Chapter 21
The betrayed Luna-
It’s been two days.
Two days since Natalie was poisoned and has been unconscious. Thorne was getting out of control. He wasn’t listening to anything. His wolf was absolutely enraged, not even Nathan could calm him. He had gone insane. The prisoners were at their limits, ten had already passed out repeatedly and yet there was no stopping to their pain.
Nathan and the gamma stood in front of him, their heads lowered, waiting for him to speak.
“What do you mean?” Thorne voices out lowly, his voice gruff and heavy, laced with anger. His eyes were red and filled with grief.
The gamma swallows, glancing at the beta who shrugs. He lifts his head to look at him. “I- I don’t think any of the prisoners are guilty. They’ve been tortured endlessly for days and no one has spoken up. I’m afraid they might start to die if this continues.” He says as calmly as he could.
Thorne cocks an eyebrow up, running his fingers through his already rough hair. He slams his fist against the table, sending everything on the table flying off it. The sound reverberated through the room. Nathan’s eyes widen at the reaction.
“Who are you to conclude on that, huh? How dare you tell me they aren’t guilty?” He yells at them, his eyes stark red, filled with terror.
“I- I- never your grace. I would never.” He rushed out.
“Your grace.” Nathan pipes up after a second, hoping to soften the situation.
“Silence.” He grits out angrily. Chest heaving heavily like he’s run a thousand miles. “I want their pain tripled. You aren’t torturing them enough! I want you to make like unbearable for them. Soak their feet in boiling hot water. Drown them till then almost lose their lives. Cut their skins and whip them there till they go unconscious from the pain. If they still refuse to speak, feed them wolfsbane. I’d rather the lots of them perish.”
Nathan and the gamma stood there stunned to their core. Thorne has just ordered they kill them if they don’t confess. Killing one’s pack member because of her? Is this how insane he’s gone?
1/2
1–your grace?” He stammered.
Thorne looks at him dead in the eye, emotionless, bitter, and filled with anger. Anger he wanted to leash out on someone. The gamma shakes his head and nods.
“As you’ve ordered, your grace.” He bows and steps out of the room with Nathan beside him. They stop outside the door, he whips his head to the now–shut door, shaking his head. Something is horribly wrong with the man. This cannot be normal. He looks at Nathan who wore a look similar to his.
“Did you hear him?” He asks as they walk away from the door.
“Loud and clear. He’s not above killing every one of them if they don’t confess.” Nathan replied and the man shook his head.
“Did you see the look in his eyes?” He asks and Nathan is once again reminded of the evil that was in fact, Thorne. The same evil has now reared its head again.
“I can’t- I can’t possibly feed wolfsbane to those people. Not when they are innocent.” He stammered frustratedly, eyebrows furrowed, hands flailing aimlessly. Nathan stops walking, he looks at him, not a hint of smile on his face.
“How do you know they are innocent?” He asks. The gamma’s eyes widen, mouth open, ready to defend himself.
Nathan shakes his head. “Do as he’s said. It’s not like you have another option.” He muses
“She’s just a slave. Why should the whole kingdom suffer tirelessly for a slave? She’s been poisoned. We offer apologies, not hundreds upon hundreds of deaths to appease her wandering soul. A slave will always be a slave.” He grits out, face hard.
“Watch your mouth, Not only do the walls have ears but even the air carries whispers. You don’t ever want to get on his grace’s wrong side.”
The gamma looks at him carefully and nods, sighing. “I’ll go ahead now. It’s not like there’s anything we can do about this.” He says, nods, and walks off.
Frances stood at the balcony, staring into nothing. The cold air breezes by, and she shivered, running her hands on her arms. She sucked in a breath, thinking back to what Paula had told her.
“Try to be closer to him. He needs you more than ever and this is your chance. Natalie’s claws over him have been lifted now, this is the time for you to sink your claws in him.” She had told her. It’s been two days since their conversation and Frances has made exactly no
progress.
