THE BILLIONAIRE IS INFATUATED WITH HIS EX-LOVER -
Chapter 33: Henry forbids Jee from seeing Leon
As expected, the news of Leon and Jee, hand in hand at the film festival, looking joyful, graced the headlines of major and minor publications by early morning. However, unlike previous occasions, her page's flood of congratulatory messages
indicated a gradual shift in public opinion toward support for this relationship.
Jee, aware that this was all a play of her own making, still felt her heart flutter uncontrollably. Leon's radiant smile and joyful demeanor stirred her, yet it wasn't enough to soothe the pain she had endured. She knew that whether she was Jee or Sara, he would plunge headfirst into the situation because he was unwilling to let go of the past without a clear explanation.
Jee mused to herself, "Leon, I will make you lose so thoroughly that you'll accept it wholeheartedly."
The director personally sent a van full of coffee to the set to celebrate and boost the morale of the entire crew. The film was poised to become a sensation across television screens. If it genuinely met these expectations, he wouldn't hesitate to send ten vans of coffee.
The director, noticing Jee's rising fame, continuously praised her. He was eager to push forward with projects involving her.
"We should capitalize on this momentum and organize press conferences to promote the film during this period for maximum effectiveness. What do you think?"
What the director suggested aligned perfectly with Jee's goals, yet she feigned concern. Whether happy or sad, she never fully showed her emotions, knowing all too well that in this world, the good people are often lacking, while the deceitful abound, and they wear thick masks, making them hard to guard against.
"I'm not sure if the audience might think we're exploiting the situation to boost our fame and develop a negative view of our film crew?"
"It's fine; the entire entertainment industry operates this way," the Director dismissed with a wave. "In this regard, you need always be careful to maintain your image and avoid being caught in any scandal."
He had worked in this field for a long time, dealt with all sorts of people, and had weathered many controversies, so Jee's concerns were hardly worth fussing over to him.
Jee nodded, secretly pleased that everything was going according to plan.
Meanwhile, the Director was in a frenzy preparing for the inspection by the company owner's son, whom he had never met. Still, he was told he would now take over the company permanently as part of his inheritance.
Walking beside the young man, the Director briefly introduced the company and its departments. However, the newcomer hardly paid attention and headed straight for the office. Employees whispered about his looks, demeanor, and attire as if he were their real-life idol.
No sooner had he sat down than he pointed assertively at a newspaper and declared.
"Call her to me now."
"She is currently..."
"Did you not hear me? From now on, I am the Director here, and you are the assistant, so you will follow my orders."
The former Director turned pale, stammering incoherently.
"Ye... yes... sir."
Jee was planning her afternoon shooting schedule and evening appearance on a talk show. She took the opportunity during a break to review the list of questions the host had asked her to prepare answers for. Shows like these shared exciting stories and were meant for entertainment, attracting a large audience.
Each answer needed to be excellent and humorous to engage viewers. Although her assistant would prepare the answers, Jee wanted to experience it firsthand and share her personal views on the issues discussed in the program. She aimed for her presence to bring warmth and authenticity to her fans and the audience.
Although her airtime was short, Jee always invested as much as possible into each show. She believed that if she was going to do something, she must do it wholeheartedly.
Lost in her work, Jee forgot about her ringing phone until she finally answered it.
"Director, I'm swamped and can't return immediately. Can we talk about this tomorrow?"
"Don't call me Director anymore; we have a new one. If you are not here within thirty minutes, forget about continuing as an actress."
The call ended abruptly, and with no one answering her return calls, Jee had no choice but to head to the company. The Director was displeased, but as she was the film's lead, he reluctantly let her go.
Arriving at the grand lobby, she saw the former Director anxiously waiting. Jee approached, thinking, "What now?"
"The Director wants to see you immediately; he's waiting in his office. He looks quite upset. You need to be careful and try to appease him."
Jee glanced at the man before her, not fully grasping the situation, but decided to meet him and replace out.
She gently knocked on the door, and a deep, warm male voice called out from within.
"Come in."
Entering, Jee was stunned to see a familiar face, someone who nearly became her lawful husband over a year ago.
Henry stood up, unable to contain himself, and rushed to embrace her.
"Sara, there you are. I've searched everywhere for you, never realizing you were right under my nose. If only I had known earlier..."
Jee skillfully pushed his arms away, slowly explaining.
"You have mistaken me for someone else; I am Jee." She extended her hand, "Hello, Director, it's nice to meet you." "No,..."
"I'll repeat it: I am Jee. I don't know anyone named Sara, and I don't appreciate being mistaken for someone else."
Henry recognized his embarrassment, turned away to compose himself, and then spoke.
"I apologize for making you uncomfortable. From now on, I will manage this company as the director, and Mr. Smith, the former director, will be my assistant. If you feel uncomfortable discussing anything with me, you can speak to him, given that you have worked together for a long time."
The room fell silent as Henry scrutinized Jee with a probing gaze, genuinely unable to believe that there could be someone who looked so strikingly similar to another yet not be related by blood.
Jee, feeling anxious about facing further questioning from her new boss, looked for an excuse to leave.
"Director, I have a filming schedule today, so I must return to the set now. Unless you have any more questions, I'll take your leave."
As Jee turned to leave, Henry asked.
"Is your relationship with Leon real or just a rumor?"
Jee knew Henry would eventually raise this issue, as it had always been of utmost concern to him.
"I believe I have already clarified that quite explicitly. If you follow the media, you would understand."
"In this industry, truth and falsehood are intertwined. Who should I believe: him, public opinion, or you?"
Jee knew no further explanation could clarify her unachieved motives; she had to keep them hidden. The best strategy was to remain ambiguous, keeping others half-convinced and half-doubting, which made it easier to deceive. As soon as Jee left, Henry instructed Mr. Smith into the room.
"Bring me all the files on Jee's background and closely monitor her interactions with Leon. If any oversight causes trouble for the company, I won't forgive you."
