched his chest where it heaved up and down as he struggled against the five men holding him still. "She's home with Myriam and Mickey and she's safe. He didn't hurt her. She's got a banging headache from whatever the guy slipped her but she's okay."
Cam pointed at Mikhail, "you let him out. You let him out to go have fun with his friends and my kid got hurt in the process. This is on you."
"Cam, I promise I did not know," Mikhail held his arms up apologetically and he looked at Evgeni. "How could you? How could you do such a thing?"
"I didn't think," Evgeni held his head, "I didn't think she would," he screamed in frustration as his vocabulary eluded him. "Why does my head hurt all the time? All the time it hurts, and I cannot think!"
"You're not going to be breathing for long so don't worry about it," Cam threatened in a low measured tone uncaring of Mikhail's stunned glance in his direction. "The minute one of these guys releases their grip, you're a dead man. You don't f**k with my little girl. My little girl got drugged and almost raped because of you." His voice was deadly quiet and resonated with every single man in the room.
"I didn't know!" Evgeni screamed back. "I didn't know she was so young when I met her. She told me she just looked young, and I didn't ask her for I.D. Then after we slept together, she let it slip." He rubbed his forehead. "My head hurts." He groaned. "She always has her security detail with her. Tonight, she said they were going to meet us, so I assumed they were outside the bar."
As the two men verbally sparred, Clara reached out to Isabella, pulling her aside. "You, okay?"
"I called in a favor or two," she whispered. "I'm good. There was someone else there. He had someone he kept in another room, and we got her out too. Cleaners were there almost as soon as we were."
"Good but not what I asked. Are you okay? It's not easy getting out one of your own."
"She called me." Isabella shook her head, feeling a tear come down her face. "She called me, and I almost didn't answer because I didn't want to deal with her foolishness. Then I remembered you were here, and I thought maybe she was bored and lonely." "You need debrief." Clara spoke quickly ignoring the sudden quiet in the room as everyone openly eavesdropped and Cam was subdued.
"I know. I'm going there next. I just wanted to land one solid punch on him before I let Torres kill the bastard." She turned and looked at Evgeni. "If you ever go near anyone I love again, my mother, my father, my sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, Cam, Portia, Gideon, any of them. I will hunt you down and I will kill you and they will never replace your body. I don't care how important of a friend Mikhail is to Clara. I will not tolerate you ever scaring my family again. Am I clear?"
Mikhail spoke. "Isabella, I assure you, Evgeni will never be a problem for you or family again."
"Why don't I trust you Mikhail? You let him out tonight? You let him go."
Evgeni held his hands up. "Isabella. I'm sorry. I didn't know she was alone. I really believed she had her guard. I would not have left her alone. We went to the bar because I knew nobody would look for me there. If I'd known she had no guard, I wouldn't have left her. My head is really hurting. Why?" He made a face as if he were trying to figure out what to say and couldn't. She tilted her chin. "Your nose is bleeding."
He put his hand to his face and then pulled it away and stared at it in confusion. "You punched my cheek and my nose bleeds." Without warning he dropped to the floor in a crumpled heap.
Raisa screamed again as everyone descended on Evgeni's unconscious body.
Isabella watched with detached interest as Clara felt for a pulse and nodded, "he's breathing, and his pulse is there but it's faint. You need to get him help now. We've been asking him all night what he's on, Mikhail and he's been denying taking anything but if he's been lying, it could be a drug overdose."
"If he's taking drugs, he hasn't left our view in hours," Cam said bitterly, "unless he has it on his person and we didn't see him take it."
Clara quickly checked his pockets. "There's nothing. I don't know Mikhail. It's been a minute and he's not regaining consciousness. I'd suggest an ambulance if you think they can get here fast enough."
Mikhail ordered him put into a car to be taken to hospital. Suddenly it was just Isabella, Clara, Cam, and Gideon left in the room as everyone raced away in a panic.
"I hope he doesn't die," Isabella said suddenly. "He can't get off so easy."
Clara grabbed her arm at the macabre statement. "Isabella, debrief now before you get sidelined for months."
"Yes, boss," she looked over her shoulder at Cam who stared at them both in confusion. "Torres, go home and hug your daughter. She needs you."
"Come with me," he asked Isabella. "Please."
"I can't. I have something I have to do first." She made a face, "and the way I'm feeling, I'll be there awhile."
"You need a drive Epsilon?" Clara asked using her code name in front of Cam, leaving it open and on the floor for Isabella to do with as she needed.
"No, Alpha, I'm good. Got the bike outside. I'll go straight to headquarters and do my report."
"Do I really need to check in?" Clara looked at the missed calls from Artemis. "I don't know if I want to make the call. Could I skip it?"
"Maybe?" She made a face, "I may or may not have tried to do something on my own without my team and suddenly four-fifths of my team were there with backup and a clean-up crew. Lacey ratted me out I think."
"I like Lacey," Clara walked her to the door pretending she didn't know Cam and Gideon were listening to every single word. "Best thing we ever did was put her with you for training."
Isabella chuckled, following Clara's lead, "tell me about it. She was at my door before I even asked her. I'm starting to wonder if she sleeps."
"She's a vampire I think," Clara's husky voice was a chuckle. They exited the house. "Hackers do their best work in the dead of night."
Isabella hugged her sister, "Thanks Clara. Shall I say hey to the team for you?"
"Yeah, though I feel like I got replaced tonight."
"Nope," Isabella shook her head. "I need at least five more years. Also, Gamma and I can't be left alone without supervision yet. We had way too much fun toying with that son of a b***h before we slit his throat." She paused and put her fingers to lip in a kiss of perfection, "Beta's shot tonight though? Exquisite. Hit a cockroach from a hell of a distance." Clara laughed her head off. "I can't wait to read the report."
"I hope you read the part where I almost scaled an apartment complex out of desperation with respect and not irritation." Isabella crossed her fingers for her boss to see. At Clara's confused glance she shrugged, "I tried to do it on my own. The a*****e had five deadbolts on a steel door."
Clara gripped her hands. "Always call your team. Always. Don't ever for a minute think we don't have your back, even when we make you sit at home and wait."
"I know Alpha," she looked up suddenly at the gaping mouths of the two men standing there. "Gentleman, it was a pleasure. I'm off to get shrinked." She grabbed her helmet and put it on her head. "Since when do you drive a bike?" Cam spoke as she moved it from the kickstand into an upright position.
"He's just heard me say I had fun killing someone and his first question is how long have I rode a bike?" She looked to Clara with shake of her head, "maybe he is the perfect man. Meet you at HQ?" "Nope, I'm going to the hospital. Mikhail and Raisa will need me."
Clara walked to her car briskly and pulled her phone out of her hand. "Hey, it's Alpha One. Epsilon is on her way home, please make sure she has a warm welcome." She waved Isabella off.
As Isabella drove off into the night, Clara shook her head and shot a glance in Cam's surprised direction. "She was right Torres. Go home and hug your kid. She needs you. Isabella will call you when she's ready." She paused, "if she's ready. If you're ready even." She shook her head. "Your world is about to get blown."
She got into her car and drove away
Cam and Gideon stood outside Mikhail's mansion in confusion. "What the hell just happened?"
Gideon took a breath. "Well, Evgeni denied using drugs and then collapsed. Your daughter apparently ditched her security detail and got into trouble. Isabella Ruiz and Clara Draxton are on a special forces type team and fairly sure I heard your girl say she killed someone tonight and she didn't look green around the gills about it. Basically, the most f****d up night I've ever experienced." He made a face, "and I was with you in Ibiza so it's saying something.";/