She might be his fiancée but that’s only words. She’s tried to talk to him, hug him, hold him, and talk to him. Each and every one has proved futile. He doesn’t want it. He’s made that clear already.
She shivered again, the air getting colder. She runs her tongue over her chapped l*ps, she should call a maid to get her hot cocoa.
“You’re shivering so much, isn’t that enough for you to step inside?” A familiar voice had her jumping out of her reverie. Frances turns towards the direction of the voice, her eyebrows cocked up immediately as she lands her eyes on the intruder. He leaned against the door frame, a smile sprawled on his l*ps, hands pocketed.
She frowns, looking away. “It’s my personal time. Can you excuse me?” She says with no comforting emotion in her voice, hoping this is enough to drive the man away. She’s mistaken though. He steps into the place, shutting the door behind him.
“Let me in too. I want to see what it’s like being in the head of the future queen of the kingdom.” He says, now standing beside her, grinning.
Frances turns sideways, tilting her head up to look at the man. “Being in my head? What for?” She asks and he shrugs, taking a cigarette out of his pocket and slots it between his l*ps. Frances’s eyes fall on the cigarette slotted between his l*ps and she scowls, remembering why she doesn’t like the said man.
“Don’t. You can do that when you aren’t beside me and I don’t have to inhale it.” She gritted out. Jeffrey smirks, taking the cigarette out of his l*ps, he puts it back into the box, looking at her. “Your future mate smokes too, you know? Do you also ask him to not smoke beside you?” He asks and this irks Frances.
“He’s not you. He’s the king of the kingdom therefore he can do whatever he pleases.” She snapped and he chuckled.
“Including f**king his maid?” He asks slowly, waiting for her reaction.
It’s instantaneous. She snaps her face towards him, eyes filled with anger immediately, jaw locked. “Are you trying to f**k with me? Thorne is a man of dignity. Don’t speak such nonsense.” She barks out, her hands clenched into a tight fist. Jeffery’s gaze drops to her clenched fist, and he smirks.
“I’ve seen the way you look at her. Your eyes are filled with jealousy when you look at her. Thorne’s eyes are filled with..” he paused, seeing her look at him intently.
“It doesn’t bother you? To see your mate stare at her like she’s his whole world. Has he ever looked at you like that? Like you were his whole world? Like he admires the crap out of you and would go above and beyond to give you everything you want?” He asks and she swallows hard.
“Stop.” She mutters
“You’re more beautiful than her, you know? He doesn’t see it, though. When she’s there, you blur out like yesterday’s news.” He stops for a bit.
“You know it though. Yet, you’re still willing to mate with him. You crave it badly. Are you addicted to him or is it your..” he trailed off.
Frances looks at him, glaring hard. “Shut the hell up. You have no idea what you’re saying. He- Thorne is a Lycan, a full–blooded wolf and an immortal one at that, it’s okay if he has needs. I’ll always want him regardless.” She gritted out.
“Even when he treats you like trash?” He asks, a smirk visible on his face.
Frances looks at him blankly. “Even when he treats me like dust.” The smirk on his face. slowly fades off with each passing second. Frances sighs, running her hand through her hair. She turns to leave.
“I know what you did, Frances. I know you had Natalie poisoned.” Jeffery says at the very last minute. Frances freezes, her throat constricted with air, and her face runs pale immediately. She turns slowly to look at him and refute it but with the look in his eyes. There was no denying it.
Thorne stood inside the room, eyes blotched red, his arms wrapped against his chest, he watched keenly as Madam Chrissy worked on Natalie. In just two days she’s gotten leaner, her cheeks hollow and face blue, l*ps chapped. It pained Thorne, his wolf unable to bear seeing his mate this way.
Madam Chrissy took out the last needle, placing it inside a bowl her assistant carried. She looked at Thorne and his heart broke a little more at the helplessness in her eyes. She stood up, hands folded. She looked at him and shook her head. “I’m afraid she’s not getting better, your grace. She’s in fact getting worse.”
